This is a mediation that brings us home to the holy light within, so that can we both connect with that light for ourselves as well as open and allow for the sharing of this light with the world. The divine light within us can be a gift both for our own sense of connection to ourselves and a loving God as well as a gift to be shared with the world.

This is a meditation that I call light bearers.

It gives us the opportunity to come home to the divine light within us,

The holy light we all have within our beings,

Within our soul and gives us a chance to expand upon that light within so much so that we can open ourselves,

Allow that light to shine from us and offer light and goodness and wholeness for the world.

So let's begin.

I invite you to choose whatever position is going to work for you for meditating,

Whether that's sitting on your favorite cushion like me or lying down on the bed or a floor or maybe it's sitting in a chair or sitting on the floor,

But just following the wisdom of your body,

Choosing which posture feels the most responsive to your body in this moment.

It may be different the next time you practice.

And then drawing your attention to the feelings and sensations in your body,

Making contact with whatever is beneath you.

So if you're sitting on a chair or sitting on the floor or a cushion,

Just notice how the backs of your legs,

Your bottom,

Your feet are connecting with the ground.

And if you're lying down,

Notice how the all alongside the back of your body is making contact with whatever you're lying upon.

Just drawing your attention to your body by noticing what you're making contact with.

And if you feel so inclined,

You can close your eyes or cast them down,

Bringing your attention into your inner landscape,

Which sometimes helps us to drop more fully into the body,

Into the presence of our embodied selves.

If it feels responsive,

I invite you to draw your attention to your hips,

Noticing any feelings and sensations in your hips,

Your lower back,

Your lower belly,

And then choosing to pull through your spine,

A nice elongated back.

So again,

Starting in the hips,

Pulling through that spine,

A nice long spine.

And then if you want to,

Doing a couple shoulder rolls,

Or if you're lying down,

Maybe some shoulder shrugs,

Where you're bringing your shoulders up to your ears,

And then letting them go,

Releasing any tension that's built up.

And when that feels complete,

Leaving the shoulders in a slightly back position,

Which creates a little bit of an opening through the chest.

So again,

In your hips,

Pulling up through the back,

Opening through the chest,

Chin slightly up,

And now slow your breathing.

So just following the wisdom of your body,

You're going to elongate your breath by a beat or two or three,

Both on the inhale and on the exhale.

So just whatever a normal in-breath would feel like to you,

Adding on to it,

Extending that breath by a couple beats,

And then releasing that breath,

Extending the out-breath by a couple beats,

And just alighting your attention on your breath.

We're using our breath as a way of coming home to the body,

Noticing what the body organically does all on its own.

Beautifully done.

You may notice that your in-breath and out-breath are the same.

They have the same extension,

Or you may want to have your out-breath be slightly longer,

Or noticeably longer,

Than your in-breath.

And you can play with it.

See what feels responsive to your body in this present moment.

Maybe you notice that your body really likes,

It feels good to have your in-breath and out-breath be the same number of beats.

And maybe it feels more responsive,

That there's a greater sense of relief,

Maybe,

When your out-breath is longer than your in-breath.

So again,

There's no,

No judgment.

There's no right or wrong.

It's simply giving yourself the gift of noticing.

Noticing how your body responds.

Noticing what it prefers.

And letting that go,

Coming back to just a normal rhythm of breathing.

So we're not asking our breath to elongate anymore.

Just letting that go.

And now in your mind's eye,

Taking in your full scope of yourself.

The wholeness of your being in just this present moment.

Noticing any thoughts that are coming and going.

Noticing any emotions that are present.

Noticing any feelings,

Bodily sensations.

Sometimes it can be hard to stay with any of these things.

Your thoughts,

Your emotions,

Your physical sensations,

Or stirring of your heart,

Stirring of your soul.

But in this present moment,

Notice that there's room for all of it.

You don't need to deny any of it or push it away.

Simply an opportunity to be with what's already here.

And see if you can be with whatever's here within you,

With a sense of kindness,

A sense of love for yourself,

Exactly where you are in this moment.

Maybe even a sense of curiosity.

It's like,

Oh,

Where am I right now?

What is going on inside of me?

See if you can hold it with a sense of playfulness.

Maybe even a sense of joy.

Okay,

And so let that awareness go.

Draw your attention to your breath.

Starting in your chest.

You may even want to put a hand on your chest.

Noticing that slight rise and fall of your chest as life-giving air moves in and out of your body.

If you notice that your mind wanders,

No worries.

That's just a mind being a mind.

You can use it as an opportunity to go,

Ah,

I'm aware.

I notice where my mind is.

It's not where I want it to be.

And then very kindly,

Gently,

Firmly draw the attention back home to the breath.

And drop your attention a little bit further down into your diaphragm.

If you want to,

You can place your hand between your belly button and your ribcage.

And see if you can get a sense right there of an inflation and deflation of your belly.

As you notice this diaphragmatic breathing,

The body taking air in all the way down through your torso so that it expands the belly a bit.

And then as you exhale,

That air goes.

It leaves the body and the belly deflates.

Just allowing yourself to be right here,

Connected to this life-giving breath moving in and out of your body.

Now I invite you to imagine a sense of light underneath your hand.

So right there between your belly button and your ribcage,

See if you can imagine light.

Maybe it's in the form of a ball.

Maybe it's just lines of light.

When I imagine this,

I see like a honey golden yellow color.

It's kind of swirling.

There's lots of different shades of yellows and golds.

There's a movement to it.

See what you imagine.

How do you imagine light in your body?

And then simply breathing with it.

Breathing with this sense of light within you.

So the breath comes in,

Taps down into this light,

Maybe feeds,

Fans the light.

Oh and then the breath leaves the body again.

Again,

Giving yourself the gift of being simply right here in this present moment by way of your body.

Now see if you can imagine that light source,

That light source within you,

That holy light radiating from beneath your hand,

Stretching out to every fiber and cell of your torso.

Notice your body,

How it may be affected by sensing this light traveling to every fiber and cell of your body.

Right,

So then from your torso moving out into your extremities so that slowly but surely this light is spreading,

Filling every single part of your body.

I notice that when I do this I get a smile on my face.

It just comes over me.

There's something so delightful,

So joy-filled by intentionally allowing the body to fill with a sense of holy light.

We have these beautiful bodies given to us and they're vessels.

When we take good care of these bodies,

You know,

Even when we don't take good care of our bodies,

They can still be a vessel for light.

So this meditation is we're coming home to that divine light that's already woven within us.

This divine light that's just waiting to be remembered,

Discovered,

And spread.

And again,

Just breathing with this sense of light all throughout your being,

Touching every fiber and cell of your body,

Filling your spirit,

Filling your soul,

Filling your whole being.

Just breathing with.

Now let's take it a little bit further.

See if you can sense an opening in your being,

A willingness,

An allowing for this light that resides inside of you to radiate out from your being.

So the light is both staying centralized within your body.

I think of it as moving up and down my spine.

So it stays there and it also expands beyond the boundary of my body,

Radiating out into the space beyond me.

And just sense in your openness and your allowing,

If there's a way in which the light just flows on its own,

Just flows on its own out into the world,

Landing wherever it may be needed.

We don't even have to know where it's needed.

We simply are willing to be a vessel of holy light,

A vessel of goodness.

And that light can travel and be shared.

We can trust the wisdom of the Holy Spirit,

The wisdom of the universe,

The wisdom of the earth,

The wisdom of humanity,

That the light will go exactly where it needs to go.

It will land exactly where it needs to land,

Whether that's upon the earth itself,

Whether it's within someone's heart,

Whether it's within a community.

Again,

We don't have to have control or direction over that.

We remain open and willing and allowing.

We're both staying grounded in this holy sense of light and open to it being shared,

Flowing,

Flowing from our being out into the world.

And again,

Just breathing with.

We don't have to worry about whether the light will be received.

We can simply trust its goodness,

Trust that it will go,

That it will land,

That it will be received exactly where it's needed.

And we simply stay open and breathe,

Breathe with this holy sense of light radiating within us and from us.

Oh,

And I invite you to just let that go,

Coming home to the feelings and sensations in your body,

Making contact with whatever's beneath you.

And when you feel ready,

Opening your eyes,

Taking in the visual scape around you.

If you so choose,

Taking a deep in-breath,

Taking your arms up over your head,

And then releasing,

Exhaling and allowing the arms to go down to your side.

And again,

Inhale,

Arms up,

And release.

One last time,

Deep cleansing breath.

Inhale,

Arms go up,

And release,

Arms go down.

Oh,

Beautifully done.

You may want to give yourself a moment of gratitude,

Thanking yourself for taking time to come home to this divine,

Holy light within you,

And also giving thanks for your willingness to share that light with your community,

The world about you.

So be well.

Be well on your journey.

May the light bless you wherever you are,

And may it continue to have a rippling positive effect to all it goes to.

Amen.

A beautiful meditation to begin my day and to center my focus on the light within radiating into community.
