Transcript

This is a guided meditation on impermanence.

Find a quiet space where you can sit or lie down comfortably.

Close your eyes if it feels safe or soften your gaze.

Take a few deep breaths,

Inhaling deeply and exhaling fully,

Allowing yourself to settle in the present moment.

Bring your attention to your body.

Feel the ground beneath you,

Stable,

Supporting you.

Notice the natural rhythm of your breath as it flows in and out.

With each exhale,

Letting go of any tension you may be holding.

Now,

Bring to mind the idea of impermanence.

Everything around us,

Within us,

And about us is in constant motion,

Constantly changing.

Consider how the breath itself is a reflection of this truth.

Each inhale arises,

And each exhale fades away.

No breath is impermanent.

Now,

Turn your attention to the sensations of the body.

Notice how some sensations appear,

Shift,

And disappear.

Perhaps you feel a tingling in your fingers,

A warmth in your chest,

Or the feeling of air against your skin.

Each sensation is fleeting,

Arising,

And dissolving.

Picture a tree in your mind,

A tree that experiences all four seasons.

See its vibrant green leaves in spring,

Its fullness in summer,

The changing colors of autumn,

And its bare branches in winter.

This tree does not resist the seasons.

It simply allows the cycles of life to unfold.

Like the tree,

We too are part of these natural cycles.

Bring to mind a moment of joy you've experienced,

A small,

Beautiful memory.

Notice how that moment arose,

Blossomed,

And then passed.

Now,

If it feels safe,

Think of a challenging moment.

See how it too had its time,

And eventually softened or transformed.

Every experience,

Whether pleasant or difficult,

Follows the same pattern.

Rest in the understanding that change is neither good nor bad.

It simply is.

What would it feel like to let go of clinging to whatever was,

Or resisting whatever is?

In this moment,

Allow yourself to fully accept the impermanence of all things.

Bring your attention back to your breath.

Feel its natural flow,

Moment by moment.

With each inhale,

Inviting a sense of openness to change.

With each exhale,

Releasing any resistance to it.

When you're ready,

Gently bring your awareness back to the room.

Wiggle your fingers and toes,

And open your eyes if they were closed.

Take a moment to notice how you feel.

Carry this understanding of impermanence with you as you move through your day,

Knowing that everything is always in motion.
