Conversation On Consciousness
This is a Conversation for Consciousness with Jennifer K Hill and myself. We talk about my background, communication, peace, enlightenment, and how to live with what we learn. Very insightful conversation.
Transcript
And I'm so happy to have you here with us today for another conversation,
Not about consciousness,
However,
For consciousness.
How can we have more conversations for consciousness in the world?
And today I'm delighted to have with me a new friend,
Reverend Cindy Paltrow.
She's a member of the American Heart Association and she's a member of the American Heart Association and she's a member of the American Heart Association and we're so excited to be having a new friend,
Reverend Cindy Paulos joining us here from Hawaii.
She is an inspirational speaker,
Author,
Lyricist,
Composer,
Producer,
Artist,
And long-time announcer and co-founder of KAOI Radio in Maui and KUOS.
If I recall,
I think Cindy actually started her career in Los Angeles many years ago and was actually a DJ.
I think it was.
When it was actually two stations,
It was called the Rocks of LA and I was an AM FM and I was one of the first rock and roll DJs back then and I liked rock and roll back then because we were free to do anything we wanted.
There was no limitations and we could play anything we wanted,
Say anything we wanted,
Those days are kind of gone,
But it was great.
It was great.
That's amazing.
Yeah,
It's just so extraordinary how things have grown.
I remember the first conversation you and I had about your career and how it started so many years ago and that you've been doing this,
You've been writing music.
And in fact,
One thing that I do want to mention to our viewers that's pretty incredible is that you're currently being honored,
So I'm going to read this off,
By the UNESCO Center for Peace 2020 Cross-Cultural and Peace Crafter Award Laureates for your work as a music producer,
Author,
And poet.
Is that right?
You get it right.
Yes,
They're a division of the UN and actually this morning,
It's two days of celebration.
And this morning,
I got up at two o'clock my time to join them by three.
And it's so miraculous when you tie them with the rest of the world and see all these beautiful souls and young people,
Old people,
People from all countries working to raise the consciousness of the world for peace.
It's a very powerful force.
Yeah,
I thought that might be a fun way to kind of dive into today's topic of conversations for consciousness.
First,
It might be interesting for our listeners and viewers to understand what your perspective on consciousness is.
What does consciousness mean to you?
One thing to remember is there's many levels and frequencies of consciousness.
Consciousness can be anything from our subconsciousness to our collective conscious to our collective unconsciousness to the Christ consciousness or Buddhic field or cosmic consciousness.
So if we look at all of these levels of consciousness at work,
There's so many dimensions of consciousness.
And we,
Through our soul,
Pick the level we're working at right now here,
You and I.
And to me,
Conversations,
Which is so beautiful,
I love conversations,
Is a communion.
It's a way of sharing our consciousness right now.
So we're choosing,
In this conversation,
To commune about the highest consciousness and how that comes through our soul to our consciousness right now.
It's an amazing thing.
Radio works with radio towers,
And it works with radio waves,
And it works with frequencies.
And we are also like towers,
Radio towers and frequencies.
What you're doing sitting there in your space is sending out this vibration that holds a lot of love and light.
And what I'm doing right now is sharing my energy with you of what I'm experiencing in this amazing reception and transmission of energy together.
It's,
To me,
It's fascinating.
It's just,
To me,
I can't stop getting enough of my whole life I've been fascinated with consciousness.
Yeah,
I think that consciousness,
One of my friends,
Theresa Collins,
Who's the founder or one of the members of the Global Coherence Pulse,
She taught me about the coherence in the field.
And she always says,
What are we pulsing into the field?
And to your point about us all being radio towers,
Whether or not we realize it,
We are actively participating in the environments around us for better or for worse.
And I remember many years ago,
As I was going on my spiritual path,
I had some dark days,
Dark nights of the soul for those of you out there who might be familiar with that terminology.
And if I didn't get my way,
Let's just say I didn't handle it as gracefully sometimes as I could have.
And I'll never forget,
I was in a class with an incredible leader,
Alison Armstrong.
I love her work.
I've been studying with her on and off for about 10 years.
And she said it was class number two.
And she said,
You're not allowed to take notes on your phone.
She said,
You can take handwritten notes,
But you can't take notes on your phone.
Well,
My 20-something-year-old self is indignant.
And I can't read my own handwriting.
You can't tell me what to do.
I'm going to take notes on my phone anyways.
And so then one of her assistants comes up and says,
No,
You can't do that.
So what do I do?
I sit there in the class.
And I'm very early on in my spiritual growth.
And I kid you not,
Cindy,
I am glaring at her.
And I'm sitting there.
Now,
There's,
Mind you,
A group of 300 people in the audience.
And I am sitting there.
And I'm just glaring.
And I'm having nothing to do with it.
And I'm just making sure the whole world knows I'm pouting.
I'm there with my best friend.
So fast forward to the lunch break.
At the end of the lunch break,
They give you a little name tag.
They hand me the name tag.
And they're like,
There's a note there for you.
You need to read it before you resume class.
And the note was from Alison.
And it said,
If you keep glaring at myself or my colleague,
You will be kicked out of this class and never welcome back in another one of our programs again.
And here I thought to myself,
I was just absorbed in my own self-loathing world of,
Oh,
This isn't fair,
And didn't realize the cost and impact that my sending negative energy and vibes to the teacher in the room and her co-facilitator was actually having a cost and impact,
Not only on myself,
Which was boomeranging back all this negativity,
But to everybody else,
Including the facilitators of the program.
And that was one of the most humbling moments where it's like,
You don't realize that when you walk into a room,
You're bringing energy with you.
You might be bringing the energy of the day.
You might be bringing a fight.
So true.
In Hawaii,
We call what you were doing stink eye.
There's a different part.
It's called giving stink eye.
And it's been always used here.
But you know what?
People have gotten in major fights if you give someone stink eye the wrong way.
It's considered so un-hono,
Not right,
That if you give stink eye,
People get really upset.
But in regards to when you walk into a room,
Have you ever walked into a room that was like a restaurant?
Everyone's eating.
They're all doing their thing.
They all turn around and look at you when you walk in that room.
They sense your energy.
I bet they do,
Because you're a very powerful person.
I bet even though they're busy talking,
They don't.
Don't they do that to you?
They just notice your energy and look at you?
You know what's funny?
It's my significant other says that people do.
And I just don't pay attention.
I just send love.
That's one of the things now since that experience,
I've now completely shifted.
And so when I walk into a restaurant,
I'm literally sending love out from my heart.
I'm like,
I love you.
They do that.
They look at you,
Because even though they're busy,
They sense your energy when you come into the room.
And that energy field is so full of that vibration and frequency that you are.
And now let's take that same thought.
When you go into meditation,
And you go out,
And you include in your meditation the entire world,
Like we did on one of the other talks we did,
When you actually send that energy out,
What an amazing thing we're doing.
And when I use Insight Timer,
When I look at millions of people meditating at the same time,
This is the vibration that's changing the consciousness of the world to make it more aware.
But the thing that's interesting,
Jennifer,
With all of this more light and love that we're bringing in,
It's putting a spotlight on the shadows and the darkness as well.
Now,
We're yin and yang.
We know we're dark and light,
Right?
So as we shine out more light,
The people in the darkness are being shown more.
So we're seeing some of the things we never would have seen before,
Because the light is showing the shadows and revealing things that were unrevealed before.
So now we have a responsibility that we might not have ever realized.
It's like,
OK,
We're shining light on you.
And what if the people are all of a sudden exposed to things they weren't aware of?
So there's a huge responsibility in this being a light-bringer,
A consciousness-raiser,
Because some people are fighting that old self that's diminishing and going away and leaving this newer,
Higher dimension that's coming into being.
So we have at this time a very unique time,
As we have this higher consciousness really coming in from a higher plane,
Merging with ourselves right now.
But then there's people going,
I don't want this change.
I want to just stay the way I was.
It's like,
You know?
And so we've got to really be understanding and compassionate with this new thing of the light and the dark and what's happening with the people now having to accept that things are changing.
We're getting more of a higher frequency and vibration coming to the world right now.
There's no denying it.
It's happening.
And I don't know why.
For one moment,
I think we just lost your video.
We can still hear you perfectly,
Which is great.
Oh,
You know what?
I think I just have a little,
What happened to my video there,
Start video?
It just kind of jumped out.
It just pops on and off.
Sometimes when you generate so much light,
You just kind of burst out.
It jumped right out there.
It was perfect,
Though.
I've had one of my dear friends,
Shannon Leishner,
Who's joined me here before.
And she was one of the first light workers I ever started working with 15 years ago.
I'll be darned if we can ever get video to record with her,
Because she's just constantly pulsing energy.
It's almost interfering with whatever the signal is.
So I do want to touch for a moment,
Cindy,
On what you just said,
Which was so beautiful,
Is the idea with the light shining so brightly from so many,
The shadows are being revealed.
Although what occurred to me and what you just shared is that when the shadow is being revealed,
The shadows are being revealed of the planet of each and every one of us and ourselves.
And I honestly truly believe that peace happens when we accept and love the shadow of ourselves,
Because we can point all we want.
Oh,
You have a shadow.
Oh,
You're giving stink eye over there.
You're doing this wrong.
You could be doing better at that.
But the moment that we realize we're human beings,
And by being human beings,
No matter how brightly we shine,
We're still always going to have our own shadow.
And lovingly kind of embracing that shadow side of ourselves allows us then to have a greater capacity for love and compassion for ourselves and everybody else around us.
But until we can first turn that light towards ourselves and towards our own shadow that's right here behind us,
We're never going to be able to expand to the peace of the world,
Because it's an internal job.
This is so very true.
Thank you for that beautiful statement.
We all know,
And everyone says,
Peace starts with you.
This morning on the peace ceremony,
They sang,
Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
It's a beautiful song,
Simple,
But so true.
But yes,
You just did some silence.
I mean,
I've done zen retreats and a couple of days of silence,
A bell ringing,
Otherwise silence.
And it's amazing what comes up when you just sit in quiet stillness for a day or two.
And what comes up is that you start to see that shadow's up,
That part of yourself that you've been working hard to bury.
It's very hard to keep it down or out of your attention when you are quiet and still in a meditative state.
And we have to always accept that part of ourselves needs to have that light addressed back inside ourselves to work daily with what we need to work on.
And when we bury it,
And these days with that light shining brightly,
Someone will come and help us by pushing that button and just letting that side of you that was buried come out,
Because this is a time when all is being revealed,
Good and bad.
And we do all have that shadow self.
I mean,
I know for me,
I need to clear up my clutter.
I'm one of those people that has clutter in my life.
I found a woman who I love,
Diane Warren,
Who's a wonderful lyricist,
And they showed her desk.
There was a little video about her story.
She writes for Aerosmith and all these great people,
Lots of hits.
And they showed her desk,
And it was all full of clutter.
I said,
Oh,
It's OK.
See,
She's got clutter.
I can have clutter too.
And it's like,
No.
OK,
My inner voice,
My soul is saying,
I think it's time to clear up your clutter a little bit,
Right?
Or there's always something.
Everyone has things that they can work on.
And it's so funny,
Because you wrote,
I was looking up your bio because we were doing an interview.
You have a book that has almost exactly the same title as mine.
I've been working on talks on Insight Timer.
So I decided to put them all into text.
And I have now 300 pages.
It's called Spiritual Tools for Better Living.
And you wrote also a book.
What was the title of your book?
101 Spiritual Tools for Uncertain Times.
So what I did on this book is I go down that list of things when you can get as high as you want.
I had an enlightenment experience at the age of 15.
And it was so full of love and light and bliss.
It was truly tying into that cosmic consciousness.
And I really didn't want to leave there.
And then I got addicted to that bliss when I came back.
I was always trying to feel that unlimited,
Unconditional love and that brilliant light.
And at one point,
I went,
OK,
No.
I came here because I need to do my work here.
And that means I've got to put to work what I get when I get to this higher stage of consciousness.
I have to put it into action because it's wonderful to be blissed out.
But unless we can walk our talk and really share all those tools that we were given,
And it's a daily practice,
Then it doesn't mean anything.
We're here on Earth to really put into action what we get inside in meditation.
And that will be,
Like you say,
Shining the light on ourself to bring ourself to that point.
Because once we are in that light and in that state of peace,
We were talking about those vibrations and those frequencies.
Once we're there,
You know what?
We wouldn't even have to talk.
We could both be.
You could be there,
And I could be here.
And we could be in silence just sharing our light and love on the frequencies,
And people would feel what we're saying.
I completely agree.
You remind me of a story.
I met a gentleman one time who is called Babaji.
And he is a Babaji from India.
And he was much like the Dalai Lama.
It was chosen from a very young age that he would be the next Babaji.
As soon as the next Babaji,
It looked like he was going to be dying.
Then this man,
Babaji,
Who I met,
Was sent into a cave.
I think it was at the age of 13 years old to go live in a cave naked,
Fend for himself,
Until the next Babaji died.
And I think,
If I remember the story correctly,
He said it took about five or six years for that Babaji who is currently alive to die while he lived in a cave.
And I meet him at this fabulous party in San Tropez,
Right?
And we're talking,
And he's smoking a cigarette and having a glass of champagne.
And in my mind,
I'm going like,
Wait a second.
You're enlightened.
You have people who see you as their guru,
And you're smoking a cigarette and drinking champagne.
And he said,
You know,
It's funny,
People have these judgments about what you think it is to be enlightened.
But truly,
To reach that pinnacle,
That level of bliss,
Or whatever you want to say,
To bring that level that we get to in that silence or that meditative state out into the world,
What he shared with me,
Cindy,
And what I found to be true,
Is it's a state of non-reactivity.
We all bump around just kind of reacting to people,
Circumstances,
Life,
Whatever it is.
And it's in the reactivity that our shadows emerge,
And the anger,
And the bitterness,
And all of that kind of becomes made manifest in the world.
And whether you're sitting and smoking and drinking,
Or whether you're in a cave in India,
It doesn't matter.
The question is,
How are you going to handle it when something activates you?
And that's where I found it kind of inspiring that you don't have to be a perfect person who lives a perfect life,
Whatever perfect even means.
It's about just doing your best each and every day to not get upset and make things mean something,
And to not react to circumstances or people.
And that's where peace becomes revealed in the world.
And that's how you really know that you've reached that level,
Where things no longer affect you in a negative way.
And that's a very,
Very,
Very important tool.
That's a key tool to not react,
But to be in your core and to be so soul-centered.
To me,
That's the term Christ consciousness.
And I don't want people to think I'm just talking about Jesus.
Christ consciousness is a light consciousness,
Right?
It's like enlightenment.
It's also very similar to Buddhic consciousness.
What was so wonderful about the masters who achieved that is they would not lose it.
They were able to hold that consciousness in everyday living.
It's one thing to experience,
And it's wonderful,
But to hold it and to live it and to be it and to walk your talk with it,
That's the real testing ground for any master,
For anyone to be able to come here and do that.
And that's why I love it so much.
It never gets old for me.
I started this when I was 13 years old.
And I've been working a lifetime on just one principle,
Harmlessness.
I mean,
That's harmlessness in your thinking.
That means no judgments.
It's harmlessness in the way you live,
Not saying anything.
I mean,
I've been working on that my entire life,
And I'm still working on it.
So you give me a challenge like that.
It's like,
Wow,
That makes life interesting,
Doesn't it,
When you really try to live it.
It really does.
You're so right,
And I love it.
I was trying to remember who was talking to me recently about harmlessness.
And I think it did come up in the meditation that you had facilitated for the Coalition for Global Unity here.
And harmlessness,
What a fascinating concept.
What I love in the times where I do spend time in silence,
Part of the reason when I do 24 hours in silence for however long it might be,
Is it's easier to be a good person when you're being silent.
If I'm totally honest,
I did it part of this weekend of Rosh Hashanah because one of the goals is to keep your thoughts positive,
Keep your words positive,
Not think or speak ill of anybody.
And it's easier said than done.
You know,
You walk out,
It's a 90 degree day.
You're wearing a mask,
And it's easy to fall right into,
Wow,
It's hot.
Oh,
This is too much.
And you get into speaking.
But when you're in silence,
There's almost this reverence.
So it's bringing that level of reverence out to everything that you do,
Causing no harm,
Not only to the rest of the world,
But like you said to yourself,
How can I not cause pain,
Not only to the world,
But first and foremost,
Not cause pain to myself through my words,
Thoughts,
And actions.
And that self-love is something that at some point you get past your ego.
At some point,
You start to recognize,
OK,
That's my ego.
That's a little change.
That's the ego.
It's like,
OK,
You let the ego do its little thing.
It runs itself out just like the mind chatter when you go into meditation.
There will be that.
And you learn,
Like one of my tools in the book is breathing.
You learn that you sit with it,
You breathe with it.
And that will,
When you just sit there with it,
All that ego stuff and all that stuff does pass.
But when you're in the world and reacting and it comes up,
To be able to master that,
Wow,
To be able to not react with the ego when someone pushes your buttons.
We have a wonderful term that we try to live here,
And that's aloha.
And aloha is actually the living presence of spirit.
What aloha really means,
The living presence of spirit.
So if we're really going to be in that presence of spirit,
That will be aloha.
But when you get to a stoplight and someone cuts you off when you're going to turn,
You still,
It's like,
Hey,
You know.
You still got it.
So it's an amazing practice.
And since we've all gone through COVID-19 here,
I've seen sometimes aloha go right out the window because people are on edge about so many things.
So that's,
Again,
That light shining in the darkness that will give us a chance to learn our lessons.
We came here for it.
We came here to be imperfect.
We came here to be in the world and then accept this living presence here and live with that beingness as much as we can,
And still love ourselves and love others with aloha.
And it's been a practice that's been going around here for centuries,
But still is something we all need to do.
And I am seeing it getting better all the time.
I really am.
There's people who,
Through this time,
Like you and others,
Who have been doing more work than ever in these days of COVID-19,
More positive work,
More people helping.
You know,
We can't all be St.
Teresa.
But you think about someone who just decided to give up her own life and work with people who were in need,
You know,
And just seeing them like that.
I can still get inspired by what I see you do and what I see others do.
And every day,
See,
There's so many people out there trying to do good that I get what Mahatma Gandhi said,
Because anytime he starts to feel that there's no hope for the world and that there's darkness and things and tyrants are taking over,
He said,
Every single time,
Always the good lands up winning.
And I'm paraphrasing there.
But,
You know,
He says always without fail.
And sometimes we need that hope that we think of the times of world wars and crisis,
And we do always come out.
But it's in the practice of making it to that point of recognizing we are the light bringers,
We are the light showers,
And we need to love ourselves.
We need to find that peace within ourselves and do everything we can,
Not for just ourselves,
But to help everyone in the world.
I totally agree.
And you remind me of an exercise that one of my greatest teachers taught me,
Arthur Joseph.
He said,
You know,
When I was a young man,
I didn't love myself.
He was abandoned by his father at a very young age.
And so he said one day I was called by source to start telling myself in the mirror,
I love you.
And he said that changed his life.
And he shared that practice with me probably about seven or eight years ago when we began working together.
And it seems almost trite.
But when you really put the time and energy in,
Every day,
Just look at yourself in the mirror and say,
I love you.
And you might cry.
I cry often when I tell it to myself.
And the other thing Arthur taught me to say is that you are an extraordinary woman doing extraordinary things.
You could say you're an extraordinary man,
Whatever you relate to,
However you want to define yourself.
And doing those two things,
Saying I love you and you are extraordinary,
Whether or not you believe it in the beginning,
Eventually it kind of fills you up and you expand and you expand and you expand.
And then the beautiful thing that I've noticed about this,
Cindy,
Is you stop taking energy from the people around you because you've now filled your bucket up and your cup runneth over.
And now you can share from the blessings of abundance of love that you already know you're taking care of and you have everything.
And then that gives you the greater capacity to be and to be present and blissful in all moments in life rather than trying to take energy from people or situations.
Well,
That is two beautiful exercises and worth everyone doing every single day.
And look at how beautiful you have embraced that.
And show it and express it.
Dr.
Wayne Dyer was a friend of mine.
And he wrote actually a book about this.
But I had a chance to interview him many times.
And before it became a book,
It actually became a movie as well.
He was going out and doing talks and was very,
Very successful.
But he felt like he didn't really deserve it because his father had abandoned him.
And he grew up in foster homes.
And he said he didn't ever talk about it,
But he hated his father for abandoning him as a kid.
And he said he finally had to address it.
And he went down to see his father's grave.
And it took him a lot to find his because his father died a pauper and he had to find the grave.
And he was going to go there.
And I hate to say this,
But this is the truth.
This is what he says in the movie.
He was going to piss on his father's grave.
He was that upset.
But something happened to him when he went to his father's grave.
And I think it may have been his father's blessing coming to the spirit.
And he realized he just started crying.
And he realized he had to forgive his father.
So it was the hardest thing he ever did.
But when he did that,
All the doors opened up for him.
And it totally changed his life.
And even if we think that we're past,
Sometimes there's things inside us,
Deep inside,
That we still need to work on forgiveness for.
And that forgiveness goes so deep.
I mean,
For me,
I went through an abusive relationship,
Very abusive relationship.
And I still work to this day,
It was years ago,
On the forgiveness there.
Forgiveness is so powerful.
And when we start to really understand the power of forgiveness,
We can forgive ourselves and the other person.
And we can look into that mirror and really believe,
Indeed,
That we are amazing,
Beautiful,
Strong beings of light.
And we can embrace that and love ourselves 100%.
But it's a wonderful,
Wonderful gift that you share because you've gone through this work that you've gone through.
And everyone is going through it,
No matter how long their practice has been.
I see people coming on the scene and Inside Timer 20-year-olds that are just like beaming goddesses.
Some of them are just amazing and going,
Wow,
Look at what this planet's bringing in.
There's so many beings of light right now that it gives me hope.
And we need it because this Earth is facing challenges like we've never seen before.
And we need all the beings of light and all the light bringers and the wonderful people working out there to help in the next,
I won't be around the rest of the century,
In 20,
30 years.
I still have hope for everything that's going to be happening to this planet because there are so many wonderful people at work doing what they need to do to help save the planet.
So beautiful.
Cindy,
We're going to have to have you on the show again because you and I can clearly talk for hours.
Oh,
Yeah.
I do invite everybody to tune in.
It'll be,
I think,
In two weeks that the Coalition for Global Unity Meditation you facilitated will be airing here on the network at noon Pacific time.
And I know you have your shows,
Too,
In Hawaii.
Is there any way that people can tune into those?
Or how would they go about finding information out about them?
Well,
First of all,
My website,
Cindypalos.
Com.
And I'm on iHeartRadio.
I'm on Podbean.
I'm on iTunes.
If you go to TuneIn,
Mystical perspectives there,
All the major things,
You should be able to find my different podcasts.
Gosh,
I've done so many now.
I just went and checked it.
I've done thousands,
Literally thousands and thousands of interviews over the years.
But they're all on Podbean.
So if you go to Cindy Paolo's show on Podbean,
It's just one of the many sites they're on.
Well,
Thank you so much,
Cindy.
I can't wait to read your book when it comes out.
I'm so excited.
And I love that you and I are so on the same frequency that we just have this thought is that,
Like,
Let's just share spiritual tools.
I think everybody needs cancel,
Cancel.
We all have an opportunity,
If we choose to,
To embrace our spiritual path and growth.
And one of the ways I know I've grown from it,
Much like you probably,
Is through the wonderful teachers and tools that I've been exposed to.
And I certainly would not be the human being I am today if it weren't for all of those wonderful tools and teachers.
Absolutely.
And you are such a blessing.
And I thank you.
Thank you for what you're doing,
The wonderful service you're providing.
You are a beautiful being of light and love.
And I appreciate you.
That takes one to know one,
My friend.
Thank you so much,
Cindy.
And I'm just so deeply grateful to have you here.
And thank you for joining us.
And thank you to all of our viewers and listeners out there.
If we missed any of your comments during today's show,
I promise to get back to you and check those at a later time.
And every Monday,
Please do tune in to AwakeTVNetwork.
Live.
And the Coalition for Global Unity Meditations that Cindy and many other leaders from around the world have been facilitating for 52 weeks of free global meditations,
Helping give people access to maybe different styles of meditation that you haven't come across before.
And do follow Cindy,
Too,
On Insight Timer.
I'm a huge fan of Insight Timer.
And I know Cindy Pelos has many followers on Insight Timer and meditations there.
So please do check those out as well.
