Becoming comfortable with uncertainty.
It seems that throughout our lives we strive and make great effort to want to know,
To want to be in control of the future as it arrives.
And it's normal,
It's natural,
It's almost a survival instinct to be able to project into the future,
To be able to predict what others will do,
How a situation will evolve and adapt to this.
However,
When we anchor our attention in only the preoccupation and the prediction and the anxiety of wanting to know,
We lose sight of the present,
We lose sight of our ability to listen and respond.
Another factor of life which is important to acknowledge when it comes to uncertainty is the fact that life is interesting when it's spontaneous.
That's when the mysterious,
The magical,
The unpredictable moments come forth.
Think how many times in your life on your path you've been taken down an unexpected road to find just what you needed.
And so on this journey of life,
On this journey of our soul,
It seems that we need to on one hand be open to uncertainty,
Accept it as a factor that makes a life well lived,
Yet at the same time strive to respond,
To listen,
To adapt,
To have control over our action and the way we engage with our reality.
And it's these two sides that we need to honour,
The self and the chaos,
The structure and the open sea of potential.
It is only when we acknowledge these two aspects of our being that we can come into harmony.
And it's a little bit of a paradox.
It's challenging,
Impossible for a rational mind to really comprehend these two things at once.
And therefore the art of living,
The art of becoming comfortable with uncertainty lives in the heart.
Breathe into the heart with me.
Only here can we really be open to acknowledge the fullness of these two aspects.
The sensation of our heart beating ourselves and presence right here,
Right now.
The control of our fingers as we clench and unclench our hands.
Take an inhale and an exhale.
And at the same time sense our surroundings,
An openness,
An expanse far greater than anything comprehendable.
The eternal stream of joy,
Presence,
Love and surprise that exists in the universe around us.
Just taking a couple of breaths into this to open,
To feel,
To let these two aspects of yourself unite naturally as each moment requires.
And it's natural,
It's normal for the mind to want to come in,
In this practice and in the wider scope of life.
And it's not about denying it,
It's about coming into acceptance,
Acknowledgement,
Observation of it.
To see it as part of this whole narrative that you are unfolding in this very moment,
Eternal.
And so present to your breath,
Breathe with this now,
With the oneness that you are.
The acceptance of uncertainty and the fabric of life as it comes to be felt in each approaching moment.
And to it we give our gratitude,
We give our thanks.
We open to everything that life in the universe has offered and will offer.
To each moment that we can recognize as true.
To each moment that we can resonate with.
To the life as one in us.
Thank you.
Namaste.
