I'd like to invite you to stop just for a moment and turn inwards.
So find a comfortable seat,
Place your feet on the floor and sit back.
Let your back rest against the chair,
Active but relaxed,
Allowing your head to sit directly above your spine,
But not resting back on anything,
And tuck your chin in slightly to lengthen your spine.
Place your hands on your lap with the palms open and facing up.
For now,
You're here,
Exactly where you're supposed to be.
Now gently take your awareness and place it on your fingertips.
Without moving the fingers,
Just let your full focus rest there.
Stay with it.
After a moment,
You'll notice a tingling sensation beginning in your fingertips,
Like a humming or buzzing in the fingers.
Stay with it,
Allow yourself to really feel it.
Perhaps it's stronger in one side more than the other,
Or maybe it comes and goes.
Notice how your awareness of the feeling is linked to your attention.
That's your nervous system responding to your attention,
Your fingers preparing themselves for movement,
Responding to you turning inwards.
So often in our lives we're looking outwards,
Rushing to get somewhere or reach some goal,
Focusing on the outside world.
For now,
We're doing the opposite.
Moment by moment,
We're connecting the body,
The mind and the body just for a moment coming together.
If you notice yourself being distracted by thoughts,
That's completely normal and part of the process.
Just gently bring your awareness back to the fingertips as soon as you notice,
Back to the sensation.
Now,
Keeping your awareness on your fingertips,
Gently and without effort,
See if you can also take your attention to your toes.
Can you feel that same tingling sensation?
Perhaps it's stronger on one side or the other.
Maybe your fingers feel it more.
That's okay.
Just notice what you feel and then see if you can spread that feeling to the rest of your hands and your feet.
Allowing it to spread up the arms,
Up the legs.
Now,
Gently letting it spread across your chest and throughout your body,
Your whole body and your awareness,
Noticing what that feels like.
A deeper feeling of relaxation beginning to emerge.
Maybe you'll feel an openness or a softening in your body,
A feeling of just being,
Of letting go.
Just notice how it feels,
Not trying to change it or hold on to anything,
Only that awareness of your body.
If your mind wanders,
Just gently bring it back to the experience,
Reminding yourself and giving yourself permission to be here.
I am exactly where I planned to be.
There is nowhere else to be.
There is nothing else to do.
This is it.
Only now is real.
And now,
Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes,
Slowly returning movement to the body.
In a moment,
Gently blink your eyes open and when you do,
Keep your eyes soft just for a few moments as you come back into this space.
Not looking at anything in particular for a moment.
Just sitting and noticing how you feel after turning inwards just for a moment.
