Welcome into the Lectio Divina.

This reading is from Psalm 121,

1 through 8.

I will be reading from the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

I will lead you through the passage four times.

After each reading,

I will give you time to reflect on the reading with a different focus each time.

Before we begin,

Find a comfortable place to sit.

Place yourself in a position to receive the Holy Spirit.

Take a deep breath from your nose and release slowly through your mouth and pause.

Relax your body and ask God to be with you and with your thoughts.

Imagine yourself sitting in the presence of God.

Listen for words or phrases that speak to you.

If you find your mind wandering,

Just gently bring it back to the reading.

Take another deep breath from your nose and release slowly from your mouth and pause.

As I read this passage through the first time,

Listen for patterns,

Images,

And ideas.

Listen as if you are listening to someone read a personal letter addressed to you.

The Lord is your keeper.

The Lord is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil.

He will keep your life.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Take another deep breath from the nose and release slowly through the mouth and pause.

As I read through this passage the second time,

Recall anything that stood out to you during the first reading.

Is this something you can connect to your life?

Use your imagination and paint a middle picture of the text.

Place yourself in the story and engage your senses.

What do you experience as you sit in this passage?

I lift up my eyes to the hills.

From where will my help come?

My help comes from the land of the mountains.

My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved.

He who keeps you will not slumber.

He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper.

The Lord is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil.

He will keep your life.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Take another deep breath from the nose and release slowly through the mouth and pause.

As I read this passage the third time,

Reflect on the thoughts,

Feelings,

Actions,

Fears,

Convictions and questions you have experienced up to this point.

Offer these to God in prayer.

Praise God for who God is.

I lift up my eyes to the hills.

From where will my help come?

My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved.

He who keeps you will not slumber.

He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper.

The Lord is your shade at your right hand.

The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil.

He will keep your life.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in.

From this time on and forevermore.

In the name of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Take another deep breath from the nose and release slowly through the mouth and pause.

As I read this passage through the fourth and final time,

Sit in silence in the presence of God.

Be still and know that God is God.

You sit and allow yourself to feel the presence of God and feel God's tender love and embrace.

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Now,

Take another deep breath from the nose and release slowly through the mouth and pause.

As you think about your experience with God during this exercise,

Ask yourself three questions.

What did you learn from or about God?

What did you learn about what God thinks or wants from you?

What action steps,

If any,

Can you take out of conviction from this lesson?

May you feel the presence of God throughout your day today.

Amen.

I’m wondering if you can post these more frequently.. I have run out of them and I find them necessary in starting my day on the right foot. I have searched for other ones but others are filled with talk and someone else’s prayer, which to me, defeats the purpose. I’ve also tried reading scripture and meditating on it but it’s just not the same. Thank you for your time and have a blessed holy week.

I listened to this on my way to work, this morning. I needed to hear this meditation as I have fear going out to help my patients during this time of such uncertainty around the Coronavirus. My fear is I could bring it home to my family if I'm not careful enough. "The Lord will keep your going out and coming in" really resonated with me as if He will protect me and my family from this virus as I continue to do my job that is essential during this time. Thank you!
