Hi and welcome to this meditation on overcoming Imposter Syndrome.
The phenomenon known as Imposter Syndrome was originally based on a 1978 study which focused on high achieving women.
The researchers Clancyne Iames stated,
Despite outstanding academic and professional accomplishments,
Women who experience the imposter phenomenon persist in believing that they are not really bright and have fooled anyone who thinks otherwise.
Many famous women,
Including Sheryl Sandberg,
Michelle Obama and Charlize Theron have all confessed to experiencing it.
It has since been recognized that men suffer as much as women from Imposter Syndrome.
So now that you know you are among good company and that you are not strange or different to most of us,
Let's take some time out to let go of one of the beliefs that is associated with Imposter Syndrome and some of the stuck energy and emotion that is reinforcing your feelings of not being good enough.
So get yourself comfortable,
Settle into your space and let's start by letting go of all of the tension in your body.
Take a nice long deep breath in and on the exhale relax your body.
Taking another long slow deep breath in,
Physically noticing how your body relaxes a little more on each out breath.
Inhaling giving yourself permission to let go and exhaling and relaxing.
Inhaling acceptance.
Exhaling resistance.
Inhaling confidence.
Exhaling and relaxing.
You may have many beliefs that reaffirm your thoughts of not being good enough.
So I recommend that after this meditation you take some time to write them all down.
You can then repeat this meditation with the conscious awareness of those beliefs so that you can let them go with each emotional release.
For today we are going to start with the belief I'm not good enough.
So bring your awareness into your body and repeat the words in your head I am not good enough.
Notice how your body reacts to these words.
Notice what your body is feeling.
You may feel a tightness in your stomach or in your chest.
Maybe there's a feeling that's become so much part of your life you have become accustomed to it.
You may feel like you have a fuzzy head.
Whatever you're currently feeling I want you to rest your awareness on that feeling just for a moment.
This feeling is stuck emotion.
Stuck energy that you have chosen to hold on to in your body.
But if you choose to you can let that feeling go.
So as you keep your attention on the feeling let me ask you if you are ready to let this feeling go.
If you answer yes notice how already the feeling is starting to move.
Give it a colour and watch how the energy of that colour starts to leave your body.
If the feeling started at a 10 you will notice its intensity is reducing to an 8,
A 7 and now a 6.
Slowly but steadily the emotion is leaving your body.
It knows it is not part of present time.
All of this emotion belongs to the past and holding it is not doing anyone any favours.
As you release this emotion from your body release the belief and watch as the belief flows away as the emotion continues to reduce from a 6 to a 5 and a 4.
The colour losing its intensity as it leaves your body and your space.
Continue to visualise this feeling moving out of your body.
Now a 4 to a 3 then a 2 and a 1 and a 0.
Letting it all go because it is safe to let it go.
What you are doing is leaving the past in the past and allowing your body to come into present time.
Take another nice big deep breath and on the exhale just release any last bit of emotion.
And now let's replace that limiting belief with a more empowering one.
I am good enough.
And let's choose a colour that goes with that feeling of being good enough.
Now imagine that colour infused with the belief of being good enough.
Imagine it coming down from the sky and entering into your head.
Flooding through your body infusing you with the empowering colour of calm confidence.
And knowing that you are good enough,
Smart enough and worthy enough.
Continue to watch that colour fill you up,
Fill all your cells allowing the positive emotions of calm confidence to rush right through you.
I am good enough.
I am confident.
I am calm.
I am worthy of my success.
You can refill yourself with the colour and the positive belief as often as you like.
And now when you are ready in your own time take a nice big deep breath in and exhale and open your eyes.
