Hi,
I'm Brad from B-Side.
Let's take a moment to slow down,
Reflect,
And reconnect with ourselves as we transition out of the workday.
This meditation is good for any workplace,
Whether you're in a traditional office,
A home office,
Or any space where you've been working today.
It's important to create a ritual that signals to your body and mind that the workday is over.
Research shows that clear boundaries between work and personal life reduce stress,
Improve focus,
And enhance overall well-being.
By marking the end of your workday with intention,
You can create space for rest and renewal.
This 5-minute meditation is designed to help you release the mental clutter of the day,
Let go of any lingering stress,
And ease into your evening with a sense of closure and calm.
The meditation will begin at the sound of the bell.
To begin,
Find a comfortable position.
Place both feet flat on the floor,
Resting your hands in your lap or on your desk,
And gently close your eyes or lower your gaze.
We're going to start with a few physiological sighs.
Begin by taking a deep breath in through your nose,
Hold for a moment,
Then take a second,
Smaller inhale to fully expand your lungs.
Now exhale slowly and completely through your mouth.
Let's repeat this together two more times at your own pace.
Great job.
Now let your breath settle into its natural rhythm,
Moving in and out effortlessly.
Shift your awareness to your body,
Noticing any sensations or areas of tension.
Starting at the top of your head,
Relax your face,
Unhinge your jaw,
Let your shoulders drop away from your ears,
Soften your chest,
Release any tightness in your stomach,
And continue down through your hips,
Thighs,
And legs.
With each exhale,
Let go of any gripping or holding you find in the body.
Now let's return our awareness back to the natural rhythm of the breath,
Bringing our attention to either the rise and fall of the stomach or the sensation at the nostrils.
Reflect for a moment on the work you've done today.
Without judgment,
Acknowledge your effort,
Whether everything got finished or not.
You showed up,
You worked hard,
And that's enough.
On an inhale,
Say to yourself,
I did,
And on the exhale,
Say to yourself,
Enough.
I did enough.
I did enough.
If any unfinished tasks or lingering worries come to mind,
Imagine placing them into a box.
Close the lid tightly,
Knowing you can come back to them tomorrow.
Picture that box being set aside,
Freeing you to transition out of your workday.
Cal Newport,
Author of Deep Work,
Suggests creating a clear boundary between work and personal life by tidying up your desk and saying out loud,
I'm done for the day.
This simple ritual not only helps you transition mentally,
But also reinforces a sense of closure,
Paving the way for better balance and well-being.
In our mind's eye,
Say,
I'm done for the day.
As the meditation comes to a close,
Begin to widen your awareness.
Notice the sounds around you,
Hum of the room,
Distant voices,
Or the silence itself.
You can bring light movement by wiggling your toes,
Flexing the fingers,
Or rolling the shoulders.
The meditation will end at the sound of the bell.
Now,
Let's embody this advice.
Take a moment to tidy your workspace,
And when you're ready,
Say out loud with intention,
I'm done for the day.
Let these words anchor you as you step out of your work mindset and into your personal time.
Thank you for pausing with me today.
This small act of mindfulness can make a big difference in how you transition out of work.
If you can,
Consider setting aside the last 10 minutes of your workday as a daily ritual to care for yourself.
You've earned it.
