Hi,

I'm Brandon and this is the class on emotional blockages.

And before we dive into the content,

I had a tough conversation yesterday that I think we can all learn from.

I had to tell my suitcases that we aren't going on vacation this year.

I'm dealing with emotional baggage.

Bad joke.

All right,

Just had to start us off with that.

But really,

Emotional blockages or energy blockages are something that just about everyone on earth experiences.

We might think of an emotional block as when you're feeling anger,

But don't feel like you're allowed to express that anger or you're not able to express that anger.

You don't know how.

There's not an appropriate method to get that out.

Or maybe that you're feeling sad,

But you've been told you have to stay strong.

You have to put on a happy face.

Can't let anyone see you cry.

Those sort of things.

Those are examples of when you're experiencing your own emotions in a blocked way.

But more often than you might think,

You're also feeling an emotion that belongs to somebody else.

An emotion that's old.

An emotion that's no longer true to the present moment.

Those are a couple other ways in which an emotion or an energy could be blocked.

And what do I mean by that?

Well,

Let's start with a couple key concepts to understand what I'm talking about.

And then we'll dive into a meditative experience to feel it for yourself,

Experience it for yourself.

So the first thing that's helpful to understand is that everything is energy.

Whether it's electricity or whether it's a dense,

Dense matter like this body,

Either one is energy,

Right?

Whether it's an emotion,

Whether it's a thought,

That's a form of energy.

And the second part of that concept is that energy moves.

When it is moving in the correct direction,

You feel good.

Things are flowing.

That's why it's called a flow state,

Right?

If you're able to express that laughter,

Express that sadness,

You know,

Even sadness or anger,

Something that's considered a bad emotion.

If you're able to really get that out,

You're able to just scream,

You're able to just cry,

You feel better after,

Right?

And moved through you.

It wasn't stuck.

It's when energy gets stuck that it creates the blockage,

That it creates some sort of pain,

That it lingers,

That we start to attach a story to it and hold on to it.

It's really gonna,

You know,

Hold you back or make you feel bad.

That sort of a thing,

Right?

And the third concept is that we are connected.

We're connected as a whole.

We're connected enough for us to pick up on or even process other people's thoughts,

Feelings,

Their energy,

Things of that nature,

Right?

Even science now shows that a lot of people will co-regulate their nervous systems when they're near somebody else for a long enough time or close enough contact,

Their nervous systems start to match up a little bit.

Well,

It's easy then to understand how you could be picking up on somebody else's energy.

You could be picking up on somebody else's thought,

Somebody else's emotion.

And it's not that their emotion is good and your emotion is bad or vice versa,

But it's rather you're meant to be feeling your emotions because those are messages within your body,

Within your system.

Their energy,

Whether it's,

You know,

An amazing feeling or a bad feeling,

Doesn't matter.

It's just not meant to be within you.

It's the wrong fuel for your body,

Right?

And if you have the wrong fuel in there,

The wrong energy,

It's not going to be able to flow.

You know,

If you have somebody who's really stuck or really emotional and you start to take that on and you try to solve that,

One,

It's going to become stuck because it's not yours.

And two,

It's going to be unsolvable because it's not your problem to solve.

It's not something that you created.

You might have some advice,

You might have an answer,

You might be able to give some support,

But you can't solve that energy,

Right?

And the final concept that I want to just introduce is that your emotions aren't wrong.

They're a message from your body.

Your spirit talks to your body through images.

It sends down some image,

Which most people,

You know,

Refer to as a thought.

The thought comes after the image,

But that's where most people recognize it,

Right?

And then that thought goes down to your body and your body receives that message and it responds with an emotion or a sensation,

Right?

Imagine like those videos,

If you've ever seen them,

When you're scrolling on your phone and somebody like throws a baseball at the screen and it flies towards you,

That's an image,

Right?

It gets translated to the body,

The body goes fear,

And it has you,

You know,

Jump out of the way.

It has you react,

Brings that emotion,

That sensation through the body back up to you in spirit.

And then you in spirit get in return,

Respond to that message as well.

And the cycle continues,

Right?

So if there's an old message in there that's stuck,

Like a negative thought loop or some sort of mental image that would cause you to worry or stress,

You ever notice that where you're just thinking about something,

Whether you're seeing it on the news or seeing it as a possibility that it could happen in your life,

All of a sudden,

Your whole system starts to get stressed out.

You start to feel anxious.

You start to feel all these different things,

Right?

It'll create that stress within your body.

Well,

Most people,

They have so much going on in their lives that they can't track every thought that they have,

Every image that goes through,

The different things that they're seeing,

The different events in their life even that may be kind of subtle.

But at some level,

It was invoking a level of anxiety or a level of pain.

But because we're such a busy society,

We don't necessarily have the time and space to process it,

Or at least most people don't.

So when that happens,

Someone might become unconscious to it,

Right?

They're not sure where that message came from down the line.

And so they're unconsciously going to be holding on to some negative feeling because they know there's a message in it that's trying to get communicated.

Oh,

There's some fear in here.

There's some anxiety in here.

I can't for the life of me remember what that was about,

But I feel anxious.

Some people,

They don't even realize it's a message.

So they're just like,

Okay,

I'm anxious.

Let me eat some chocolate.

Let me do something to try to cope with that,

To try to block out that feeling,

To get rid of it,

To change my state.

And sometimes it's okay to not find the answer and to do something to change your state.

But if it's reoccurring,

Something that's blocked that you're holding on to,

Being able to hear that message,

Find where it's coming from,

Or at least communicate that you heard it so that it doesn't have to keep being communicated can be really,

Really helpful.

For example,

Back when I had more of a corporate job,

I remember sometimes I would be on the phone with different people that I was working with.

And sometimes I'd be on hold or something,

And maybe I'd be scrolling on my phone and I would see something that would upset me,

But then the person on the phone would come back on.

So I'd have that conversation.

And after the conversation,

I wouldn't remember what upset me,

But all of a sudden I was feeling really anxious.

And I would be even more concerned because I'm like,

I don't remember what I was anxious about,

What I was supposed to be dealing with.

And then maybe eventually later on in the day,

I would remember and be like,

Oh,

It was just the silly thing.

Or,

Oh no,

It was this really important thing I was supposed to remember.

But when I made the time or space to hear that message,

It would start to dissipate.

And so we're going to play with this and even take it further.

But a quick review is an emotional blockage can be an old message waiting to be heard.

It can be someone else's energy that we're picking up on,

Processing,

Or it could be an emotion that we're conditioned to not be able to express or hear,

Right?

One that's not bad,

It isn't good.

It isn't safe enough to feel or hear its message,

Right?

Maybe when you were feeling that emotion the first time,

It was so big,

You couldn't hold it in your body.

You would collapse,

Something would happen.

And so you learn to shut that down before it got to that place.

You're not supposed to be having it.

All sorts of different ways it could be suppressed,

Right?

So how do you clear an emotional blockage?

You first create some stillness.

You create some space to hear its cry,

To hear its message,

What it's trying to say.

You become aware of what that message is,

Or at the very least why that energy is blocked.

You investigate a little bit,

Impassionately inquire.

And then you use a visual energy clearing technique to release that energy,

To heal or break up the blockage.

And most people,

They focus on the releasing aspect of this.

They see that as being what the healing is.

That's the most important part.

But in reality,

Your awareness around the emotion,

Your awareness around the blockage,

Is probably at least 90% of the work.

Becoming aware of it,

Right?

Hearing it.

That's 98% of the work.

And then you can't hear it.

You can't hear it.

You can't hear it.

You can't hear it.

You can't hear it.

98% of it.

And then just the last 2% is having some sort of technique in which you can clear it.

So that's what we're going to do here.

So go ahead and close your eyes,

Be flat on the floor.

Find a nice comfortable but upright position in which you can meditate.

I want you to just start to go within.

Start to find your inner space.

I want you to give yourself a four-sided breath.

So a four-sided breath is taking an inhale breath for 4 seconds,

Hold it for 4 seconds,

And then exhale that breath for 4 seconds.

Exhale for another 4.

Just bringing some awareness here.

And then would you continue to increase your awareness by imagining yourself in the center of your head.

That space behind your eyes and in between your ears.

And from that spacious,

Energetic center in your head,

Do a body scan.

Would you start to tune into what's arising within you?

Maybe there's some thoughts,

There's some feelings,

Sensations,

Even some images.

And just start to say hello to them.

These aren't necessarily going to be your biggest block or something that's really struggling with.

It's just it could be what's just on the surface.

It's still cultivating some inner peace,

Some stillness,

Which was that first step.

Actually have the time and space to be with.

Would you ask to become aware of the blockage that has been holding you back the most?

Whether it's a blockage you've been aware of or not,

Or it's unconsciously affecting you,

Or it's one that's really obvious to you,

Or suppressing,

Or you could experience receiving this information in the form of an image.

Maybe it appears in your mind's eye.

See something out,

Just suddenly just let it come to you in a relaxed but open and curious way.

Try to force it.

Intellectually deduct what it should be.

And take your mind out of the equation by being present with those other ways in which you're sensing that information.

And you may be totally surprised what shows up.

Maybe something that you're very familiar with as a blockage.

Either way,

Say hello to it.

Ask it if it's yours.

This is,

Did it come from a friend,

Person walking down the street?

I've seen that happen.

Or someone was on lunch break.

Asked a bunch of angry protesters,

And then by the time they got back to the office,

They were suddenly really angry and didn't know.

Just as an example.

And do experience and answer.

Just simply was that,

Is that blockage,

Is that emotion or energy yours or someone else's?

If the answer is that it is not your emotion,

Could be one other person's emotion that you took on,

Or it could be a few people.

Either way,

I want you to see that emotional blockage as energy.

Let that energy fill up a balloon.

As if you could siphon it out of your body,

Out of wherever you're holding onto it.

Maybe you feel it in your shoulders,

Or feel it in your gut.

Wherever it is,

Bring a balloon to that area.

And just allow that energy fill up that balloon.

Let that balloon drift away.

Let it go.

Simple as that.

You identified it.

Stop trying to solve it.

Stop trying to believe that it was you.

And you just give it a visual cue to release.

Simple as that,

If it wasn't yours.

And if that was the case,

You can pick another one.

If the answer is that it is your emotion,

It is your energy,

Ask if it is in present time.

Is it a relevant message to what's going on right here,

Right now?

Or is it an old message,

Experience,

Or something that's in relationship to the future?

If it's old,

You can hear it all the same.

You can experience what it has to say.

Thank it for trying to keep you safe,

Trying to communicate something.

Do the same.

See that energy somewhere,

Watch it drift.

Last step here,

What if you're experiencing an emotion that is yours,

And it's relevant to the present moment?

It will be feel good,

Feel true to you,

Of expression.

You're conditioned to not feel it,

Experience it,

Or express it for yourself.

So with your intention,

Ask to experience,

See,

Or feel.

One of the emotional blockages that you have is relevant to present time,

But that you aren't allowed to feel or express.

It's been deemed bad,

Unworthy,

Too dangerous.

And just see what comes up for you.

Maybe really obvious which emotion that is might surprise you.

Sometimes this can help clear other things up too.

The other day I was feeling really,

Really tired,

And I sat and did this,

And I found that there was some disappointment.

There was some sadness at something somebody had released that I said hello,

Saw what it was in regards to,

Something I wasn't thinking about.

I released it,

And all of a sudden I got more of my energy back.

So see what comes up,

And once you have it,

Ask it why or when did you learn it wasn't okay?

Was that taught to you?

Was it through somebody telling you?

Wipe your tears to not show that sadness?

Or was it through somebody who was a guardian of yours that was denying their own anger,

Trying to hide it,

Suppressing it?

How does it think it's protecting you?

Taking this off or suppressing it?

Which of course doesn't work.

It just makes it grow in size,

Right?

Just makes it become toxic.

So you might see an image of a time when you were just get a sense of knowingness.

Even see that person who taught it to you.

If you don't see it visually,

That's okay.

Let it come as a thought,

Sensation.

And start to ask yourself if you allowed yourself to feel this fully right now,

Just perceive of an answer.

That'll show you what the underlying fear belief is that keeps you blocked.

It keeps you suppressing,

Holding on to.

If you communicate to that part of you,

It is okay.

Feel this right now that you can allow yourself to process,

To let go.

This part of yourself that you'll still be loved,

Safe,

Held,

A little less perfect for feeling or expressing this emotion.

Just give some inner communication to that part of you and give yourself a couple deep breaths as you communicate that acceptance.

And you start to allow that energy to flow,

For yourself to feel where it's message.

So just sit with that for a moment,

It's course.

And if you're sitting on the edge of a cliff,

You know that emotion or sensation,

It might just keep coming up.

But if it's something that you're done for that message,

Once you feel it,

Understand it,

Accept it like this,

It usually will dissipate.

It'll usually become something else.

Not that you're trying to force it to become something else,

Resisting it or trying to move it away.

You're just feeling it.

Sometimes that tends to be the case.

And so let's go ahead and more visual technique is to release stuck energy or emotions.

So become aware of any stress,

Any stuckness,

Any confusion,

Or else feel stagnant or stuck within you.

And see it as hard clumps of energy sitting in or around your body to give it some,

To make it something that isn't you.

And give yourself another deep breath.

As you see those clumps of energy starting to turn to hot fudge and just running down your back in a soothing way.

And just let that right off your shoulders,

Right off your body,

Just drop down effortlessly,

Sliding down and off.

There's no stickiness to it.

It's just a complete release.

Exhalation if you want,

Arms down,

Give some physicality to that release.

Then when you take your next big breath in,

Imagine that you're breathing in all the joy,

All the spaciousness,

Peace,

Positivity,

Anything else that you want to fill yourself back in with.

Imagine that you can breathe that in with that next deep inhale.

Breathe that positive light into your body and start to give it a gentle stretch.

You can slowly start to come with this meditation.

Give yourself a little bit of a stretch,

A little bit of a wiggle,

Knowing that you just learned an easy but effective way to go within and release blockages or stuck emotions.

And the next time you're frustrated with something being stuck,

Don't just immediately try to fix it,

Try to cast it away,

But realize that sometimes it just needs that time and space to be processed too.

There you go.
