This practice is here to help you diminish the feelings and desires to spend money on material items. Spending can be emotional, addictive, and unnecessary. Living a life of less is often creating space for a life of more. More presence, more gratitude, and connection, and more joy. You may be called to this practice if you are struggling with your finances, in debt, struggling to save, or living paycheck to paycheck. Or, you are curious about living a life where you practice greater detachment from your wants. In this practice, we visualize/sense a no-spend scenario. Then move into what we will fill the space with of the spending we have removed (ie: relationships, presence, etc.)

Welcome.

This practice is here to help you diminish the feelings and desires to spend money on material items.

Spending can be emotional,

Addictive,

And sometimes unnecessary.

Living a life of less is often creating space for a life of more.

More presence,

More gratitude,

More connection,

And more joy.

Buying things can bring us a sense of happiness,

But it is temporary,

Leaving us with a feeling of continually seeking more.

This is not always necessary for us to go into an extreme of not spending on material wants,

But you may be called to this path if you are struggling with your finances,

Struggling saving,

Living paycheck to paycheck,

Or you're curious about living a life where you practice greater detachment from your wants.

As wants and desires can create suffering for us,

We can experience suffering by constantly focusing on what we do not have yet.

This is an endless cycle,

Because no matter how much you have,

Or you've accomplished,

You've accumulated,

You will always be desiring more.

Let's focus on ways that we can remove that itch of wanting to spend more,

And then filling that gap with something internal instead of external.

Picture yourself practicing a no-spend routine,

Not spending on wants,

Only necessities like food and shelter.

There may be some discomfort that arises in this practice for you.

That's okay and natural.

It's something new and unknown for you.

We can become very comfortable fulfilling our material wants,

That we forget we have the power to detach from them,

And trust that everything will be okay,

Possibly even wonderful.

Take some time now to visualize this life of only spending on your needs for survival.

If discomfort arises,

Simply witness it and be with it.

After this portion of the practice,

I will guide you in what we are adding into your life,

By subtracting these material desires.

Begin this visualization or feeling-ization,

Sensing what it would be like,

Look like,

And feel like for you,

Spending only on your necessities.

Do this now.

Wonderful.

Let's take a moment to pause and reset now.

Take three centering breaths.

Now let's move into what we want to replace these desires with,

Or make space for.

I'll guide you through some possibilities to experience,

Then give you some space to feel into your own desires.

First,

What if this simply created more space in your life,

Having less things,

Less clutter,

Less items to maintain,

And more money to disperse into your accounts,

Savings,

Or investments.

Visualize,

Feel,

And sense this spaciousness now.

Now,

What if less spending brings you a greater sense of ease and peace,

Having the security of having access to more finances,

And less time shopping,

Focusing on desires,

Working on manifestation,

Less time feeling like you need to keep saving for the next thing,

And more time to just be,

Being present with what is,

And experience a sense of peace.

Visualize,

Feel,

And sense this peace now.

What if this brings you greater closeness and creativity in your relationships,

Without spending on things to do with others,

You become more creative,

And spend time doing free things where you can enjoy your company together,

For example,

Going on walks,

Hikes,

Playing a game,

Staying in,

And making a meal at home together.

I'll let you visualize,

Feel,

And sense the possibilities in growing your relationships now.

What if not spending on things and accumulating things gives you a greater sense of self-love and worth?

Sometimes we can get caught up in society's views of purpose and worth,

Believing that if we have the nice car,

Nice home,

Nice clothes,

Nice things,

That we will be worthy of being perceived as valuable.

What if detaching from spending on things lets you discover your own inherent worth?

Your worthiness of being yourself as you are,

A human being full of light and dark,

Full of suffering and joy,

And accepting all of this as being enough.

Visualize,

Feel,

And sense this innate inner value in just being yourself now.

Wonderful.

I'm going to give you some time now to reflect on ways that,

By removing unnecessary spending on material things,

Will open new doors for you,

And create opportunities and access to greater depths of your rich inner world and soul.

Do this now.

Great work.

Thank you so much for joining me in this contemplative practice.

I hope you feel inspired or have gained some clarity on your path of spending on material things.

Sending you a big hug.

What a great way for me to connect to how I can “numb” through shopping. The visualization of creating more space is impactful. Thank you! 🙏
