Welcome.
This meditation is designed to help guide and teach you the art of convalescence.
Convalescence is the time spent recovering from an illness or medical treatment.
Convalescence enables our bodies to heal and return to optimal health sooner.
Historically,
Convalescence was an important part of care and this lost art over the years has meant we soldier on with the pressures of modern times to be productive and move through pain and sickness.
When you have returned to work not feeling 100%.
When you have struggled with your day with fatigue,
Lethargy,
Pain.
When you have pushed on with your day when your body is asking you to rest and sleep.
When you have pushed on with exercise.
When you have forced yourself to attend a social gathering.
When you have taken medication to allow your body to go to work rather than resting.
The art of convalescence was emphasized by Florence Nightingale in 1854.
The way to beat disease is to strengthen the body and make the environment conducive to healing.
This is now known as the environmental theory.
Florence Nightingale's environmental theory is the act of utilizing your environment to assist in recovery.
The key features of most healing environments include regular rest throughout the day in your week.
Do not rush or hurry.
Drink filtered water.
Eat small nutritious meals.
Obtain clean fresh air.
Practice deep slow breath work.
Rest after eating.
Gently move.
Keep warm.
Keep your environment quiet and clean.
Get some sunshine.
Don't allow drama or others to disrupt your peace.
Each of us will require different strategies in our healing environment and in the process of recovery.
Allow yourself the time to ask your body and mind what it needs to heal.
What makes you happy?
What invigorates you?
What energizes you?
What do you find nourishing and healing?
Your strategy to heal may include reading a book,
Receiving acupuncture,
Having a massage,
Meditation,
Hypnotherapy,
Painting,
Going on a retreat or even a holiday,
Fasting,
Juicing,
Spending time with your pet,
Stretching,
Sleeping,
Spending time by the water,
The ocean or the river or a lake.
There are so many.
As you sit or lie here today,
Ask yourself what you need to heal.
What environment do you need to create to allow your body to rest,
Restore,
Recuperate,
Recover?
As you take a deep breath in,
Acknowledge and respect how your body is functioning to restore you back to good health.
Knowing that each of us will require different strategies in the process of recovery.
Knowing and respecting that each of us has a different speed and rate of convalescence.
For some this may be a week,
For some a month,
Others longer.
Start by providing your body with the environment it needs for healing.
By providing your mind with the environment it needs for healing.
Then lay your strategies for recuperation,
Recovery and restoration.
Knowing the environmental theory and cure of rest will help you convalesce and restore to optimal health.
I wish you well in your journey to health,
Happiness and healing.
Shalom.
