Transcript
Living with miracles.
The present moment,
This moment that we're in right now.
It never ends.
It is eternal.
Always here,
Always now.
And when we come into this space,
Really being here,
In this breath,
In this body,
This flow of now,
Something miraculous happens.
We begin to notice.
We notice the softer sounds around us.
The gentle,
Subtle vibration of being.
The presence of everything,
Animate or inanimate.
The presence of ourselves.
An awareness of just being.
No longer doing,
Just being.
This is a sacred place that we rarely visit.
We live in a very fast lane.
We are always coming and going.
Most of us have at least one to-do list,
And sometimes several to-do lists.
And it seems that as soon as we check something off,
Three more items somehow suddenly appear.
Because we're busy.
We are really busy.
And it's good to be productive,
To use our time well,
To accomplish our goals,
To feel that through our various activities we are creating a greater level of meaning in our lives.
But as time passes,
It's very easy to become so caught up in the whirlwind of our doing that we're never just being in the present moment.
What happens in this present moment is truly amazing.
It is ripe with the miraculous.
Miracles have been defined in past times as events,
Usually thought to be fabricated events or folklore,
Where something takes place that completely defies the laws of nature.
It is so impossible,
So supernatural,
That one feels they really would have to see it to believe it.
But there's a deeper definition of miracle that we can explore.
It involves opening to the extraordinary,
The extraordinary nature of ordinary things.
We don't need someone to walk on water before our eyes to witness a miracle.
The water itself,
If we can come fully into the moment with it,
Be fully present with the experience of being with and near water,
It's a miracle.
This is called attention,
The awareness of being in the present moment.
When we bring our attention to what's around us,
To where we really are,
And what we are actually experiencing,
Miracles begin to jump out at us.
There is something miraculous in almost anything we bring our attention to.
Water,
In a lake,
A pond or an ocean,
Is teeming with life.
The sun dances on its surface like a billion stars in ecstatic performance.
We can smell the water,
The salty air of the ocean,
The rich,
Fertile aroma of a lagoon.
We begin to realize that in breathing in this aroma,
We're actually taking in water vapor arising from the body of water that we are with.
Its essence,
Therefore,
The essence of this water is entering us.
We are becoming one with water just through the grace of breathing in.
As we deepen our awareness,
We begin to experience the element of water in our bodies,
The fluid coursing throughout our being.
Gentle clouds might float by,
White floating misty forms of water.
We notice the wetness of the earth beneath us,
The life living in the earth connecting with the water.
Just as we are one with water,
Water within us,
Water all around us,
We gaze at the back of our hand,
Noticing the veins on the back of the hand like rivers and streams and tributaries,
Our blood filled with water running,
Coursing,
Flowing through our hand.
We are in the moment.
It is all miraculous.
We think of the veins of water in the rivers of Mother Earth on all of the continents bathing us at all times.
It is miraculous.
Do you remember when you were a child,
The first time that you saw a rainbow or a butterfly,
A hummingbird or really looked at a flower?
Do you remember that sense of astonishment,
Of pure,
Overwhelming joy?
It was as if every cell of your being was so fully present with the experience that in some magical,
Innocent way,
You fully merged with the moment.
As children,
When we still possess this natural,
Instinctual sense of astonishment,
We can open to the mystery and wonder of all experiences,
The extraordinary nature of the ordinary.
This is being fully in the moment,
In the realm of endless,
Perpetual miracles.
And even once we are grown up,
This miraculous state of being is always here for us.
It surrounds us every day,
In every way.
From the moment we awaken,
Miracles abound.
The very first breath we take when our eyes open and every breath that follows.
Your next breath.
Your next breath.
Just notice what a miracle it is to drink in life.
Notice the deep peace when you release the breath.
Every in-breath,
An affirmation of your existence,
A gift from Mother Earth to you.
Every out-breath,
A surrender into peace,
A letting go.
Take a moment,
Right now,
And follow your breath.
Rising and falling.
As you continue,
Say a silent thank you for this gift of life.
Feel the breath flow through your entire being,
Right down to the tips of your fingers and your toes,
Filling all the outer edges of your body.
Feel or visualize the prana,
The life force,
Flowing through you,
Nourishing your tissues,
Your organs,
Muscles,
Bones.
Your breath like a wave,
A liquid golden wave of life,
Rising and falling,
Coming and going.
Just being.
The breath,
Every breath,
As miraculous as your first butterfly,
As stunning as your first rainbow,
Allowing yourself to be utterly astonished,
To be the child again,
To experience the breath for the very first time,
Every time you breathe.
Rising and falling,
Coming and going.
It's in this moment,
This endless moment of awareness,
That we find grace,
That we find revelation,
Rapture,
The pure,
Overwhelming,
Amazing joy of being.
We have slipped into the eternal moment,
Come home to now.
No longer a human doing,
But instead a human being,
A human being.
We can slip into this sacred space of being whenever we choose.
We can discover it again and again in the simplest of things,
In the daily experiences that we come to take so much for granted and easily overlook.
Our ordinary day is filled with such miracles.
The plants in our homes and neighborhoods are living,
Breathing beings.
The plants are taking in carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen.
We are breathing in that oxygen and it gives us life.
We are in a dance of existence with the plants,
Just as we are with the water.
Observe any plant closely for even a few moments and it becomes miraculous.
Its stems and leaves,
Its striations and colors,
Its buds and blossoms,
Its very presence.
Any plant,
Any tree,
Even a tiny weed growing up through a crack in the pavement,
Reaching for life,
Turning its face to the sun,
Surviving against the odds,
Making a positive statement,
An affirmation of life,
Unfolding a plain little flower,
Growing seeds,
Hoping for baby weeds to sprout,
Utterly content with its home in the crack of the pavement,
Willing to take the footsteps of passersby,
The wheels of cars rolling over it,
Finding a way to re-sprout if picked,
Affirming itself again and again.
An endless miracle.
Or the next meal of any natural food you choose to eat.
A carrot,
A piece of celery,
Spring squash,
Broccoli,
Apples,
Oranges,
Strawberries,
All stunningly beautiful,
Fragrant,
Filled with prana,
With life force,
About to become you,
About to merge with you and give its nourishment to your blood,
Your tissues,
Your muscles,
Bones and organs.
This blending,
This fusing,
This merging is miraculous and yet again confirms interdependence and the dance of oneness.
Slice open your vegetables or fruits and truly pay attention,
See what happens.
They will dazzle you with their color,
Their fragrance,
Their flesh and seeds,
Their shapes,
The way they feel in your hands,
The elegant organic symmetry,
The way the knife moves through.
And within this food is the power of the sun,
Our miracle that arises each morning,
Our star,
Around which we orbit at some 70,
000 miles per hour,
Spinning through the cosmos,
Its fire,
Its rays,
Its prana,
Providing our food,
Our light,
Our sustenance,
Our very life.
It is within us and within all things,
Just as the plants are breathing with us,
The water is coursing through us,
The sun is shining in us.
And we are still breathing in and breathing out,
Riding the miraculous wave of being.
We are humans,
Being,
Just being.
And in this being,
In this state of awareness,
Attention,
Presence and mindfulness,
We needn't look for miracles or reasons to be astonished.
They abound at all turns,
They fill our field of vision,
They are floating and dancing,
Breathing,
Pulsing,
Merging,
As are we,
As are we.
It is the true dance of life.
The invitation to be wholly engaged,
To be fully liberated,
To live with spirit.
To immerse ourselves in the pure,
Miraculous joy of being.
Simply being.

I felt blessed and grateful for this meditation that opened up all my receiving faculties of appreciation to see, notice everything as all miracle. Which they are, with reverence and total surrender to love of the universe. Thank you for this wonderful piece. I enjoyed it and bookmarked it to share.
