Even when we're at our gentlest, we tend to make more effort in meditation than we need to, and this undermines our ability to find true calmness. In this guided meditation we begin with soft eyes, which helps calm the mind and creates an attitude of inner receptivity, and then we come to see how sensations make themselves known to the mind effortlessly. Having seen this, we can let the mind rest in a spacious and receptive state.

So just letting the eyes be soft as you settle in to this moment,

So having soft eyes just means allowing the muscles surrounding the eyes to be at rest and also letting the muscles within the eyes,

The muscles that control focus,

To be at rest as well,

So that the eyes are softly focused or perhaps even feel on the verge of being unfocused,

With soft eyes settling in to the body,

Just allowing all sensation to arise in awareness and just noticing how sensation arises effortlessly,

You don't need to make it happen,

It's just there,

You don't even need to seek it out,

If that's what you've been doing,

I suggest you just let go of that effort to seek out sensations,

Instead,

Just let the eyes be soft,

Let that trigger an openness and receptivity in your inner field of attention and notice how rich your experience is,

All of these sensations arising from all over the body effortlessly,

So just letting the mind rest,

The more you allow the mind to be at rest with soft eyes and an open and receptive field of inner attention,

The more sensation you notice,

The more sensation you notice,

The richer your experience and the more satisfying it is,

The more your mind is able to just rest,

Content,

Nourished and when I talk about the mind being at rest,

Aware of the richness of your experience effortlessly arising,

I mean the heart as well as the head,

So just seeing if you can be aware of the heart,

Of the richness of all these sensations arising,

Gladly and appreciatively resting with an awareness of the body and whatever else is arising and you can continue allowing the mind to be at rest with the fullness of your experience of gladness and appreciation,

And I'll ring a bell in a couple of minutes.
