Hello,
My name is Brayden McKenzie and welcome to Into Stillness.
This is a Japa style meditation,
So if you have a mala you would like to use,
Make sure you have it on hand before we get comfortable.
We begin by coming to a comfortable seated position to signify the beginning of our meditation practice.
Taking a moment to settle in and make any small movements that the body desires.
Slowly begin to find stillness.
Once there,
Taking some time to scan the body and release any areas of tension so as to find more relaxation and ease in your posture.
Areas like the muscles of the face and the shoulders,
The arms,
Hands and feet.
Use your breath to inhale into each area and with your exhale,
Relax them.
Begin to move the focus inward,
To the sensation of your breath moving through the body.
Feel your breath as it flows in through the nose and deep down into the lungs.
Hold its cadence and bring balance to the movement of air and the energy it carries.
Today we are working with the mantra AUM for our Japa meditation practice.
AUM is a combination of three primal sounds that are said to contain all of creation.
A the sound of Vishnu the preserver,
U the sound of Brahma the creator and M the sound of Shiva the destroyer.
While chanting this mantra it is important that one is aware of the natural vibrations of this sound as it moves from your navel to chest and finally to the throat,
Repeating each sound with equal weight.
Follow along with me either verbally or internally as we repeat this mantra 108 times together.
Exhale completely.
Exhale to begin.
AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM AUM Let the repetition fade from your mind.
Sit in silence and find stillness.
Your focus now becoming the observation of your breath.
The yogis tell us that creation is a complex reverberation of energy.
This energy,
Oscillating in different ways,
Is why we are able to experience so much variation within creation.
An intelligent amalgamation of sound is the true nature of existence,
And the root sound for this intelligent amalgamation is the sound AUM.
To close the practice we bring the hands together at the heart and then raise them up bringing the backs of the thumbs to the area of the third eye.
