When we compress or cling to emotions it creates a disturbance in all aspects of our body, mind and spirit. This anger meditation uses Lion's breath and pranayama to allow your body to process and express the anger it feels. Not denying it of it's pain or suffering but instead honoring it, voicing it and allowing it to go. We finish with a heart centering practice of compassion to help fill the space the anger once occupied. Enjoy!

Transcript

Take a large breath in through your nostrils and sigh through your mouth as you exhale.

Again breathing deeply in through the nostrils and sighing on your exhale.

Shrug your shoulders up to your ears,

Engaging your muscles as you inhale and let them drop and release tension as you exhale.

Again inhaling,

Shrugging your shoulders and bringing them up and sighing as you exhale and release them.

One more time,

Inhaling and squeeze,

Exhale and relax.

Allow your breath to flow more naturally and at ease.

Feeling a gentleness and a smoothness to the quality of your breath.

Just notice how you feel.

Only by honoring all of our emotions are we honoring our truth.

Allow your body the honor of voicing your emotions so you can process them fully and live more presently.

By giving your emotions a voice or outlet you can then fully let go of those emotions.

In a moment you will breathe in deeply through your nose and tighten the muscles of your body as you inhale.

Then exhale powerfully giving your anger a full expression and release.

This is known as lion's breath.

While exhaling you will bring the tongue down to the chin and if a facial expression of anger wants to come through honor that expression.

Then begin inhaling deeply and exhale the lion's breath releasing your anger fully and into the earth.

Repeat this three more times.

Come back to a gentle and calm breath.

Closing your eyes be aware of how your body is feeling in this moment.

And you will repeat this breath three more times allowing any remaining anger you are holding to release out of your body and into a safe space.

Inhale deeply.

Exhale anger.

Letting it all out.

Bringing again back to a gentle breath.

Releasing the tension in your body.

In the openness you've created slowly and calmly feel the sensations within your body.

Focus your attention to your heart center.

Feel your chest expand and relax as you allow compassion to flow through you from your heart center.

Feel a deep love expand over your entire body.

Now feel this love expand to all of humanity.

Breathing and spreading this love to all those who have ever caused you harm.

Spreading this love to all of planet earth.

Let this love shine through your heart for the rest of the day in the evening.

Let this love shine through your heart for the rest of the day in the evening.

Let this love shine through your heart for the rest of the day in the evening.

I’m so glad I came here when I needed it. I feel recentered. Thank you. People who cause us anger also have pain. It’s hard to remember that at times. Sending love to anyone who reads this.

Carrie you are pure magic. Your voice is a bliss and powerful magic. I wish I met you in person. This worked wonders, I fell into tears and the hatred that I couldn’t contain subsided.

A coyote showed up in our backyard while I was doing Lion's breath. Let it out and then take it easy :)

I really liked the empathic acknowledgment of anger like it is not about being justified. All that matters is finding a healthier emotional outlet for it, which this tries to provide. When I get angry I often judge my own response and it creates a vicious circle that makes me feel miserable. This meditation was a gentle reminder that it’s ok to feel anger.

I very much enjoyed this meditation. While my anger resides in my stomach, I found that it receded quite a bit. I also weirdly found myself with a severe headache upon completion of the meditation. Have you heard of this happening to others? No matter, I feel much more calm and can proceed with my day. Thank you.
