Welcome to Somatic Tracking for Chronic Pain where we will spend some time focusing on the painful sensations in our body without judgment.
Let's begin.
I invite you to get into a comfortable position.
You might decide to close the eyes or gently gaze in front of you and if you can begin to notice the sensations inside of your body slowly by bringing your focus to them,
Tuning into any pain that you are experiencing.
Noticing the quality of that sensation in the body,
Noticing exactly where you feel the sensation,
Noticing if it is local to one area or if it is spreading throughout the body.
I invite you to try and watch the sensation with a sense of curiosity,
Without any fear or any judgment.
You're just noticing.
You don't need to do anything to change the sensation or move the sensation in any way.
You're just exploring the sensation as if you were a passenger in a car watching traffic go by or you were lying on the grass gazing up at the clouds in the sky.
Just tuning into the sensation with gentle curiosity.
And what do you notice happens as you pay attention to the sensation?
Does it intensify or perhaps get more dull?
Does it move around your body?
Now I know it feels like there is something happening in the body but your muscles are healthy,
Your body is strong.
The sensation you're experiencing is your brain reacting to a neutral safe sensation.
Your brain believing that the sensation is dangerous.
Knowing that,
See if you can pay attention to the sensation,
Remembering you don't need to change it or get rid of it.
In fact,
There's nothing to get rid of.
Your brain is simply misinterpreting these safe signals as dangerous,
Causing this physical pain in your body.
So I invite you to continue to pay attention to this interesting sensation you're experiencing,
Exploring it,
Knowing that you are safe right now in this moment.
And what do you notice as you continue to explore the sensation?
As you follow it,
Noticing how amazing it is that the body can change what we're experiencing as we pay attention to it.
Knowing the sensations may ebb and flow like the waves in the sea getting bigger or smaller.
Remembering you're not trying to fix it,
You're simply observing it.
Perhaps you can marvel at the fact that your brain is able to work with your body to create these sensations.
Knowing that there's nothing wrong with your body,
Your brain is misinterpreting this danger.
Marvel at how the brain can do that.
Just like a child would marvel at a new toy.
Continue to see if you can pay attention to this pain,
Not try and get rid of it,
Just exist with it.
As you're doing this,
Continuing with gentle curiosity,
Not paying attention to it as if you were scrutinizing it or studying for a test,
Doing it really intensely.
You're doing it with effortlessness and with ease.
Just like you're lying on that grass looking at the clouds above you in the sky.
Remembering that you are safe in this moment,
That these are sensations in the body that the brain is creating.
And I invite you to sit with these sensations for as long as feels comfortable,
Stopping whenever you are ready.
