Hello and welcome.
Today you will have the opportunity to practice turning your emotions into art.
That is the brilliance of the written word.
All those emotions that we carry,
We scrape and peel and tug and pull and try to rip those sticky things from ourselves,
The feelings of anger or grief or fear.
But what if you could infuse those emotions with ease into words and put them on the page?
Literally get them out of your body and put them onto the page and turn them into art.
It's transformative.
And as you do this,
You may find you've written a poem or the first lines of a memoir or a novel.
You have created art.
You've used your emotions to do it.
The emotions now are carried on the page,
Not in your body.
As you do this,
I want to remind you there is no wrong or right way to practice putting your emotions on the page.
This is just play,
Practice and exercise,
And there are no limits.
You can also do this with joy,
Happiness,
Love,
Exhilaration,
Other emotions as well.
This is a practice you can turn to over and over and over.
And each time you do,
You'll write something different.
So let's practice.
Find yourself in a comfortable position.
Something that suits your body in this moment,
Your journal by your side,
And gently close your eyes.
And just breathe,
Breathe and notice.
Notice any sounds around you.
Notice how the air feels on your skin,
How your clothes feel on your skin,
How you feel in your seat.
Move your attention inside your body,
Noting any tightness.
Without judgment,
You're noticing.
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
Notice the thoughts running through your head,
Noting if there are any looped thoughts,
Any repetitive thoughts.
Are there any emotions,
Anything bubbling up?
What did you bring in with you today to your meditation?
Without judgment,
You're just noticing.
In a moment,
You'll turn toward your journal and you'll do some writing.
First though,
Some thoughts,
Remembering this is just practice.
We don't go for perfection.
We look at this as a draft,
As an exercise.
When you turn to your page,
I want you to write about how you're feeling or any thoughts rolling around in your head,
But I don't want you to name what they are.
I want you to use something else to describe how you're feeling or what you're thinking.
For instance,
You might use something in nature.
You might use an animal.
You might use a building.
Remember,
There is no wrong way to do this.
Here's an example.
Let's say you're feeling sad,
Grief,
Melancholy.
You might write,
I am rain.
I am spilling,
Sluicing,
Puddling and pooling in my life.
I can't stop.
That's just an example.
It is definitely not perfect.
I might work with it later,
But that's not the point.
The point is we're putting it on the page now.
No matter how it comes out,
We're playing,
We're practicing,
We're having fun.
We don't go for perfection.
I'll give you some time to play on the page.
Turning your emotions into art.
And then I'll come back.
I don't know what it is,
But that's punished.
You you you you you You may be on a roll Onto something I Invite you to keep writing.
I invite you to practice this exercise every day Thank you so much for joining me for turning your emotion into art Write on and namaste
