My name is Carolyn Zeal.
Thank you so much for joining me in this meditation.
Thich Nhat Hanh wrote,
With mindfulness,
You can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.
Again,
With mindfulness,
You can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.
As writers,
Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to do this with ease?
To touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment and then bring them to the blank page.
And in order to do this,
You have to stay aware,
Stay awake to the present moment.
Notice,
Notice details,
Notice what's going on around you,
Sounds,
Smells,
How do things feel.
It's a witnessing.
Rather than dive into something head first,
Thinking about what it is you want to write and how it will turn out and who will read it and what will become of it and all of that.
What if you were to let go and trust your own creative process,
That creative process that bubbles up from within?
In this meditation,
That's what we're going to focus on.
Allowing your creative process to bubble up from within.
Find yourself in a comfortable position,
Whether legs crossed,
Hands upright in your lap,
Back supported or lying down.
And close your eyes.
Let's start by taking a deep inhale through your nose.
And slowly letting it out through your nose.
And another deep inhale through your nose.
And letting it out through your nose.
And one more deep inhale through your nose.
And this time as you release,
Feel the breath moving out of your body and taking with it any stresses of the day,
Any worries.
Let them sort of drain out of you.
And just begin to notice your breath.
Don't try to change it.
Just notice.
Where does it reside in your body?
Just notice.
How is your breath today?
Is it shallow?
Is it calm?
Relaxed?
We don't have to try to change anything.
You have nothing to do.
You know where to be.
You've taken this time to allow yourself to feel into yourself.
To just be.
You may have thoughts come into your mind as you lay here or sit here meditating,
Breathing,
Being still.
And that's okay.
Allow them to drift through your mind.
Don't attach.
Just let them go.
Like clouds.
Let them blow by.
And take a moment for some noticing.
Just notice.
Your head.
How does it feel?
Is it filled with thoughts?
Is it calm?
Moving down to your neck and your throat.
Just witnessing.
Your body.
Your shoulders.
Down to your arms.
Your hands.
Your fingers.
Your chest.
Your back.
Moving your awareness down your torso into your pelvis.
Down your legs.
All the way down to your tippy toes.
Feeling yourself.
Coming back to your breath and just noticing.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
What are you aware of in this moment?
In this present moment.
What are you awake to?
Is there an emotion moving through your body?
Or maybe you're just noticing your heartbeat.
Your beautiful heart.
One of the wonders of life available to you 24-7.
That beating heart that resides in your chest.
This beating heart that is your life.
That is the energy of your life.
That is your creative spark.
This beating heart.
Take a moment and focus in on your heartbeat.
Feel it pulse throughout your whole body.
Feel that heartbeat pulse throughout your whole body.
Pulse.
Your heart.
One of the wonders of life that is always available to you.
With mindfulness you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.
Your heart.
When you find yourself turning toward a blank page wondering about your creative process.
Remember your beating heart and the wonder that it is.
And your ability to focus in and feel and tap into the details and the wonders of life that are available to you.
And look around with those eyes open to the wonders.
Let's focus back on your breath.
Breathing in.
Breathing out.
Feeling your body.
Wiggling your toes,
Your fingers.
Listening to the sounds in the room.
And in your own time open your eyes.
And remember this practice of mindfulness is also the practice of being creative and the writing practice.
Thank you so much for joining me in this meditation.
Namaste.
