It was once said that pride and arrogance is altogether an unpardonable sin,

And it shows an utter lack of intelligence and appreciation of the benevolence of the gods.

For it is only they who can bestow that of which man in his own foolishness is so proud.

And not only that,

But they do not realize that their unworthy pride is as much an illusion as the things on which they pride themselves.

Now I'm sure we all know people directly or indirectly who have an inflated sense of pride,

Or an arrogance in vanity for one reason or another.

Whether it be their looks,

Their talent,

Their skill,

Their achievements,

Wealth,

Whatever it may be.

And I know for a very long time,

I was one of those people.

See being so good at basketball at such a young age,

It gave me a sense of confidence,

A sense of assuredness,

But that quickly turned into an arrogance and a pride that made me feel a sense of superiority,

A sense that I was above others.

And for many years,

This is how I carried myself.

This was the belief that I held about myself.

And in the majority of my interactions for a very long time,

This was the way I conveyed myself to other people.

This was the energy that I gave to others.

Because in my own ignorance,

I believe that my achievements,

My successes,

My talents was of my own doing.

It wasn't until the universe being the wonderfully and beautifully tough,

But fair judge that she is humbled me to my very core that I was able to realize and truly see the message that all of the achievements,

Talents,

Success that I was being so proud and arrogant about was in fact not of my own doing.

And it did not come from me,

But from a higher realm from a higher power.

So why do I share this story of pride and arrogance with you today?

Well,

It's because there's a universal law that teaches us that all things,

Conditions and beings have their opposites.

And if we know one side,

Then we must know the other two.

And so if pride and arrogance are on one side,

Then the opposite of that must be humility.

And in our conversation today,

That's exactly what we will talk about,

The importance of being humble.

When we look up in the dictionary,

The word humble,

We find that it means having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's importance.

But what does that truly mean?

And why is it important?

Well,

It said that true humility creates a positive mental state,

Which attracts wisdom and light from the higher powers above.

When pride and arrogance dominate our thinking,

We are in a negative state of repulsion,

And we are incapable of either receiving or perceiving the light of truth.

Just to be clear,

When you hear me say things like the path to the light or the light of truth,

When I'm referencing the light,

I am meaning it in the sense of the finest or highest quality of the soul.

So when pride and arrogance dominate our thinking,

We are in a negative state of repulsion.

And we are incapable of receiving or perceiving the highest or finest quality of truth that our soul can attain.

Now at one point in time in our lives,

We have all been tempted to tell others about the amazing ideas and experiences that we have had.

However,

A great lesson of true humility is learning the importance of silence.

Have you ever had an experience that you told someone about,

And they just didn't believe you?

Or when you shared that experience with them,

They weren't able to conceive it themselves,

So they just dismissed it?

Well,

That's because by talking about certain experiences to other people,

You give them the opportunity to judge it according to their own preconceptions and their own prejudices.

It can weaken the experience and the lessons that they potentially hold for you.

And in the worst case scenario,

It can even make you doubt that the experience happened at all.

And at a certain stage with many ideas,

If you are giving people the opportunity to judge it with those prejudices and those preconceptions,

It can dissipate the energy that you have built up for this idea and also keep you from following through.

For some things are better left to following the importance of silence.

Now I'd like to read something to you.

It says,

Look to the flowers for your example.

They know that they are beloved by many who admire their light and their beauty,

But they remain forever silent.

Moreover,

The flower,

Like the mighty oak,

Knows its virtues come from the heavens above towards which its shining face is ever turned in silent gratitude.

So make peace your aim for the man or woman who has found peace has mastered a great secret of true humility.

So what does that mean?

Well,

I believe that it means trying to bring forth into your daily life,

Empathy,

Compassion,

Patience,

Kindness,

And support,

Even to those that have done you wrong,

Or even to those who you may really not want to display those higher emotions to.

And in the beginning,

When we initially try to have our thoughts and feelings being dominated by these more positive emotions,

We will fail.

But through continued practice and diligence,

When we do find ourselves succeeding,

It will bring about a wonderful joy like no other.

And in those moments when we begin to catch ourselves having those prideful thoughts and having those arrogant opinions,

Each time we find that awareness in keeping from going down that path and resisting those urges to do so,

We are able to raise our spirits and develop our inner self,

We are able to cultivate an atmosphere within that can foster peace.

Now in a previous conversation,

I spoke about the importance of balancing our emotions.

Well,

It's the same with humility,

For true humility depends on understanding the balance upon which both our material and spiritual lives are posed in equilibrium.

And we should always strive to make balance our guide.

Now there are countless examples of people who have focused so much on the material life to the neglect of their spiritual life.

And on the other side of that,

There are also countless examples of those who turn toward the spiritual life and neglect the material.

However,

We are placed here on this earth to learn certain lessons that we cannot learn elsewhere.

And in keeping with the theme of balance,

We want to strive to cultivate our spiritual life and cultivate our inner self to learn those lessons and gain the knowledge that we can so that we can use it in the material world to help ourselves and others while also striving to learn the lessons and gain the wisdom that our material life has for us so that we can in turn take those lessons and take that knowledge and develop our inner selves to an even greater degree.

Now like I said previously,

The definition of humility is having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance.

And the reason I bring this back up is because I want to make this really clear that being truly humble is not servility.

And I'd like to share something with you just to make that point clear.

It says humility is not about thinking badly of oneself or lowering oneself in the eyes of the world.

It is the perfect understanding of our place and position in the spiritual and material realms.

And I believe that this makes reference to how we give and receive through the same doorway.

Meaning having that humility to search out and seek for guidance and instruction and inspiration of those who may be better than us,

Those who may be ahead of us,

While at the same time reaching back with a helping hand to those who may be further behind us on this path than we are currently,

While still keeping this humility to regard them with compassion,

Patience,

Tolerance,

And understanding that we were once where they are now.

And just as foolish and immature in our ways and in our thinking,

Maybe even more so.

I would like to share a passage with you.

And in that passage,

There's a saying by the great Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

It says,

May not a man take muddy water and make it clear by keeping still.

I appreciate this saying for a couple reasons.

The first reason is that it paints a picture about how having water and mud mixed together in a bowl or a glass and you're steering it around.

You can't really tell the difference between the two.

But the moment the bowl or the glass becomes still,

A natural separation occurs with the mud falling to the bottom and the finer and more clear water naturally rising to the top.

And it's also a reference of the higher and lower cell of the human being.

But on a much deeper level,

It speaks about inner stillness.

Because later on in that passage,

It says inner stillness,

Which is another name for peace,

Is the passport to success in all material and spiritual activities.

But before we can find peace,

We must first acknowledge our lack of it.

This takes courage and requires humility.

It is our destiny to return to our true self.

Step by step,

Life by life,

Age by age.

Now to me,

That is extremely powerful.

And I think from our conversation today,

It is very clear just how truly powerful and important it is to be humble and to display humility.

It's because on this journey of self mastery,

Instead of telling others what to do,

I strive to help people think deeply and gain their own insights that come from within themselves.

So with keeping that in mind,

I'd like to direct you back to a thought that I shared with you at the beginning of our conversation.

And it was this humility creates a positive mental state,

Which attracts wisdom and light from the higher powers above.

When pride and arrogance dominate our thinking,

We are in a negative state of repulsion.

And we are incapable of receiving or perceiving the light of truth.

Now before I wrap up our conversation today,

I do have a challenge for you.

For the next seven days,

I challenge you to approach every interaction that you have in your daily life with compassion,

Patience,

Empathy,

Love,

And support.

And throughout the seven days,

If you've been able to consistently put this into practice,

Take notice of the positive and joyful changes that come about in your life.

I am always grateful to spend these moments with you.

And I hope our conversation today provided impact and inspiration.

And more so,

I hope that you were able to gain insight that helped you on your mastery journey.

Be well,

Be safe,

And be blessed.
