This is a japa style meditation,

So if you have a mala you would like to use,

Make sure you have it on hand before you get comfortable.

We begin by coming to a comfortable seated position to signify the start of our meditation practice,

Taking a moment to settle in and make any small movements brought on by the mind.

Lengthen up and out to the crown of the head,

Finding a tall and natural curve to the spine.

Ground down through your seat and feel that familiar supportive connection to the surface you find yourself on.

Rest your hands gently wherever feels most natural to you,

Palms facing up and open,

Inviting in the energy of the space around you.

Here we begin to move into stillness.

Shifting awareness now to the breath,

The system through which you may feel a constant and direct connection to life.

Here we begin to cultivate a full embodied breath by breathing slowly through the nose and deep into the abdomen,

Allowing it to gently expand outward in all directions.

Into the belly,

Sides of the body,

The back and the ribs.

We pause at the top of our inhalations and then reverse this pattern,

Feeling what just expanded now contract as we release the breath outward.

Feeling this for the next few moments.

Today,

We are working with the mantra Om Sri Ramaya Namaha for our Japa meditation practice.

Om Sri Ramaya Namaha is a mantra that is used to honor Lord Rama,

A God and incarnation of Vishnu.

Lord Rama is known by devotees as the one who rejoices and brings joy as well as peace and justice to the world.

Chanting the mantra is said to engender in the yogi God consciousness and a connection to divine truths and blessings.

Om Sri Ramaya Namaha can be translated and interpreted from Sanskrit as salutations to Rama,

The bestower of happiness,

Inner peace and balance.

May your warrior energy,

Inner focus and personal integrity reside within me.

Follow along with me either verbally or internally as we repeat this mantra 108 times together.

The pattern will be a slow inhale followed by one repetition of the mantra on the exhalation until we are finished.

Inhale completely.

Inhale to begin.

Becoming only a memory.

Maintain your posture,

Maintain your inward focus.

Within the Om Sri Ramaya Namaha mantra,

The word Rama can be considered to denote God and therefore be unlimited.

It refers to the God himself as well as the divine spirit within every being.

The two syllables separately,

Ra and Ma,

Represent the masculine and feminine energies located in the left and right sides of the body.

Therefore some believe that the mantra is helpful for bringing masculine and feminine energy within the body into balance.

To close the practice,

We bring the hands together at the heart and then raise them up bringing the backs of the thumbs to the area of the third eye.

I thank you for this time together and hope to share our practice with you again soon.

Om Sri Ramaya Namaha.

Namaste.
