So for this meditation,
We're going to explore some different senses.
So I may ask you to call to mind a taste,
A smell,
A touch.
And the purpose of this meditation is threefold.
Number one,
It's a powerful mindfulness tool to be able to activate different parts of your brain while still focusing on your breath.
And second,
It's to explore how we receive information.
So for intuitive purposes,
It's important to know how information reaches you.
For some people,
They might hear words in their mind's eye or get little flashes of insight in the form of symbols.
But you also might notice a strange smell or you might be asking yourself a question and it comes in the form of like a song just comes into your head.
So we're going to explore that further.
This is really great for developing gratitude and appreciation because as we move through things and we explore things that we enjoy,
Such as the taste of a good cup of coffee for those who like coffee or the sound of their favorite song or the smell of the ocean.
So as we call these things to mind,
We're having positive feelings.
We're grateful for these things and that's a good little immune system boost and it's good for our well-being.
So again,
This is a great mindfulness tool.
It's a great way for tapping into your intuition and it's good for developing positivity.
And I would encourage you after the meditation to jot down any notes that resonate for you or maybe even that you don't understand and you want to revisit later.
So we begin by either sitting or lying down.
Your hands can be resting in your lap or at your side.
Keeping the mouth closed,
Jaw relaxed,
You may want to bring the tip of your tongue up to the roof of your mouth and take gentle breaths in and out through the nose.
Your eyes can be open or closed.
If they're open,
Finding a gentle place to just gaze softly ahead of you.
Inhale and slowly exhale.
Relaxing the breath,
Relaxing your mind and relaxing your body.
So I'd like you to pretend it's early morning,
You've just awakened and I'd like you to imagine as you're getting out of bed,
Putting your feet on the floor,
Noticing the pressure of your foot on the floor,
Noticing what you feel beneath you,
Whether it's carpet or a hardwood floor.
Is it cool or warm?
Is it soft or hard?
Imagine you're stretching your arms out to the side,
Perhaps moving your neck around,
Whatever you normally do when you get out of bed to kind of stretch and wake up.
Take a moment to notice what's around you.
Now I'd like you to go to the door or wherever you're sleeping and you're going to go to breakfast.
And just a little thought when you open the door,
It doesn't have to be your normal breakfast place.
It can be any place and you're welcome to run wild with your imagination.
So open the door and walk through it and you're somewhere where you're about to have breakfast.
Notice where you are.
What are you seeing around you?
Are there people?
Are you out in nature?
Are you inside?
What do you see?
Now take a moment to notice the sounds and the smells.
Or someplace very quiet and private.
Do you smell different foods that are cooking or beverages that are being brewed or prepared?
Now wherever you are,
I'd like you to imagine that there's a walkway ahead of you.
You slowly start to walk down the hallway.
What you see,
What you hear,
What you smell.
Basically what you taste and feel.
Where are you in relation to whatever's going on around you?
Now at the end of this long walkway,
You notice a table and two chairs set up.
And as you approach the table,
You notice that it's covered with all your favorite breakfast foods.
They're everything that you enjoy and there's no reason why you can't enjoy them in this meditation.
So even if it's a food that maybe you wouldn't normally eat,
But you enjoy it,
We're going to take a moment to savor and enjoy.
And you notice as you take a seat at the table that somebody is sitting across from you.
Who is there with you?
Try to call to mind what they look like.
Perhaps if they wear perfume or essential oils or cologne,
You might notice a scent.
What do they sound like when they talk?
Perhaps you can reach out and touch their arm and feel what their arm feels like.
Now begin to enjoy this meal together.
Start by pouring yourself a beverage.
Doesn't matter what the beverage is as long as it's something that you enjoy.
Call to mind what it smells like,
What it tastes like.
Notice any textures.
Notice whether it's warm or cool.
And notice how you feel when you take in a beverage that you completely enjoy.
Now go ahead and put that beverage down and notice a food on the table.
Gather that food in any way that makes sense.
So in other words,
If it happens to be a bowl of some liquid,
You would prepare it in a certain way.
Or if it's something that you can simply pick up like a muffin,
Whatever it is.
And what I'd like you to do is notice what you feel on your fingertips,
On your hands as you bring it toward you.
What smells arise?
What it tastes like?
Perhaps what it sounds like?
If it's sizzling,
Maybe it's not or maybe there's a sound when you break something open.
And notice how it makes you feel.
As you sit back and take in the experience,
Take a final moment to just survey your surroundings.
Notice the person sitting across from you.
Noticing the foods.
And hopefully you're noticing foods that you enjoy,
People that you enjoy.
And just take a moment to savor having these things and having the senses to be able to experience these things.
And take a moment to be grateful for everything that had to go into having this meal in front of you from the people who grew the foods or prepared the foods and brought it to the table.
What are all the different ways that you can take these senses in and be grateful for them?
Now go ahead and relax your mind.
Gently guide yourself back to your breath.
Using the inhalation and the exhalation.
And as I pause here,
Continue to gently watch your breath.
And relax so that you're no longer watching your breath.
You're just simply being in this experience.
And when you're ready,
You can go ahead and open your eyes.
