Use this short ten minute meditation to enable yourself to relax deeply by leaning into and opening up to receive support and the felt sense of being deeply held. You will use either the image of resting on the earth, or resting in the lap of the Great Mother to support this sense of being held tenderly.

Take the time here at the outset of your practice to arrange yourself with as much support as possible.

If you are able to lie down completely,

Take the time to set up a beautiful nest for yourself to rest in and otherwise arrange your comfort in whatever way you are able to.

And as you settle yourself in,

Feel yourself release and let go into the support that you've cultivated for yourself already here at the beginning of your practice.

And then take a full deep breath in and let it go with an audible sigh,

Clearing and releasing the first layer of tension that you are aware of.

And as that first layer releases,

Notice where there is some residual,

The places that are still holding on,

Gripping or resisting your rest.

And use these next few breaths to clear that tension,

Watching the breath move in and wrap itself around the places that you feel tension or holding within your body and letting the exhale sweep them out.

And now however you have arranged yourself,

As this practice continues you will envision either being nestled into the earth or being cradled in the lap of the Great Mother.

Whichever version works for you,

Feels most resonant for you,

Is perfect.

And into that form of support that you have chosen,

Now let yourself go intentionally release yourself into being held in the same way that you so lovingly,

Generously hold others physically,

Energetically,

Emotionally and mentally.

You now allow yourself to be held here,

To drop all of your burdens,

To alleviate yourself of all that you are holding and carrying,

Even if just for the space and time of your practice.

You let yourself put that weight down and into whichever form of support you've chosen,

Feel your next breath drop you deeper into that safe and cherishing space,

Knowing how deeply loved and held you are in this moment.

You feel that space receive you more fully and completely,

Knowing that you are safe to be exactly as you are,

That you are safe to feel exactly as you do in this moment,

That you are held,

Cradled and loved through whatever rises up to the surface.

Let your attention drop another layer deeper within yourself,

Gently but intentionally exploring your inner landscape,

Feeling into the physicality of this body and noticing if there is any tension still remaining here and where you meet it you offer it into the support that you are being held by.

You let it dissolve into that support and then you turn your attention to the landscape of the mind to whatever thoughts come up and if any of them spark attention in your system you let them go.

You release the grip and you let them simply float along as you drop back into being held,

You drop back into receiving and then turn that exploration into the realm of the emotional and energetic heart,

Noticing if there's any heaviness or stagnation or weariness here and where you find it you once again entrust it to the space that is holding you now.

You alleviate yourself of it right here and now there is no need for you to hold it,

To carry it,

To bear it.

And you let yourself simply now rest into that loving,

Whole,

Complete,

Embracing support that there's nothing you need to do but simply be exactly as you are so safely and lovingly held.

You can choose to remain here being tended to by the earth or the Great Mother for as long as you wish or for as long as you feel able to and when you are ready you can complete your practice with some deep breaths and gentle movement at your own pace and in your own timing.
