The Practice of Detachment is so important right now. Life is changing rapidly, and many old things are slipping away. It helps to find a way to let go of what is past. Many religions and practices include understanding detachment. I do a deep meditation on detachment and the Objective Observer.

Aloha,

I'm Reverend Cindy Palos and I thought I'd talk and do a meditation today on a very important subject which I'm experiencing and I think many people are at this time.

It has to do with the word detachment.

At first we might think the word detachment is a spiritual word that ties in with Buddhism and it certainly does but it ties in with many religions as well and for good reason.

I think at this particular time and space in our lives a lot of us are having to detach and let go of the old ways.

In fact the new term that's coming up so often is the new normal and the new normal is not necessarily having a way of life we had before which is a hard thing to quite grasp and it was seeming like well in a month it'll get better from COVID-19 or maybe two months or we're just gonna all disappear and go away and I think we've come to the terms with the fact that now there are gonna be some major changes in all of our lives.

Some more for some people than others,

Some who have lost their work and some who have lost their businesses are definitely going to be needing to let go and detach more than others.

I just had my sister Pam pass away last week and I couldn't help but do a lot of meditation and reflection on the fact that when you die you have to let it all go.

That there's nothing that you can take with you and the more prepared you are to release and let go the easier that detachment is of course.

So detachment is an important part of any spiritual practice and an important part of life in general and as I said now more than ever with COVID-19 we are having to learn to let go.

If you go look at the word detachment in the dictionary or definitions it's also expressed as non-attachment,

A state which a person overcomes their attachment to desire for things,

People or concepts of the world and thus attains a higher perspective.

It's considered to be a wise virtue and promoted in Eastern religions and Taoism and Buddhism and Jainism but also you know what it's also a practice and a part of Christianity as well.

I was lucky enough to be able to know Ram Dass when he was alive and when he moved here to Maui.

Of course Ram Dass loves stories about monkeys right and he was talking once about an anecdote about the way you catch a monkey in India.

You drop a handful of nuts into a jar with a small opening and then the monkey puts his hand into the jar and grabs the nuts and then he finds he can't get his fist out through the opening of the jar but the monkey won't let go.

The monkey holds onto those nuts and holds them tight and he can't get his hand out and often they just have that jar attached with the string and that's how they catch monkeys.

So letting go is a very,

Very deep practice and it doesn't mean to completely just let your life go.

It doesn't mean to necessarily go away and give up everything and go into a retreat or a cave and I see people that try to run away from their lives by coming to live on Maui.

Whatever you have as your issues often will follow you.

They will follow you here to Maui,

They'll follow you into that cave and in fact I believe you can learn so much more if we put our spiritual practices to work right there within our everyday lives.

We are here for a situation to learn from and if we can learn to be objective and aware in our everyday lives and not get too attached so that it devastates us when we find we have to let go of something we will be in a much higher state of awareness and grace.

The Bhagavad Gita talked a lot about the practice of detachment.

Krishna tells Arjuna that acting with detachment means doing the right thing for its own sake because it needs to be done without worrying about success or failure.

Now that's a wonderful practice of awareness and doing things also that way is doing it in the moment and when you're in the now and when you're in this very moment it's easier to not be attached.

A lot of what we may have liked in the past may not be happening as much.

If you liked going out to movies,

If you liked taking trips as I love to do,

If you liked doing many things you might not be able to do them now in this particular time and space.

But we can certainly find ways to be aware and find ways to be kind and compassionate and loving and to take walks and to be able to do things online and to learn in ways now and that isn't going to be stopped.

It's very,

Very,

Very possible to still do and to really enjoy.

And in Christianity we look at the life of Christ and indeed he did ask his disciples to give up their life but he also didn't want people to not have the abundance,

Abundance of goodness,

The abundance of love but also free from the burdens of attachment so you can be happy and enjoy life.

In the Bible it says that Christ said,

I came so that they may have life and have it abundantly.

So what is that abundance for you?

What is that chance to experience still love,

Still enjoy being and not be attached?

This is a very difficult practice and you'll find that even though you can do it once you might have to learn to do it again and again.

Spiritual detachment is something that you can really truly practice in this day and age more than ever before.

And so we're having that opportunity and part of it is to let go and to let God and to let go of our ego and to also not be attached to having it our way or our will.

And this has been so hard for people.

You've been seeing what's been coming up from the frustration and anger of this.

But really if you're open to surrendering your will to whatever is present and over to God's will you can find that you are okay and it's a very deep good practice.

It's a practice that takes constant practice.

As we kind of surrender daily our control over to God we release a lot of anxiety and stress and fear.

We just kind of come home to our true self,

Our soul,

And to that place inside our heart where we know we have right there inside us all we need in this very present now moment.

And that's a good thing.

That's a good place.

That's a very special place that carries with you that energy now and forever even when we do drop our bodies and move on.

So let's just take a few moments to take some deep breaths and let's breathe in some clarity.

Breathing deeply in for a few seconds,

Breathing in for three seconds,

Holding your breath for four seconds,

And breathing slowly out,

Slowly letting go for six seconds.

Breathing in that light,

Holding your breath for four seconds,

And breathing slowly out for seven seconds.

Knowing that breath sweeps mind.

And when we're sweeping our mind we are clearing our mind and we are letting go.

So let's just breathe here,

Aware of our breath,

Counting our breath in and holding our breath and breathing slowly out.

And as we breathe out,

Becoming aware of your breath and how your mind is becoming clear.

Breathing in that light with each breath,

Holding and breathing out.

And now slowly find how you feel in this moment.

How aware of you,

Or of your body and your mind.

How do you feel right now?

Breathe in and hold your breath and breathe out.

Let that light fill your mind.

Does your mind feel full of light right now?

Breathe light into your whole consciousness right now.

Let any tension go in your face,

In your jaw,

In your ears,

Your nose,

Your eyes.

Let your face feel that light of love and clarity.

And let any tension go in your neck and your shoulders.

Just completely release any tension there.

Breathing in and as you breathe out,

Let that energy in your shoulders be free of any stress.

Breathing in deeply into your torso,

Into your heart.

And let your heart speak to you.

Let your heart express to you what your heart would say.

Any message your heart would feel and know.

Let it come to you now.

Feel free to listen to your heart of hearts.

Breathing in,

Embracing your heart with love.

And letting that light of love clear any tension and pain and scars in your heart.

Let it go and let it go and let it go.

Bringing more love,

Unconditional love,

From the source of all love into your heart of hearts.

And breathing in again,

Let your light and love merge with God's light and love and let it come into your liver and your kidneys and your stomach and your organs and your pancreas and your spleen.

Breathe in that light there right now.

Feel it feeling good.

Bless it.

Receive the blessings there.

Breathing in and breathing out and going deeper and deeper and deeper now into your second chakra and into your pelvis area there.

Seeing a beautiful releasing of any tension,

Any fear,

Any hidden emotions.

Accept them.

Let them go.

Let them be released.

Anything from the past you need to let go,

Just forgive it and release it.

Let it go,

Let it go,

Let it go.

And now moving down to the base of your spine and your root chakra.

Sometimes hidden fears,

Hidden problems with sexuality,

Hidden past energies need to be released.

Send that area a beautiful ruby red light and see a beautiful red ruby flower blossoming there.

And now release any tension there and let your legs be filled with light,

Your calves,

Your feet,

All of your body surrounded in a beautiful clear light.

Your entire energy field full of light and love.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

And now let's move further and allow your souls present to come into your body.

Welcome your soul.

Be still and know that you are in that place,

That energy field that is eternal in your soul.

And now embrace the objective observer there that is always present,

Your higher mind,

The overseer.

And be comfortable in that objective observer.

And ask your objective observer to see anything you may be attached to that you need to let go of that may be causing you pain,

Frustration,

Tension.

And see what's there that is so much more beautiful that can replace anything that you're holding on to causing you trouble and pain from the past.

Let go and let God be in control.

Just let go.

Breathing in,

Embracing that objective observer and thanking your soul,

Thanking God,

Thanking that energy of light and love that you are that lives on always eternally.

And now align yourself with your objective observer,

With the highest light and with the love there within you and feel that peace that comes when you're in tune with your soul.

Breathing in,

Breathing in,

Breathing in and now breathing out.

And slowly,

Slowly,

Slowly come back into an aligned body,

Mind and soul.

Everything feeling good right now.

Feel the good alive in you.

Feel renewed and restored and revitalized.

Breathing that energy and just say,

Thank you God and so it is.

And I thank you so much for being present and allowing yourself to make friends with your objective observer and being present with your soul and realizing what you need to let go.

God bless you.

God bless you always and thank you so much for being there.
