Begin again and again at the darkest,
Softest,
Safest place inside yourself.
Begin as a seed begins beneath the ground,
A seed that dropped to earth and has been embraced by the ground all winter long.
Feel the expanse of time behind you.
The expanse of winter that you are at the far side of now.
The expanse of restful time and the stillness which gives way to a new sensation now.
A fledgling sensation of curiosity about the world above and beyond.
As the cycle of time moves on,
The earth around you softens.
And as it softens,
It softens your edges.
The first spring rains beat on the earth above.
Crack the frozen ground.
Moisture trickles in,
Surrounds you,
Envelops you.
Begins to wake something within you.
The days are lengthening now.
You can't see it,
But perhaps you can feel it.
The hum of light on the ground.
That stirs and shakes something in you.
It's still early.
The spring has not fully arrived yet.
But as the shy sun peeks out onto the thawing land,
It awakens in you.
The wish to move and stretch.
As this seed lies still within the embrace of the earth.
The embrace that has felt so comforting,
So welcoming,
Begins to feel a little too tight.
A heavy blanket at the end of a long night.
As the spring tiptoes in.
Something in you wants to move.
The spark at your centre becomes a flame that flickers and dances.
Let the feeling of wanting to move spread from your centre all the way to the tips of your limbs.
The edges of your skin.
Rest in the very sensation of wanting to move.
Let it be as it is.
Nervous,
Excited,
Curious.
Uncomfortable.
Joyful.
Innocent and childlike.
Even as you rest in the moistening earth.
Make friends with yourself.
With the part of yourself that wants to be above the surface.
That has rested enough.
A part of yourself that will not fully exist without the light of the outside world.
Like a diamond that needs the sun in order to shine.
Like a petal that needs the soft touch of the wind and the rain and the light in order to unfurl.
Like a diamond that needs the sun in order to unfurl.
Follow the sense of movement.
Where it leads you and the pathways of your body.
Let the energy of it rush through you like a mountain spring melting.
Reveal in your body's ability to feel and shift and stir.
Knowing also that however much you move,
However much you reach upwards,
Turning your face towards the sun and the coming spring.
A part of you also remains rooted.
A part of you can always turn back to the stillness,
The solidness in the earth below.
Marking this moment in the cycle.
As the winter turns towards spring.
With the deepest part of yourself rooted in the embracing earth.
And the bravest,
Sweetest,
Softest part of yourself turned upwards towards the coming sun.
And the bravest,
Sweetest,
Softest part of yourself turned upwards towards the coming sun.
