So,
I recently stumbled across a word,
Truing,
And as soon as I heard it,
Something in me sighed and said,
Yes,
Please,
Let's do that.
But why?
What was it about the word truing that created that reaction?
Well,
When I heard it,
I'd hit a rough patch again.
I felt like I'd lost myself,
My way.
Not only that,
But it felt like the universe was handing me all kinds of no's.
And isn't it always bewildering when we're feeling like we're trying to do the right thing,
Trying to answer the deep call inside,
And yet life hands us no after no after no?
Breathe into your body and center yourself.
For that is what truing is.
It has to do with this sense of dropping in deep,
Of aligning,
Which of course has me thinking about all the yoga I teach.
A pose out of alignment is frustrating and painful and can even be dangerous.
Teeth are gridded,
Breath is tight,
The whole body in a yoga pose out of alignment hums with tension and annoyance.
You can see it.
And the only thought is to get the heck out of that pose as soon as possible.
Breathe into your body.
Drop into your center.
When a body can find the right alignment,
The true alignment in a pose,
Why,
The effect is magical.
There is all this grounding and space.
The body is rooted,
Radiant.
There is no sense of fleeing.
There is only delight in expanding and being right where you are,
Right as you are.
That's what truing is,
Living in a way that isn't all grit and grim.
It's being true to you,
To all that you are,
And to aligning with the things in you that feel the most right and true,
To ground into those things more and more,
To revel in them.
Breathe into your center.
Breathe and stay.
Let's be clear.
Truing does not mean things will go your way all the time.
And truing is different than hope.
I recently read about how hope often has an outcome attached to it.
There's a particular thing we hope will happen.
And that's all well and good until the thing doesn't happen,
Or when we get all of those no's even when we are doing our darndest.
Unlike hope,
Truing is not an outcome.
It's a process,
Like balance.
It's never one and done.
It takes a consistent but never frantic checking in.
What are the conditions right now?
How can I,
From my truest,
Deepest self,
Meet whatever has arrived upon my path?
Truing reminds us of true north,
That gentle but real and steady orientation,
That pull that is always there,
Drawing us along our live light way,
Pulling us toward our most genuine selves,
Regardless of the outcome.
It is being more and more who we are,
As we are.
Breathe.
Center.
Live true.
Live light and shine.
