Take this moment to settle,
To ground.
Turn to your breath,
Letting it be deep and wide.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Welcome to a hit of hope.
Do you have any character traits that can both help and hinder you as you make your way in the world?
Take for instance always needing to do things right.
A boss might love this trait,
But it can get a bit more dicey with a significant other or a child.
Or how about being a free spirit?
Going with the flow can make life smooth and easy and full of adventure.
But others might not know when or if you will show up or get done what needs to get done.
Inhale.
Exhale.
The list of traits that can both serve us and create problems is endless.
But there is one character trait that is associated with the Buddha that might help us Goldilocks our life and get it just right.
In sous-cience or lighthearted unconcern.
So the trick to life going well is smiling and not caring?
Well,
Not exactly.
Inhale.
Exhale.
Lighthearted unconcern requires absolute balance.
You have to let go,
But of the right things.
You have to be okay with what is.
Unburdened by expectations and habits,
Memories and fears.
Lighthearted unconcern means you are so present and balanced in this now that you can let it unfold as it will unfold,
Allowing it to be new and weird and wild and wonderful.
Inhale.
Exhale.
In sous-cience also asks us to build the good.
To get deep and rooted in the center of our being and take pleasure in being alive.
In sous-cience means loping after joy as seriously as a hound goes after the trail of something interesting and alive deep in the forest.
Inhale.
Exhale.
When life is hard,
Finding joy and delight can feel impossible.
When that happens,
Think pennies.
What is one tiny,
Tiny act you can do that might start you on the path to creating deep and profound change?
It might be smiling or dancing or watching or writing or reading something wise that describes so beautifully what it means to be human.
Inhale.
Exhale.
And it's never a one and done.
We keep practicing light-hearted unconcern.
We meet who we are and how we act with curiosity and we continually ask ourselves,
What can I do right now that will bring ease and balance,
Joy and pleasure?
Hold things lightly.
Let the tiny moments of life float on the current of your breath as you stay centered,
Open,
Smiling,
Living light right here,
Right now.
Be well.
