Hello and welcome to another episode of the Wild Freewell podcast.
My name is Alaysia and I am super excited to be here with you today.
Today we are going to talk a little bit about identity work and embodiment and I am going to start this episode by telling you a story slash painting you a picture.
So recently I was sitting on my couch,
It was kind of early in the morning and I was maybe feeling like a little bit off and just kind of wondering like what was going on with me energetically and thinking about like what I had to do for the day and what I wanted to do for the day and just kind of I don't know trying to like figure things out let's say.
I was in a place of kind of confusion and maybe lacking a bit of clarity on what I wanted to do versus what I maybe like need to do versus what has to be done in order for like life to go on if that makes sense like do you know I mean we've got all of the basic things that we have to focus on on a daily basis and self-care and like eating well and exercise and there's work and there's talking to clients and all of this stuff and so and then there's like the behind the scenes side of things right like the the admin or the content creation or the taxes and invoicing and so on and so forth.
So there's like a lot of different aspects like that's just from my life obviously I should preface that by saying I mean everybody's life is going to be different but I was sitting there it was quite early in the morning and I was just kind of like I just don't really know what I want to do and I don't really know how I feel and nothing's really clear and whatever and then this question came into my mind because I am working with a couple of clients who are at the exact same space in my program they're at the exact same level and so and I've been thinking a lot about the program as I've mentioned in another episode of the podcast and just kind of like how to refine it and make it even better and like taking kind of the feedback that I'm getting from clients and it's just making me think a lot and I've been kind of assessing like how I can improve it and like I've been taking myself through the program as well so I've been like answering you know the questions and like going through the modules and so on and so forth and one of the things that came up for me this morning is like and it just popped out of nowhere I love it when this happens it's like a kind of like a kind of like bitch slap from the universe like hey wake up but basically like this thought popped into my head and it's like would the version of you that has everything that you want be doing what you're doing right now and I should preface this by saying or I should like kind of expand not preface but anyways that question came into mind and I'll paint you a deeper picture of what I was doing besides sitting in confusion wondering what the hell I was supposed to do I was also kind of like doing things to distract myself so like I wasn't really sure how I felt I wasn't really sure about what I wanted to do or like what felt maybe most aligned and so I was kind of sitting in this space of like well let's just distract myself until I figure it out and like that can come in a myriad of forms and it's I think the number one coping mechanism that we today have because of the digital age that we live in is related to distracting ourselves whether that be with games with social media with like whatever whatever it is that we're doing usually if we're distracting ourselves it's with our phones I think that if you take a look around at your own habits if you take a look around at the people around you and the things that they do the minute that there is even a little bit of discomfort we reach for our phones and we begin to distract ourselves and I was definitely in that space this morning and so when I asked myself this question I was like wow whoa no and no she would not be doing this right now and it made me think that this could be something that would be really relevant for the podcast especially with the discussions that we've been having for the last couple of episodes right so we've been talking about strengths and weaknesses we've been talking about really owning our worthiness and we've been like all of this is is along the same lines of like this showing up as the best version of yourself showing up as the version of you that you want to be and this question what is so powerful about it is that it really helps you take things to the next level because if you want different you need to move differently in the world okay and like Albert Einstein said that the the definition of insanity is trying to solve a say the problem with the same conditions that it was no hang on that's two that's two different things so you can't solve a problem I think they're both Albert Einstein though you can't solve a problem with the same conditions that got you into the problem in the first place and the other one is the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result and that's exactly what this question pulls us out of right when we ask ourselves okay where do I want to go you have to have a little bit of clarity before you get here there are other episodes of the podcast that can help you get to that point okay so dive back into the annals of the of the podcast and you'll be able to find an episode that will help you get clear on what you want but and there's an actually an episode that's called uh do you even want that so that would be a good place to start um but yeah like have to have a little bit of clarity about where what it is that you want and where it is that you're going um I don't feel like I lack clarity in this particular instance I think I didn't like the options that were available to me or I was feeling a little bit sluggish and I felt like the things that I had to do or that I got to do in terms of business were maybe feeling a little bit heavier and not as joyful as they as they as I wanted them to be like as I wanted them to feel and so I was kind of like holding myself back essentially but this question really asks you to take action as the version of you that has what you want and so this is where the embodiment and the identity work comes in because so let's break that down for a second embodiment meaning that you are embodying the version of you that has the life that you want and when I say identity work what I mean here is when we are not embodying that version of ourselves it's probably because we are not currently identifying as someone who has that thing does that thing lives that life okay whatever it is for you um it's there's a good chance that you're embodying a different energy or you have like kind of subconsciously agreed to a different identity than the one that you want because when we have a rock solid identity it really makes a huge difference if we can say I am blank and you fill it in with whatever you want and you believe it in your heart to be true like you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that that is true then that is going to make everything else easier because if you believe that that is true about you you then take actions towards living that way and I have a really good example about this like I mean for one thing I could say is that for years it took me a really long time to embody the title of coach um mostly because there is some janky stuff happening in the industry that I do not agree with and so it was very difficult for me to embody that title because I didn't necessarily want to be associated with the kind of this the shadier aspects of of my industry and so there was a lot of work that I had to do there to unpack that.
Another one that I've talked about before on the podcast is running like when I started running I did not identify as a runner and it made the whole process much more difficult and as I began to um to begin running like as I got into running more consistently and I started embodying that identity and I really started taking it on board because it was an identity that served me then it was a lot easier for me to go out and run because like that's just part of who I am now like I have decided that I'm a runner and so I am going to embody the energy of a runner and I'm going to embody the habits routines and so on and so forth of a runner and in a previous episode of the podcast I was talking about um something that had been coming up with a client in the episode um 78 Breaking Free From Distractions I had talked about how you know we were if you want to do something it all it takes is like to do it right you just have to show up as that thing and and that's the reverse side of embodying so maybe you haven't owned the title of whatever it is that you want to do like I'm a chef maybe you haven't said I'm a chef but if you show up every day and you cook something and you show up in the energy of a chef then you are a chef and that's that right like you've that's the reverse side of it right we can either start with I am this thing and build the embodiment from there or we can begin to embody the habits and then move into the identity from that space so you can come at it at whatever way feels best for you um but I just think it's really interesting to kind of look at it this way because when our identities are that strong and they can be strong in both a positive and a negative way it really changes the way that we show up in the world and so going back to this discussion of like you know what would the version of you that has everything that you want be doing right now um it's just it's about really tapping into that idea of what you want and moving from that space so like for me this morning the version of me that I most want to be would not be sitting there feeling this way you know they she would be doing something differently she would be moving differently and so in that moment I said stop to this situation stop to the lack of clarity and the feelings of confusion and the feelings of whatever and not that I was negating them I was like sort of sitting with them I was trying to distract myself from them but I'm not negating that they were there I just decided okay but I actually want to move in a different way and I have the power to make that decision right now I can change something like that all it takes is me doing something different moving in a different way and so like that's the question that I want to ask you what would your next level version of you be doing right now you know would they be spending time the way that you do would they be allowing themselves to be distracted would they have your habits would they have your routine would they dress talk move or think the way that you do and it's not about getting down on ourselves we're never ever like punishing ourselves for the way that we feel like the confusion that I was feeling this morning led to feelings like of a little bit of like mild irritation and a little bit of frustration because it's like I don't really want to feel this way blah blah but I wasn't like punishing myself like the action that I decided to take by getting up and actually recording this podcast now because I've had this idea is not to punish myself it's because no actually the version of me that I most want to be would get off her butt and she'd do something differently like she probably wouldn't be in this position in the first place because maybe she'd be feeling better to begin with so then it's my job now to begin to feel better in this instance right and like that's the thing we have that kind of control we can begin to feel better now and it sounds like an oversimplification and it is if you don't know what will make you feel better so if you are not connected with yourself in such a way that you are really clear on what actually helps you what makes you feel better what makes you feel like you what makes you feel happier lighter freer whatever insert adjective here if you're not aware of what those things are then one I encourage you to really sit down and begin to have a conversation with yourself about what it is that lights you up getting really clear on what your values are like all of this is really really important because it helps kind of move you along the process right it helps you get really clear on like what's next because if my values are x and I'm doing a I would be better off feeling like my values are x and doing x something that is directly connected to or related to my values right and so it's about really beginning to move differently and once you know yourself and once you're clear on your values you're clear on what you want you're able to begin embodying whatever identity that you want and one thing I would say is that it's really important for you to get clear on what identities you're embodying now so are you embodying a sad girl identity or are you embodying like you know uh maybe a lazy identity are you basically in what ways are you allowing yourself to not show up as the version of you that you ultimately want to be you'll notice this in any aspect of your life where you feel discomfort where you feel discomfort something is out of alignment discomfort in in the sense of not being afraid of something because oftentimes when we're afraid it points us in the direction that we need to go discomfort more along the lines of like unease dissatisfaction feeling a little bit down feeling a little bit off where you're feeling those feelings it means that you're moving in a way that is not aligned with the highest version of yourself in this current moment I'm not even talking about your future self I'm not talking about your next level self I'm talking about who you are in this moment the highest version of you in this moment if you're feeling a little bit it's probably because there is some kind of disconnect between who you are being the way that you're acting the thoughts that you're thinking the beliefs that you're believing so your mindset aka mindset um in this moment versus what the highest version of you in this moment needs wants craves desires values believes okay um and so like it's all just about constantly shifting and moving into alignment it might sound like a lot of work and I'm not going to say that it's necessarily like the easiest thing in the world I think it's extremely simple I don't think it's necessarily easy but we also get to tell ourselves another story about that like we can begin to embody the energy of well this is easy for me you know it gets easier and easier every time every time I show up as the version of myself that I most want to be it gets easier and easier and my life gets better and better every time I make that decision and I get clearer and clearer every time I do those things right we can tell a story about the story that's what we're doing our whole lives are stories about stories about stories stories on stories on stories that's all it is so everything that we're that we're experiencing now is fundamentally a story that we have told ourselves about what is true about us about the world and about the way that we move and we can decide to tell a different story and if this is something that maybe you understand on an intellectual level but you're having difficulty putting into practice reach out to me because we can have a conversation about what this looks like for you like how to actually move in the world or how to actually make these shifts because sometimes all it takes is somebody reflecting your stories back to you for you to go whoa I didn't even realize that I was thinking that I didn't even realize that that's what I was telling myself right and being really mindful of just the identities that you are currently embodying and whether or not those identities are actually serving you and like everything and anything can be an identity okay I want you to think for a second about how many times in your lifetime you've said I am so stupid oh I'm so stupid I say it to myself all the time it's something that I still struggle to like undo because I've spent 30 some odd years doing this but every time we say that that too has an impact like those moments because they get repeated over time have an impact and so it's about rewriting even the simplest of stories into something that genuinely serves us something that moves the needle forward and something that gets us where we ultimately want to be.
So what is your next level self doing right now?
After listening to this podcast what do you know that you need to do in order to live and embody and identify as your next level self?
What's the next step?
What's the change in routine?
What's the change in habit?
Do you need to go get something or put on a different outfit to feel a little bit better or how are you going to change the way that you speak about yourself and to yourself right?
It's all about these tiny little micro changes that along the way build up into an entirely different life and an entirely different story and if you have any questions about this please reach out because I would be happy to chat with you.
Yeah this is where I leave you.
So I hope this episode was useful if you have any comments critiques questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
I yeah I'm so grateful for you being here I'm so grateful for you listening each and every week it just means the world to me and I'm grateful to you also for being on this journey because when you sit in this energy and you're questioning the the the kind of instinctual ways that you've been moving for your whole life on earth and you begin to shift that it gives other people permission to do the same thing you're just you're unlocking next levels and next stages for for yourself and for other people and you are inviting people into that process and into that change and every time we do something like that that creates a ripple effect in the world and so one micro change within you creates helps produce or induce a micro change in someone else and then that touches their circle and so on and so forth and this my friends in my opinion at least is how we change the world so kudos for you kudos to you and I'm super grateful for you being here listening doing the work being on your path and and doing all the wonderful things that you're doing in the world.
So yes I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will see you on the next episode of the podcast.
Ciao!
