Om Namaha Shivaya--Expansion of Consciousness This mantra is very old and considered one of the most useful and powerful Sanskrit mantras. It helps us see our higher deeper or more spiritual sides of ourselves--when done with the proper focus and intention, it will gently lead us towards awareness of our bliss nature. With this mantra, it is important to be gentle with our intention, attitude, and focus. Think of opening yourself to a new experience but expecting nothing at all.

Welcome to practice.

In this practice we'll be working with the onnama shivaya chants.

First we'll be engaging our spine breath.

Then we'll be chanting out loud.

Then we'll be internally chanting.

We'll be chanting for a moment.

Then we'll end our practice.

Find your comfortable seat.

If that's not possible you may lie down.

For most practice,

But definitely all chanting practice,

We want to put the body in a comfortable position where you can relax your shoulders and neck and feel a sense of pranic flow throughout the body.

We want the mantra to work on the mind but also in the pranic body as well.

So we try not to be in the way of that.

We'll begin with engaging the spine breath.

As you breathe in,

Breathe in through the nose and feel the energy descend down the front of the spine down towards the pelvic floor.

Then as we exhale,

Up the front of the spine all the way out the top of the head.

We'll take several breaths like that.

We'll sit with the spine breath for a few minutes.

Inhaling and exhaling and beginning to feel and get in touch with the awareness of the central channel.

The prana flow that's already there.

Next time you exhale,

Follow that breath up the front of your spine and just land in the midbrain.

So that's the third eye.

Imagine the space between your eyebrows but more in line with your spine in the middle of your body.

There's an easier spot for you to concentrate like actually in between your eyebrows or a little in front of you that's fine as well.

Let your awareness really gently rest there.

We'll use that for an internal point of focus as we chant.

We'll be chanting Om Na Ma Si Va Ya with that awareness for a little while.

Then we'll be doing that internally.

Om Na Ma Si Va Ya,

Om Na Ma Si Va Ya,

Very slowly allow your eyes to open.

Take in the room very slowly.

Let the light come in.

Notice the feeling in your body right now.

Try to let that just be,

Not shifting it at all.

Bring your right hand over our heart and our left hand over our right.

Bring your head to your own heart.

Om Namah Shivaya.

With great respect and love,

I honor my heart,

My inner teacher.

Namaste.

Bowing to the floor.

I am Shanti.

Om Peace.
