Upregulating Breathwork For Releasing Blockages
by Bodhi Samuel
This experience is for those who are experienced in upregulating breath work and trauma release. This is a very powerful breathwork practice that has the ability to dislodge any blockages or trauma that resides in our cellular tissue. Having said that, be prepared, during this practice, for things to be shaken up or shifted around. If you have the space to rest in the discomfort of what may come, this practice is for you. If at any point, you need to pause or rest, simply return to a soft breath
Transcript
Hello wonderful people.
Welcome to this breathwork session today.
So recently I was inspired to give a Wim Hof style method of breathwork.
Wim Hof is an awesome guy.
Check him out online if you haven't heard of him.
They call him the Iceman.
He has developed a breathing technique in conjunction with submerging yourself into water.
Very very cold water.
A way to kind of take control to some degree of our autonomic nervous system.
The nervous system that basically kind of does all the work behind the scenes that we don't control.
The heart beating,
Regulating our blood and temperatures and everything.
So this technique is a very powerful technique in kind of just moving things around the body.
It's a bit intense.
I want you to know that I will be guiding today's technique.
But if at any point you're feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable or anything happens and you aren't feeling good.
First of all you are totally safe.
This is just the breath.
But if you are feeling overwhelmed at any time you can stop following my voice and just breathe normally.
Once you start breathing normally everything will come back and settle down.
So just be very clear that I am not doing anything to you.
I'm not doing the technique to you.
You are in full control of your body.
Having said that there are things during this technique that does get intense.
What does intense mean?
We often feel some sensations in our hands.
We can feel very tingling in our hands,
In our lips,
In our feet,
Maybe in the extremities.
There might be tingles or more intense sensations.
It should never really be painful but it may be uncomfortable.
That's totally expected.
Feel free to push through.
I would recommend.
Maybe encouraging yourself to go a little bit deeper and continue on.
See what it feels like to push through that discomfort.
Again,
If anything feels too uncomfortable this is just an invitation.
As we go the way this will look is we will do about three rounds of breath.
The way that will work is you breathe in through your nose 100% in.
So all the way in.
For your lungs full capacity you expand the stomach and chest.
Instead of pulling your shoulders up toward your ears when you breathe in you expand the belly and the chest.
To the full capacity and then as you exhale you exhale through the mouth.
You don't push the air out you just let the air come out on its own about 60% of the breath.
Inhale 100% in.
Exhale.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Inhale.
You almost catch the breath before it reaches the end of the exhale.
Inhale 100% and exhale.
We alkalize the body.
It's a really interesting experience.
The first probably 10 or 20 breaths you'll start to feel maybe a rush of oxygen or movement in the body.
It's totally normal.
Just keep breathing and smile if you notice it.
After that first round what we'll do is we'll exhale all of the air out and try to hold the breath as long as we can out.
It's actually incredible how long you'll be able to hold your breath.
The first one we'll do probably for a minute and a half and then we'll do two more rounds and we'll hold it out for maybe two minutes then two and a half.
Again if at any point you're like oh I need to breathe breathe you're free do whatever you need to do.
If you want to hold it for longer that's cool too.
Join in when you want to join in.
If you're feeling like I can actually hold it for another two minutes or one minute do it.
This isn't a test.
It is to push yourself but it's really just to explore your body.
Explore the ranges and just notice how you're feeling from time to time and from when it starts to when it ends.
It's a really powerful technique.
It's a really great way to start the morning.
Especially if you kind of wake up in a funk this is definitely a way to clean the slate and start a day kind of fresh and new and it's just the breath.
So having said that we'll start in just a moment.
So again it'll work like we inhale 100% in exhale 60% out inhale 100% in exhale 60% out.
After that first round and I'll give you signals I'll give you cues.
We'll exhale all of the air out hold the breath out.
And then we'll once we breathe we'll breathe the air back in and hold the breath in.
That'll be a shorter hold but we'll do that too.
You don't have to remember any of this.
I'll be guiding you the entire time.
And again feel free to go on your own cues.
If you want to listen to me I'll be guiding the entire thing.
You can breathe faster or slower than I'm giving you cues for.
So I'll be guiding the breath the entire time.
I'll be like inhale exhale inhale like that.
If you want to breathe slower that's totally cool.
It can technically come in any hole and out any hole.
But I'd recommend breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Just making sure when we breathe out through the mouth we're not pushing the air out.
We're just letting it come out naturally.
So let's do it.
I would heavily recommend laying down.
You can sit up if you'd like but I like to observe laying down.
So find a laying down position and just kind of relaxing your back.
You can open your hands.
You can place your hands like left hand can go on the heart.
Right hand can go on the stomach to help breathing.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
You can open your hands.
Finding a comfortable position.
Deep inhale exhale inhale 100 percent halfway out inhale halfway out full deep in halfway out in 60 percent out halfway in all the way in halfway out in.
The breath comes out on your own rhythm continue going the breath comes in and halfway out feeling oxygen coming into each and every cell.

This is under your control at any time if it's too intense you can pause you can breathe normally but if not we inhale and exhale.
Keep this rhythm moving.
The breath comes in pulling in and naturally let's go.
Feeling this life force moving through your body.

Notice any changes.
Any changes from just 25 minutes ago.
Any changes in the body and the mind.
Just notice.
Smile as you are back home in your body.
What happened?
What was that?
What sensations?
Was it comfortable?
Was it uncomfortable?
Just let it be.
How am I feeling right now?
Why?
Can you notice the impermanence in your body?
Can you feel it?
All the little changes,
The micro changes,
The little organisms.
The sensations blinking in and out in your hands and your feet.
So many sensations.
So many sensations.
Constantly changing.
Constantly changing.
No need to get attached.
They will all change.
You can see it.
Can you feel it?
Let's take five deep sighs out.
Let's inhale together.
Inhale.
Let it out.
Whatever sound you want.
Three more.
Two more.
One more.
And the next three to five breaths we can roll onto our right side.
Maybe stretching in that time that we take stretching our hands wide open the wings.
Stretch the legs.
Feel this new body that you have.
This new energetic body.
Refresh.
Rolling onto your right side.
Take a minute.
Place your hand,
Your left hand on your heart.
You can use your right hand as a pillow if you'd like.
And just send this message into your heart from your hand.
I got you.
We got this.
Sending a message to your mind from your hand.
We got this.
We are all responsible for the health and goodness of all of us.
Let's work as a team.
I'm ready to play.
This body,
This mind,
This energetic body,
This emotional body.
Let's start this day.
Let's start this new chapter.
Whatever is happening in your life right now,
Whatever is going to happen,
We have no idea.
We can always be ready.
Always ready to accept.
Always ready to come with love.
Always ready to be present.
To not get lost in the smoke around the fire.
To be in the fire.
To be with the fire.
Everything will be okay.
Let's very slowly come to a seated position.
The next two to three breaths.
Taking a deep inhale.
And exhale.
And pressing up to a seated position or laying down if you'd like.
I encourage you to do what feels good for you.
This is your body.
This is your life.
Do what feels good for you.
But if we're in a seated position,
We can bring our hands to heart center.
Bowing gently down.
In gratitude we have so much to be grateful for.
This beautiful earth,
This beautiful mind,
Body,
This beautiful connections around us,
The food we eat.
That's cool.
It's cool to find gratitude.
It feels so good.
It allows for flow in our body and our mind.
It allows us to be able to receive,
To keep receiving and not taking.
Not always scavenging.
I need more.
I need more.
You know,
Being open.
Showing gratitude.
Thank you.
Thank you for joining me today.
Thank you for letting me trust you.
For playing with me.
For trusting yourself.
Thank you.
Thank you for pushing yourself today.
And if pushing yourself meant resting,
Thank you for listening to your body.
If pushing yourself meant holding your breath for longer,
Thank you.
Thank you for seeing what you're capable of.
It doesn't matter.
If you're making a choice,
That's what's important.
Being present to make the choice to grow.
Even if growing is saying,
Hey,
I think I'm not ready to grow yet.
You're still growing.
Thank you all.
If you want to check out more behind the science and things like this,
I believe Wim Hof has a method on his website.
He definitely has training courses all over the world.
I heavily,
Heavily,
Heavily recommend checking it out.
And if you want to go take a super cold shower,
That can be a cool thing too.
If you want to go take a warm shower or go be nice to people,
That's super cool too.
Enjoy your new body.
Enjoy your new mind.
I love you wherever you are,
Whoever you are.
You are loved,
At least by me.
And that's pretty good.
I got a lot of love to give.
Have a beautiful rest of your life and life experience.
And remember,
Don't take it too seriously.
It's a really nice game.
Enjoy the game.

I appreciate the guidance at the beginning of this, it helped me not panic. I was uncomfortable at the beginning but accepted and eased into it and by the third round of breath I even enjoyed it and was smiling. I felt like I could actually breathe for once after this exercise, and the tension and pain in my shoulders and back melted away. Thank you.
