Come to find a stable supported seat.
If it's available to you,
You might sit outdoors or near an open window or even near a fan with the breeze moving across your skin.
You might sit on the floor or in a chair with your hips lifted higher than your knees and the back of your hands resting on your thighs with the palms open in a gesture of receptivity.
Allow your awareness to move through the body,
Making any adjustments to find a sense of openness and ease.
Let your spine belong,
Your body supported.
You might soften your gaze or if you prefer,
You might close your eyes.
Finding stillness,
Finding awareness of your body resting open and easeful.
Finding your awareness to the air element by you in your environment.
The element that drives all movement,
The wind that moves the atmosphere and moves the currents in the oceans,
The movement of water and rivers and streams,
Of molten lava moving in the Earth's mantle,
Of plants pushing upward,
The movement of all living creatures.
Finding your awareness to the air element in your physical body,
Your ability to move your body in the world.
Sending your awareness to your heart center,
To the lungs that move air inward,
The heart that moves oxygenated blood from the lungs throughout the circulatory system,
Movement through the lymphatic system and the movement of digestion and elimination.
Draw awareness to the air element in your subtle body,
The movement of thought,
Sensation and emotion in the mind and body,
The processing of information,
Thoughts and experiences,
The subtle elimination of beliefs and feelings that no longer serve you.
Begin to direct your awareness back to your heart center,
Inhaling deep into the lungs,
Sensing the chest expand,
Exhaling sensing the chest contract,
Supporting the intake of air and of oxygen and prana or life force energy within the air.
Exhaling in and downward to fill the lungs,
Exhaling moving nourishment upward to the neck and head,
Inhaling to expand the belly,
Exhaling contracting the belly,
Massaging the movement of the digestive system.
Exhale drawing awareness to the heart center and exhaling moving the circulatory and lymphatic systems throughout all parts of the body.
Inhaling in and downward to fill the lungs and belly,
Exhaling moving that which no longer serves you downward and out,
Continuing to inhale moving prana in,
Exhaling what no longer serves out,
Inhaling and exhaling.
Novel music And holding on to that connection to your air element,
Your quality of movement,
And gently allow your awareness to come to rest on your natural breath,
Riding the rise of the inhale,
The pause at the top,
The fall of the exhale and the pause at the bottom,
Rising and falling,
Lifting body and breath,
Inhaling and exhaling.
And gently start to extend the length of the exhale,
Allowing each out breath to be longer and slower than each in breath.
Did you enjoy?
To return to its natural pace.
Perhaps bringing one hand to your heart center and offering yourself any words of support your heart is calling for.
I am intelligent.
I am adaptable.
I am spontaneous.
I give and receive love.
I am open.
I am compassionate.
I feel alive.
And bringing your awareness back to the physical body resting on the earth.
Gently deepening the breath.
And if your eyes were closed,
Slowly opening them to take in the space around you.
May you be happy.
May you be healthy.
May you be safe.
May you be peaceful.
Thank you for sharing your practice with me today.
