What Is Metaphysics?
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy exploring the fundamental nature of reality. The word Metaphysics comes from Greece, where it is a combination of two words: Meta, which means over and beyond, and physics is physics. Thus, the combination means over and beyond physics. Metaphysics is referred to as a branch of philosophy that deals with first cause and the nature of being. It is taught as a branch of philosophy in most academic universities under the subject of “Speculative Philosophy.

Aloha,
I'm Reverend Dr.
Cindy Palus and I'm a metaphysical minister and I thought it might be good to talk about metaphysics.
I have been studying metaphysics since I've been about 13 years old and I have now met many people who are metaphysical ministers or also who may have a doctorate in metaphysics through the University of Metaphysics.
But it's a very deep subject and sometimes there's not a great understanding of what a metaphysician is.
The basic word metaphysics comes from Greece.
It's a combination of two words,
Meta meaning over and beyond physics,
Physics being the second word.
So the combination means over and beyond physics.
But if I may,
I'm going to go into a little talking here before we do a meditation on how far back this really goes.
We're talking about 600 BC,
I mean way before Buddha and Christ there were people who studied metaphysics but it wasn't even called metaphysics there.
We could go back to metaphysics at the time of Para Mendes,
Who's known to be the father of metaphysics and he sought to distinguish opinion or belief separate from knowledge.
In other words,
We have what we see and know and then there's what we sense and what we believe and the two are separate and we can be limited by what we just see and what we just know.
And Para Mendes was believing in the multiplicity of existing things and that they change form and motion and that they are but an appearance of a single,
A single eternal reality.
And then there was Anna Meckxmender who was born in 610 BC and that was in the area that's now Turkey and he was a Greek philosopher who was an astronomer and he was the first to develop a cosmology or systematic philosophy view of the world.
And then Plato,
150 years after him,
Believed in the same thing and sought to distinguish opinion or belief from knowledge.
And it went on from there,
If we think about it,
Buddha was seeking an answer to suffering.
He had everything he need.
He needed as a young man but he went out into the world and realized that there was suffering in the world and wanted an answer to what was the real reason for that suffering.
And he sought for a long time before he just sat in meditation under the Bodhi tree and achieved enlightenment.
And then he had his teachings that continued on till this day and then there was Christ.
And Christ was a great teacher and he was saying in essence that the answers are there within you and came from the One,
The Father within him.
And he said,
I tell you the truth,
Anyone who believes in me,
Me being that Christ consciousness,
Will do the same works I have done and even greater works.
And then his disciples,
Including Saul on the road to Damascus,
Achieved enlightenment and totally changed his path of being angry and persecuting Jesus and instead became one who went out to teach as Jesus taught.
And now the phrase the road to Damascus is an English idiom meaning that an important point in a person's life where a great change of ideas or beliefs take place.
And many,
Many teachers after that,
In fact many have achieved cosmic consciousness and Richard Buck's great book,
He goes into how some of our great philosophers and teachers have experienced this light that is life changing.
Alan Watts in the last century was a great teacher who was a metaphysician and he believed that we are all part of the universal self,
That there is no such thing as stuff and that we are all part of one continuous process.
So we look at what is real.
What is real?
Do we really know what is real as we continue to study and learn what is real and what is scientific is changing and has changed so much in the last hundreds of years?
When Galileo was believing what he's believing and studying,
It was not believed that he was correct and he had to pay with his life.
Shakespeare was an enlightened writer who in this beautiful play Hamlet suggests that human knowledge is limited and he said there are more things in heaven and earth Horatio than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
So even though it's constantly changing,
There are many including myself who have tried to find answers and the answers aren't in these definitions and they are only hints.
All of these teachings and words are hints.
What we can find in the mystical approach of metaphysics is a pathway to go within.
To go within and find as Christ and Buddha and all of these great teachers and philosophers found who we really are.
What is life?
What is enlightenment?
What is the bigger picture?
Can we merge with that light?
Can we merge with God as Christ did?
Can we be aware of the mysteries of spirit and how spirit teaches us and reaches us?
Can we find that subtle energy within?
And through meditation for decades and centuries there have been those that have found that path in meditation going within.
And they have found as John Lennon did in a beautiful quote he said that all the great teachers and Christ and Buddha and Krishna all were saying the same thing but there's been some bad translations.
So we can find that we are more than the box of definitions.
We are more than the limitations of some religions.
We are more than a definition.
We are beyond what words can find.
We are the living breathing energy of God that lives inside our heart and mind.
And there are so many descriptions and so many words that try to express that that thing called God and the love that directs our life.
And even through all of the millions of words we still can't explain this miracle of creation.
So let's go into a meditation.
Let's take some deep breaths and as a teacher of mine Roshi,
Guo,
Bill Guo Roshi said this,
Breath sweeps mind.
And all teachers have found the power of breath does reflect our state of mind.
And let's sweep our mind with some deep deep breaths breathing in and breathing out and breathing in and breathing out.
I had a wonderful teacher Dr.
Paul Leon Masters who taught me how to meditate at the age of 14 and I've been meditating every day since.
And it's been a lifetime and I have to say at some point I did finally find a way to merge with that energy of God.
And all of those words then make sense but you see it in a different perspective.
So let's go to that energy.
Let's go to the energy of our soul and spirit.
Breathing in spirit,
Breathing out anything that may be distracting our mind from becoming one with our soul.
Calling upon that light of our soul that's always present just waiting for us to listen.
Listen,
Listen,
Listen to your soul.
Be aware of that shift in energy.
Be aware of your consciousness expanding with light.
Be not afraid but feel that love that is present in the energy of God.
God is present here now right here.
Embrace that energy and that presence and become one with this amazing energy beyond description,
Beyond the physical.
Breathe in that energy and become one with the source of that energy.
Be open to becoming united with all,
With the oneness of the entire universe.
It is possible to be one with God.
Breathe that energy of God within and open the door,
Open the door to perceptions,
Open the door to the infinite energy,
The timelessness of God,
The invisible present here in the visible and merge with that energy going deeper and deeper and deeper within and feel that energy within you change and shift and finding a home there right within your soul,
Right there within your heart.
Open your heart and open the doorway to your heart and go there within to the heart of your heart,
The infinite love that is present here right now within you,
Within me,
Merged as one.
Experience it.
Feel it.
Believe that this is who you really are.
Allow it to speak to you.
Allow it to teach you.
Allow it to merge with all of you so you can be transformed by this holy light and love.
Allow it to give you your true purpose that has been searched for by so many for so long.
Be under that Bodhi tree right now having sat all night waiting for the answer and at dawn seeing that morning star and that star bringing you the truth of truths,
The enlightenment.
You can be enlightened right now.
Believe it.
Breathe it in.
Accept it.
Right here,
Right now,
You are part of God.
You are co-creator.
You are beyond just your name and this body.
You are timeless.
You are infinite.
You are the energy that has lived forever and was experienced by Buddha,
Was experienced by Christ,
Was experienced by Krishna and Mohammed.
Ask yourself,
How is God experiencing life through you?
How is that pure energy of being expressed in your life in what you do and say?
Are you celebrating your life with this living light and love?
Are you accepting that miracle of being alive?
Can you experience life and the beauty of life?
Are you grateful for each and every day?
There is a miracle happening right now in every breath you breathe.
Breathe in and merge with this miracle of life,
This pure energy and realize you have the power to love others as God loves you.
You are made from that one love of God and wish every breath accept and awaken to who you are and that presence of God and allow it to be fully with you every day in an affirmation of spirit manifested here in form and realize it's not just finding this miracle but it's how you put it to work in your everyday life.
Every meditation,
Every awakening should make your life a better life,
Should help you to share more love,
More kindness,
More understanding.
Breathe this in and slowly now we'll come out of meditation and accept that this life shines forth through you as you accept and allow it to shine forth through you.
That meditation is the key but living your life with living love and light and kindness is the answer.
And that's a little bit about what metaphysics is about and this is what I practice and I'm very happy to share it with you and I'm very grateful for having been able to find this path in my life.
God bless you and your understanding now and always.
Thank you.
