Learn to embrace your pregnancy and bond with your baby. As you relax, imagine the pregnancy going smoothly. Allow this time of relaxation to surround you and your baby with a sense of calm and confidence.

Relaxation for a healthy pregnancy.

Begin by settling back into a comfortable position and let your head and neck be nicely supported.

Allow your breathing to become smooth and regular,

Just the right depth and just the right frequency.

Now take in a slow deep breath,

Breathe in and hold it.

And now breathe out slowly through slightly parted lips and just relax.

Let go,

Release all tension.

Allow feelings of relaxation to spread throughout your entire body.

Exprime yourself letting go,

Becoming quite calm and relaxed.

This time you are now taking is important because it's a way of taking care of yourself.

It will be a relaxing and quiet time for you to bond with the new baby growing within.

Enjoy this time.

It will help you to enjoy your pregnancy more thoroughly.

Realize that your mind influences your body.

Your mind can tell your body what to do.

So let your mind now go to your feet.

Begin with your toes,

Think of all the small muscles that enable you to move your toes and to make them curl under and the opposing muscles that make them bend back.

Just experience those small muscles now becoming very loose and relaxed.

Feel the calm and healing energy as it brings a pleasant feeling of relaxation into your toes and your feet.

This calm relaxation flows towards your heels and your ankles.

Allow the muscles,

The tendons and the ligaments in your feet to let go,

Becoming very pleasantly relaxed.

The ankles feel very loose and flexible as if they could bend very easily.

Yet it feels natural to let the relaxation flow and to allow the ankles to remain quiet and relaxed.

The calm relaxing energy is now beginning to flow into your lower legs.

Experience it as it flows along the fronts of your legs,

Up the sides and backs,

Moving into your calf muscles.

Allow the muscles in your legs to become very loose and pliable as they relax and let go.

The calm relaxation now flows into your knees.

The healing energy loosens the tendons and ligaments and allows them to become even more relaxed.

The knees feel flexible.

There is no stiffness,

No tension,

Only a feeling of comfortable relaxation.

Now allow the relaxing energy to flow from your knees up into your thighs.

Feel it along the front,

The sides and the backs of your thighs.

Enjoy the pleasant feeling as you experience these muscles letting go more deeply and completely.

If at any time as we move through the relaxation you notice any discomfort,

Permit yourself to change position and to make yourself more comfortable.

Now experience the healing relaxation as it moves into your hips and pelvic area.

In a gentle swirling motion,

The relaxation moves slowly along the sides of your hips and across your back.

The relaxation continues to flow gently to the front of your hips.

As the relaxation encircles your hips,

Experience the muscles,

Tendons and ligaments inside the hips just letting go,

Relaxing more and more.

Notice the comfortable feeling that comes with relaxation.

Enjoy that feeling.

Your internal organs are also relaxed and feel comfortable.

You visualize your baby growing in your uterus.

You see your child developing in a healthy way,

Becoming stronger,

Being well nourished.

You find that as you take time for this relaxation,

Not only do you benefit,

But your developing baby benefits as well.

Welcome the relaxation as it flows into your abdominal area from your hips and pelvic area.

Feel the quiet calm as the relaxation spreads into your lower back.

The muscles become loose,

Relaxed and pliable.

The flow of gentle relaxation begins to envelop your entire body.

The flow now moves into your chest area.

With each breath in,

A healing energy fills you and as you breathe out,

All tensions are released.

The lungs bring in the healing,

Calming energy and with each heartbeat,

This relaxing energy is sent throughout your entire body.

Let it fill your entire being,

Bringing to you and your baby a calm,

Soothing and relaxed time.

Finally the relaxation moves across your upper back and shoulders.

Your muscles continue to let go,

Becoming more deeply and completely relaxed.

Your breathing is effortless,

Just the right depth,

Just the right frequency.

Calm,

Relaxed.

And find yourself releasing all tension.

Now the relaxation moves from the base of your neck,

Across your throat and into your upper jaw.

Allow the muscles that hold up your jaw to relax more and more.

You will notice that your jaw will be tugged down slightly as you relax.

Continue to let the relaxation flow over your chin,

Over your lips,

Across your cheeks.

Feel the relaxation as it settles behind your eyes,

Allowing your eyes to rest quite comfortably.

The relaxation now moves over your forehead.

Feel the calming swirl of relaxation as it encircles your entire forehead and scalp,

Letting go,

Smoothing out.

The muscles become more deeply and completely relaxed.

The gentle flow of calming energy now drifts down the back of your head,

Smoothing out all the muscles in your neck and shoulders,

Letting go more and more.

As you continue to be enveloped by this sense of calm,

The relaxation begins to flow down into your arms.

As the muscles in your upper arms let go,

You feel the sensations of healing relaxation continue to flow.

Now into your elbows,

Your forearms.

The muscles smooth out more and more.

Release all tension from the muscles around your wrists and hands,

All the way down to your fingertips.

Allow your arms to become comfortable,

Heavy,

And relaxed.

As your arms become more deeply and completely relaxed,

Allow the blood flow to come more easily into your fingertips.

Welcome the warmth this relaxation brings.

Feel the healing relaxation as it encircles your entire body.

Allow the flow of relaxed energy to bathe all the organs and systems inside your body as well.

The brain,

The heart,

The lungs,

The stomach,

All of the organs are encircled by this calm,

Healing energy.

They are soothed as the relaxation flows within them.

The pleasant feelings of relaxation enable them to work more effectively,

Bringing to you and your baby a deeper feeling of health and relaxation.

Notice the feeling you have as you allow yourself to relax.

Some people experience a heaviness as they relax.

You may be feeling a heaviness in your legs or arms,

Perhaps the shoulders,

The eyelids,

Or the lower jaw may also feel heavy and relaxed.

Or you may experience just the opposite,

A feeling of being very light,

Almost as if you were floating.

Allow your mind to dwell on how good it feels to be so quiet,

So tranquil,

So pleasantly relaxed with nothing to bother or disturb you.

It's a wonderful feeling of well-being.

All your concerns,

Tensions,

And fears are gently melting away,

Dissolving and flowing out of your body.

They're being replaced by the healing energy that relaxation brings.

Take a few moments now and allow yourself and your baby to be filled and renewed by this healing relaxation.

If there are any areas of your body that feel uncomfortable,

Allow them to release a little more,

Replace the uncomfortable feeling with relaxation.

You find yourself enjoying your pregnancy and you look forward to your baby's birth.

You have been feeling healthy during this pregnancy.

Keeping your life in balance has been helpful.

You take time for your family and your friends.

And most importantly,

You take time for yourself to rest and just be quiet.

You give yourself time to bond with your child.

With this pregnancy comes a feeling of confidence.

You know that through Lamaze training,

The support of your spouse,

Significant other,

Family,

Friends,

And your medical team,

You are prepared.

See your pregnancy going smoothly,

As well as your labor and your delivery.

Following delivery,

See yourself recovering quickly and completely.

You are also confident that if you choose to nurse your baby,

This too will go smoothly.

You are confident in your ability as a parent.

If you have older children,

You prepare them ahead of time for the arrival of the new baby.

Continue to relax,

Breathing in,

Breathing out,

Feeling calm,

Feeling relaxed.

Allow this time to be a time of bonding between you and your new child,

The child within.

The more calm and relaxed you are,

The more calm and relaxed your child will be as well.

Now,

Gently bring your attention back to the even flow of your breath.

As you breathe in,

Breathe in an awakening energy.

And as you exhale,

Allow any remaining tension or fear to be released.

You may choose to end the relaxation now,

Or you may continue to relax on your own.

When you are ready to get up,

Begin to move your arms,

Stretch your legs,

Slowly open your eyes.

Come back feeling renewed and re-energized.

And now,

Continue to carry with you and your baby the sense of calm and relaxation that you just experienced.
