In The Flow With Lauri Albert: On Sadness
by Lauri Albert
Is it possible to create beauty out of sadness? Joy out of dirt? Sometimes we need a reminder to live in this present moment and just find a new perspective! Life is so much like a roller coaster. We can't appreciate the highs without the lows.

Good morning everybody and welcome to your morning meditation.
So today,
I'm just gonna tell you,
Because you know me,
I'm like upfront and honest about,
Well I try to be upfront and honest about everything,
Right?
I woke up a little bit on the,
Let's just say negative side of the bed this morning.
I just,
Well I didn't sleep well,
Blah blah blah,
Whatever,
Right?
We all have those issues sometimes,
Right?
And things happening,
Right?
And I thought to myself,
You know,
It's okay to feel sadness.
It's okay to feel sort of under the weather emotionally sometimes.
It's okay to do that.
It's okay to feel that way.
And you know,
I mean I'm not trying to say that,
You know,
Sadness doesn't have its place for,
You know,
Therapy and medication and all that stuff.
That's not what I'm saying at all.
But for me,
Who just occasionally wakes up on the sad side of the bed or the,
You know,
The negative side of the bed,
Sometimes I just need those little reminders or those little tweaks,
You might say,
Just to get past the haze,
Right?
Especially right now,
You know,
Even those of us,
Yes,
I am I mean I call myself a happy medium,
So but I even though I am a happy person generally,
I sometimes wake up and I'm like,
Oh my gosh,
Really?
You know,
I mean stuff will like come to me and it won't be happy,
Right?
I mean we all have that.
But I think the question is for those of us that that aren't,
You know,
Clinically depressed and that sort of thing,
For those of us sometimes I think we just need that reminder,
Right?
And this morning,
Oh my gosh,
Well actually it wasn't this morning that this really took place or whatever,
But um so I was getting my spirit room ready,
You know,
Now's a good time to do that,
Right?
I wasn't happy with the energy in the room,
Right?
So and you guys,
If you know me at all,
You know that that's how I kind of roll,
Right?
Energy and like the energy of whatever it is I'm doing supersedes everything,
Right?
So I sage the room,
I get rid of like the big dark things,
And I try to get myself into a place of,
Get myself into a place of like getting rid of all of the stuff with maybe not such great energy to it or whatever,
Right?
So pretty much everything's gone.
I'm feeling good about the room and all of a sudden I looked over and it still looked dank in here,
You know?
And I looked over and I saw that the windows were dirty and I thought,
You know,
Let's try it.
Maybe it's the windows that are dirty.
Maybe that's the problem.
So I get my stuff and I go outside and I clean the outside of the window,
Right?
And it was dirty,
Right?
It was really dirty.
So then I come in and I thought,
Okay,
If I'm doing this,
Might as well do the inside of the window too.
So I did the inside of the window as well.
I have to tell you,
It created such a difference.
A huge,
Huge difference.
Sometimes all we need to do is change the way that we see things.
Get rid of the haze.
Get rid of the dirt.
And it changes your perspective greatly.
I mean,
I love my room now.
I spend a lot of time in here,
Right?
Did you guys know that the lotus flower,
To me,
One of the most beautiful flowers in the world.
It's one of the most beautiful flowers.
It opens up and it's just so beautiful.
It grows in mud.
Its roots are firmly entrenched in mud.
Isn't that interesting?
So like,
If you think about it,
We need the mud sometimes in order for us to appreciate the beauty,
Right?
I mean,
It's kind of like a roller coaster.
You got to have the highs in order to have lows in order to have the highs again.
But I think what it's mostly about is then appreciating the moment right now.
The right now moment.
That's the way to do it.
So let's get ourselves ready for meditation.
Oh,
I have a fun mantra today,
As I always do,
Right?
Okay,
So everybody get your blankies out.
Get your butt comfy in your chair or on the floor.
Sometimes I meditate.
I have a setup on my floor.
Sometimes I meditate on the floor.
Sometimes I meditate in my chair.
Wherever you feel the most comfortable.
Okay,
And let's get ourselves situated in a beautiful way so that we can have a very comfortable and impactful meditation.
I'm all about words today.
I'm not quite sure what that's about.
Words are important.
We have to choose them carefully,
Right?
So as we get ourselves ready,
I'd like for us to consider,
Yes,
Our morning gratitude.
What are three things that you're grateful for today?
Three things,
Two things,
One really great thing.
Just let's get to get us started on this really going to be beautiful day.
What's one thing that you're grateful for?
What is that?
I am grateful for my room.
I'll have to show you guys pictures at some point.
I'm very grateful for my new space.
It feels so beautiful.
It feels loving in here,
You know,
So I'm very grateful for that.
What are you grateful for?
Consider that.
So as we're thinking about that,
Let's gently let our eyes float closed.
Let's take a nice long deep breath in through our nose and then out through our mouth and as we take that inhale of breath,
Let it go to every cell in your body and when you've inhaled as much as you can,
Inhale more and hold it and let it out.
What a beautiful way to start to relax in the morning.
It's a perfect way to begin to relax in the morning.
Let's take another nice deep breath in and hold it and release.
Beautiful.
Great job.
And today as we consider the highs and lows of life,
The beauty and the dirt,
Let's consider that sometimes the mud going through the mud can help us see and appreciate the beauty.
So today's mantra that we will meditate with is true to this theme and the mantra is,
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
That means in Sanskrit,
The present moment is my true self.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
The present moment is my true self and right now I am happy.
I am whole.
I am relaxed.
I am calm.
Samprati hum.
Right now at this particular moment,
At this particular second in your life,
All is well.
Right?
All is well.
Samprati hum.
This present moment is my true self.
If you find yourself wandering from the mantra,
That's absolutely okay.
If you find yourself falling asleep,
That's absolutely okay.
Just let's bring ourselves back to our mantra and the present moment.
Samprati hum.
I will keep the time and let's begin.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Samprati hum.
Let's start bringing our awareness back to our bodies.
And we can relax our mind a little bit.
Let's take a nice long,
Slow,
Deep breath in through our nose and out our mouth.
And hold it and release.
Whenever you feel comfortable,
You can open your eyes.
And know that we are in this present moment right now.
We are experiencing this world together right at this moment.
Even if you're listening to this later,
That's what's so cool.
We're still experiencing it together.
I love that.
I just love talking about all of that stuff.
It's really fun.
So I wish you all a beautiful,
Beautiful day.
And remember to just love yourself today.
And know that the highs and the lows all go together to create a beautiful life.
I love you all.
Namaste everybody.
Have a beautiful,
Wonderful day.
