Hi,
My name is Jordana and today we're going to do a meditation for self-soothing in times of uncertainty.
You might currently be feeling the physical and energetic effects of global uncertainty,
Uncertainty in your work,
In your community,
With your family,
Loved ones,
With yourself.
What I want to invite us into today is a soothing practice because it's a lot.
A few months ago,
I was in Thailand when the coronavirus pandemic became global news.
Airport shutdowns were happening with little to no notice and I was faced with a decision.
Would I pack up and leave or would I stay and ride out the uncertainty from where I was?
When I tried to make the decision,
I couldn't get in touch with my heart.
What I noticed was a rapid heart rate and an unprecedented level of anxiety inside of me.
I knew I couldn't make a rational decision in this state.
It was through a practice of self-soothing,
Applying the medicine of loving words and energy towards myself,
That allowed me to relax enough to consciously choose my own best possibility.
So let's do this practice together.
Wherever you are,
You can begin by establishing safety.
Just glancing around your space and noticing what's over your right shoulder.
Looking up and down.
And then looking over your left shoulder.
Looking up and down.
And then looking out into your space.
Looking up towards the ceiling or the sky.
And looking down.
Establishing that you are here,
Ready to begin.
Let's take a deep breath together.
Breathe in,
Fill up the belly.
And then open the mouth.
Let it go.
Let's take two more breaths.
Breathe in,
Fill up.
Open the mouth.
Breathe in,
Take in fresh energy.
And then exhale.
Relax your eyes to close.
Let your body settle in the position you've chosen.
And drop your awareness down into your root at your pelvis.
And feel the connection points of your pelvis,
Your hips,
And the earth or the chair beneath you.
Feeling solidly grounded here.
As if you could take energy in and up from the contact points of your root,
Your hips,
Your pelvis.
With the earth up into your body.
Let it travel up the spine,
Down the arms to the hands.
Just taking a few rounds of breathing in.
Letting the energy move up from earth.
And travel through the body as you breathe out.
Let your awareness rest on your breath now.
Simply breathing in.
And sweetly breathing out.
And throughout this practice,
If at any time you feel a need for a sigh,
Let yourself sigh.
We call this a sigh of relief,
A way to soothe our nervous system naturally.
You might even try it now.
As you breathe,
Imagine an energy of love.
This could be through picturing someone you know who loves you very much.
They can be someone who is in your life today.
Or maybe they've left their body but remain with you.
This could also be a vision of an angel,
A deity or god.
This could be a version of yourself.
Maybe you see a wise,
Loving intelligence that is here for you.
This person,
This energy,
You know that they want what is best for you.
And you know that they are here to support and to guide you.
And so as you breathe,
See if you can relax even just a little bit more knowing that this energy of love is present with you now.
Allow yourself to bring to mind the uncertainty or challenge that you're currently facing.
You might notice that as you bring it to mind,
There could be a tightening or tension that appears somewhere in your body.
And when you notice it,
Simply notice and label tension or sensation.
And come back to breathing and presence with this energy of love.
And as you breathe,
See if you can relax even just a little bit more knowing that this energy of love is present.
As you envision this energy of love,
This person being,
What do they share with you?
What words might they say?
In what way do they tell you that it's okay to be exactly as you are right now?
That you need not change anything at all about what you're feeling or experiencing?
How do they tell you or show you that you are so divinely loved and cared for?
How do they tell you that you are so divinely loved and cared for?
How do they tell you that you are so divinely loved and cared for?
How do they tell you that you are so divinely loved and cared for?
Maybe they've shared words with you,
A smile,
An affirmation or an energy.
Right here,
Imagine that all of these words,
This energy,
This intention of love that comes from this being here with you now can be woven into a blanket that wraps around your shoulders.
Allow this blanket to warm you in the feeling of being held.
Allow yourself to relax even just 5% more.
Right here,
You need not change anything at all.
It's okay to be and to feel exactly as you do.
Take a deep breath.
Let yourself sigh.
And then melt your mind into the space of your heart.
Nothing else to do.
No other way to be.
Just relax.
You are held.
You are cared for.
And any time you need some soothing energy,
You can imagine yourself wrapped in this blanket and you can let out a sigh.
And so if you are ready to come out of this meditation,
You can make some small movements of the fingers and the toes.
And maybe you can bring the corners of the lips up towards the ears to know that there is so much love inside of you and available for you.
So take one arm and wrap it around yourself,
Your right hand on your left shoulder.
And then your other arm to wrap around yourself,
Your left hand on your right shoulder.
Give yourself a squeeze.
Maybe even make a sound.
Mmm.
Ahh.
It's okay.
Take a deep breath.
And as you're ready,
Gently opening your eyes.
