This is to help improve a temporary low mood or as a regular practice, it may contribute to overall emotional well-being. This is not a cure for depression. I attribute Abraham Hicks to the practice. I first utilized the practice when I found myself in a funk and didn't know how to pull myself out. After about five minutes, I noticed an alleviation of symptoms. The repeated practice of gratitude may release feel-good chemicals for tangible physical relief. I hope you enjoy the exercise.

This is a process to just elevate your emotional sense of well-being in the short term and when practiced on a regular basis can have permanent effects.

Just begin where you are,

Getting comfortable.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and then just deeply exhale.

Repeat this two more times.

Anytime you need or notice that your mind is in a frazzled or uncomfortable state,

Always remember the breath first.

Refresh with the deep breath in and just feel the tension and physical body relax from that release.

Once you've done that,

If you're comfortable with your eyes closed,

That's how I recommend this to be done.

But of course,

It's not imperative.

So what we're going to do is just bring to mind seemingly mundane things of which we are grateful for.

And we're going to think of how many different things we can bring to our attention and awareness in a short amount of time.

Begin right where you are.

Do you have a bed?

Perhaps I'm grateful for my bed.

I'm grateful for this blanket.

I'm grateful for that pillow.

I'm grateful for food in my cupboards.

I'm grateful that somebody has crafted a metal spoon out of ore mined from the earth.

How many people involved?

That is amazing that I can open a drawer and grab a spoon.

I'm grateful that I have a place to call home.

I'm grateful that I'm breathing right now.

I'm grateful that I have a place that I can take my shoes off and enjoy the sand on the beach.

I'm grateful that I can see the mountains.

I'm grateful that the sun feels warm on my skin.

I'm grateful that I am able to recognize the beauty in the sunset.

Just allow your mind to go wild on this recognition of all the wonderful things that maybe we overlook on a regular basis.

By practicing and just becoming aware of all the many things around us that we sometimes have taken for granted can elevate our sense of well-being.

I encourage you to let this go on in your mind for a minimum of five minutes.

Just bring up as many things as you can to help yourself recognize that really we are surrounded by so many gifts and blessings that make our life a little bit easier.

Think about the things that we have access to that a hundred years ago would have been unheard of.

As we become more aware and more grateful for all the things that we've been taking for granted,

There is something to it and our body will,

Through this process of extreme gratitude,

Open up the floodgates and release some of those feel-good chemicals into our body.

Through this process,

We are able to move up a couple notches on the emotional scale,

Going from depressed to maybe a place of a little bit more control where we feel better than we did before we began this process.

I wish you well and I hope that you find the time to take this barrage of gratitude more often.

Thank you.
