Freedom
by Chinua
This is a talk about freedom. The purpose is to open our minds to the possibility that we are the curators of our freedom. We are more than capable of letting go of the rules and chains placed on us as children. Every day, we have the opportunity to choose freedom.

Hi,
My name is Shenmue Hawk,
And welcome to my talk,
Freedom.
Before we get started,
Let's take a few deep breaths together to release any tension or stress you may be feeling.
Take a deep breath in,
And exhale.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
With each exhale,
Feel yourself getting more and more relaxed.
Not sleepy,
Just relaxed.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
What would life be like if you were free?
Free to dream without judgment.
Free to make mistakes.
Free to dance,
No matter who's watching.
Free to live the life you desire,
Out loud,
Without worry or fear.
What would that feel like?
If it were possible,
Would you even be in a place to allow yourself to experience that feeling?
What if you could experience life as an adult without the no's that were forced upon you as a child?
No,
Don't do this.
No,
Don't touch that.
No,
You can't be that.
Imagine if you had been allowed to explore this brand new world around you without being labeled as bad,
Hard-headed,
Or as someone who doesn't listen,
Or as someone incapable of making decisions for themselves.
All of those experiences have a direct effect on how you operate today.
How would it benefit you to free yourself?
And I don't mean freedom in an irresponsible way,
But true freedom.
Freedom that allows you to choose the experiences that are for your highest good,
Even if the people around you don't understand your choice.
I'd like to begin this talk by telling you a story that you've probably heard before.
Go ahead and close your eyes and focus on the sound of my voice.
I do not know the origin of this story,
But it's been said that there was a baby elephant chained by one leg to a stake in the ground.
The baby elephant struggled to free herself,
But she wasn't strong enough.
The story goes on to say that even when the elephant became an adult,
She could be tied to that same stake with that same chain and she wouldn't move.
As an adult,
She is powerful enough to break free,
But the conditioning she received as a child remained.
She was conditioned in such a way that she would not recognize how powerful she was or that she could even choose freedom for herself.
You are a powerful,
Divine,
Infinite being.
You have always been that same being,
Even as a child,
But somewhere along the way,
You got lost in the nos and the judgments of others and mistakenly allowed yourself to forget that you are powerful.
You have survived in a cage built by others,
But accepted by you.
The beautiful thing about life is that every day you have a new opportunity to choose something different.
Every day you get to choose to operate within the boundaries of the cage or to spread your wings and fly.
Even if you don't feel like it,
I want you to know that you deserve freedom.
You deserve to see and experience all of the beauty and joy that life has to offer.
You are allowed to explore and to be adventurous.
If you find yourself feeling any resistance to what I'm saying,
That's just your old programming fighting to stay alive.
It's fighting to keep you chained,
Just like that elephant.
You have been programmed to believe that being chained to that stake in the ground equals safety,
And it does not.
If we are not growing,
We are declining.
If we are not living,
We are dying.
You are free to choose to walk out of that cage into the life that you were destined to live.
The key to your freedom is in your hands.
One day,
One step,
One decision at a time is all it takes to move the story of your life forward.
So what will you choose today?
Will you choose to stay bound by the opinions and fears of others,
Or will you embrace that you are a divine,
Infinite being capable of magnificent things?
Your life is not a mistake.
You were not created to be abused,
Misused,
Or made to feel less than.
Just imagine your mind as a piece of land given to you as a child.
This land is beautiful,
Fertile,
Perfect.
But as a child,
You're not physically strong enough to care for it yet,
So the adults around you begin to take care of it for you.
The adults in your life don't stop to ask questions about what's best for you.
They just plant the seeds that they think are best for you.
And eventually what grows is something foreign and unfamiliar to you.
But you become an adult and continue to nurture what was planted by others,
Because you've been taught to believe that that is what is best for your field.
But somewhere along the way you realize that your field is not thriving because it is overrun with things that were never meant to be planted there.
These foreign entities are robbing your field of its life-giving and sustaining nutrients.
So in an effort to fix it,
You begin pulling up the weeds and other foreign plants.
But it doesn't take too long before someone comes along asking,
What are you doing?
Don't do that.
Don't change this.
This is how it's supposed to be.
These people believe that your field should look exactly like theirs and their parents before them,
And so on and so on.
So you stop and the field becomes overgrown and chaotic again.
But the question is,
Why did you listen to them?
For most of us,
The answer is because we believed that that person had some power over our lives.
We believed that their knowledge far exceeded our own.
But how was it possible that someone could know more about the life that you are destined to live than you do yourself?
It's your life,
And that field that is your mind belongs to you and to you alone.
And you can choose to burn it all down and plant the seeds that will allow you to thrive.
You get to choose who you will and will not allow into your garden.
That field that is your mind.
If I were to ask you the question,
What do you think of yourself?
Could you honestly answer that question today without it being influenced by how others have treated you or what they have had to say about you?
We are not meant to be copies of each other.
We are meant to be individuals thriving,
Making the world more vibrant and beautiful because our acceptance of ourselves opens the door to our acceptance of others.
That cage you're in or that stake you're tied to keeping you in place is equivalent to living life on the sidelines.
It's like being at a party with a desire to dance the night away.
But instead,
You end up watching everyone else enjoy it because you are afraid to embrace your freedom.
You're afraid of looking silly or being made fun of.
So you sacrifice your joy and freedom over and over again based on what others will think or say.
I know what that's like because it's how I've lived a lot of my life.
I've decided not to waste my experience here.
I have decided to thrive.
I set my field on fire and have been replanting my field for a few years now.
Yes,
Some people have walked away and my circle is smaller now,
But that's life.
Life is consistently evolving,
So things are supposed to change.
You are supposed to change.
My decision to change is one I have to make daily.
I have to remind myself every day that I am choosing something new.
It's so easy to fall back into those old patterns that are aligned with being tied to that stake in the ground.
So today,
I ask you to consider one simple change you can begin with daily to allow yourself to embrace your freedom and create a new experience.
Write it down and then underneath it,
Write the reason why you're doing it because your why will make it worth it.
This is not about trying to change everything all at once.
Just pick one thing to change.
It could be as simple as deciding to meditate for five minutes every morning or deciding to drink more water because you know you don't get enough.
It's up to you to decide what that change is.
I would like to encourage you to focus on that change for the next 21 days.
If it will help,
Write it in a journal or on a calendar and every day begin your day taking a few minutes to remind yourself of the change you're making and the reason why you're doing it.
The sole purpose of this exercise is to solidify the idea that you are capable of making the changes necessary to create the life that you desire.
This exercise is the beginning of you setting that field on fire so you can begin to plant something new of your own choosing.
You hold the key to your freedom and happiness.
Let's take a few deep breaths in together.
Deep breath in and exhale.
Deep breath in and exhale.
And as you continue to breathe,
Allow yourself to relax and to fully engage with your freedom.
Deep breath in and exhale.
I embrace freedom.
I am worthy of freedom.
I am the key to my happiness.
I embrace my evolution.
I embrace freedom.
I am worthy of freedom.
I am the key to my happiness.
I embrace my evolution.
I would encourage you to come back to this talk periodically during your 21 days to refresh and reconnect.
Leave me a comment and let me know how your 21 days goes.
I wish you peace,
Love and freedom.
