Welcome to this short relaxation meditation to help you relax and let go of tension in your body.
Let me start with the Chinese proverb that says,
Tension is what you think you should be,
Relaxation is who you are.
This sums up nicely,
Or maybe not so nicely,
The way most of us live our lives.
We have become so accustomed to tension and stress that we often find it difficult to rest in relaxation.
So for the next few minutes you are going to give yourself a little break.
Give yourself permission to switch off,
To relax,
To let go of the tension and just be,
Just for a little while.
So get comfortable in your chair,
Take a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and on the out breath,
Relax.
And another long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and on the out breath,
Relax a little more.
Continue to breathe slowly in your own time.
Some of our tension comes from feeling responsible,
Responsible to get things done,
Responsible for other people.
We sometimes even feel responsible to fix other people,
Our partners,
Our children,
Our siblings.
We are always worrying about someone and what we should do to help.
But the majority of what's going on with other people is not our responsibility to fix.
These people are on their own journeys and they need to figure things out for themselves.
Sometimes our tension can come from worrying about the future,
Worrying about things that haven't yet happened.
We spend so much time thinking and worrying about things that we don't have any control over.
We waste our precious life with our attention fixed on this potential future scenario that we actually don't want to happen.
Ridiculous I know,
But we are human.
So don't judge yourself for doing it.
Just make a decision to notice from now on.
Notice when you are doing it and replace the worrying thought with a more positive one.
Maybe replace it with gratitude or love or another positive emotion that will contribute to reducing your tension and anxiety.
So taking a long,
Slow,
Deep breath in and on the exhale choose to let go.
Let go of the tension.
Let go of the worries.
Let go of the stress.
Breathing into your forehead.
Breathing out and letting go.
Relaxing your forehead.
Breathing into your jaw.
Breathing out and letting go.
Consciously relax your jaw.
Moving it around to release the tension.
Now breathing into your neck.
Breathing out,
Relaxing your neck and letting go.
Breathing into your shoulders.
Breathing out and letting go.
Breathing into your back.
Relaxing all of your spine.
Breathing out and letting go of any tension in your spine.
Breathing into your hips and your legs and your feet.
Breathing out and letting go.
Slowing down your breath gives your body an opportunity to reset,
To release stress and tension and to avoid a build up in your body.
Take these regular short breaks to keep your body and mind happier and healthier.
Take one final,
Slow,
Deep breath in and relax and let go.
Thank yourself for taking the time to reset your nervous system.
Thank you for meditating with me and I wish you a beautiful and peaceful day.
