Today's meditative journey is inspired by Capricorn and its corresponding tarot card of the major arcana,
The Devil.
Capricorn is the ruler of the 10th house in the tropical zodiac and earth sign in the form of a goat.
Before the ancient Greeks,
As early as 1700 BC,
The goat was depicted as a sea goat.
Capricornus by the Babylonians.
In fact,
The sea goat constellation is one of the oldest found symbolized in relics as a half-fish,
Half-goat dating back to the middle bronze age.
This ancient archetype is part of the cardinal signs of the zodiac,
An ambitious leader with the momentum to get things done.
One like all cardinal signs marks the beginning of a season.
As the solstice rises into being,
So does Capricorn,
Ruled by the planet Saturn,
The planet of structure,
Regulation,
Determination,
Wealth,
And discipline.
It's not by accident that during the time of Capricorn,
Father Time makes an appearance during the holiday season.
Saturn is the god of time and agriculture according to the Roman mythology and associated with the metal,
Lead.
The symbol for Capricorn has three forms,
Each one including a horn and tail of the sea goat.
The glyph for Saturn is an inverted symbol of Jupiter.
This brings us to the most misunderstood and misrepresented cards of the tarot,
The double card,
15th card of the major arcana.
Ironically,
If you reduce 15 to 1 plus 0 plus 5 equals 6 in numerology,
You'll come up with the 6th card in tarot,
The lovers,
Which looks similar to the double card in the Rider Waite deck yet represented with an angel instead of the devil.
If you have these cards and haven't compared them to each other,
See what you discover as you look at them side by side.
We'll share more about the devil's card,
Detailed symbolism in our upcoming social media posts during the time of Capricorn.
The devil card is not to be feared.
According to Robert Wang in the Kabbalistic Tarot,
Quote,
In Kabbalistic terms,
The devil is not viewed as an evil entity having its own separate existence.
Rather,
It is represents a special mystery which must be penetrated before one can directly know the higher principle of the self.
The devil,
Which is the adversary,
Is the master of manifest form,
Which we must face and conquer,
End quote.
The devil also can represent humor,
Ego,
Where we hold ourselves back,
The illusion that we do not have a choice,
The shadow aspects of ourselves,
Addictions,
Ignorance,
Fixations,
Sexuality,
And deception.
This card is an opportunity for our unconscious to be witnessed by our consciousness and to be humbled,
Which relates to the sea goat,
The goat being a mammal of the earth.
Other than Sherpas and mountaineers who can climb the tallest mountains with the thinnest of air and the fish who do not need air yet can swim into the depths of waters,
The water representing our subconscious.
Knowing this,
We have an opportunity to breathe into our awareness and discover where our liberation resides for our individual selves and where we are bound or how are we being the devil.
Let's not forget that the devil is also represented by Pan,
The Greek deity of creativity,
Merriment,
Sensuality,
Humor,
And nature,
Possibly the green man.
Something to consider,
The devil spelled backwards is lived.
Now,
Let's begin our meditative journey on the exploration of our personal liberation through breath.
Put yourself in a position that is comfortably seated or lying down.
Observe the room in which you are about to meditate.
Maybe you'd like to scan the room and if available to you,
You may like to close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Notice the areas where your body is making contact with the earth.
Notice where fabric rests upon your skin.
Observe the flow of air coming into your body and out of your body.
As you inhale,
Observe where the air goes and flows into your body.
Notice the sensation of how it feels to release your breath.
How is it to receive air into your body?
As you breathe,
Scan your body.
Begin at your feet or your crown of your head and slowly scan your body.
If you notice any area that is clinching,
Holding or tightening,
Are you able to allow the breath to soften your body in those areas?
Simply breathe and soften.
If your mind wanders,
Are you able to let the thoughts go into the flow and not follow the thought?
Imagine the thoughts that do arise simply as clouds moving across the sky.
Do you notice the spaces in between the thoughts?
Anytime a thought arises,
Simply breathe it in and out.
As you breathe,
Notice your heart space.
As you inhale,
You receive.
And as you exhale,
You release.
Breathe here now.
Inhale,
Receive.
Exhale,
Release.
Simply soften.
In these breaths of intention,
You are offering yourself the gift of breath.
A gift to yourself.
A gift to your body.
A gift of life.
This gift you give yourself is also a gift when released.
It regenerates life for trees and plants and in turn the trees and plants return the gift in the form of oxygen.
This loop cycles to and from,
In and out.
Imagine your feet firmly rooted upon the earth.
The earth is stable and you feel the current of life flow into your body.
As it does,
A wishing well filled with the brilliant color of blue appears before you.
You can see yourself in the reflection.
What do you see?
Are you able to laugh or smile at the reflection you see looking back at you?
Now,
If thoughts arise again,
Imagine them as coins you can toss into the well.
Their wishes or their thoughts to release that which does not serve you.
Simply let them flow into the water which washes them away and clears your mind.
Perhaps at this moment you'd like to create an affirmation for yourself or a mantra to remind you of a lightheartedness within you or something that fills your heart with laughter or peace.
Or maybe it's a place that brings you joy.
I will pause for the next few moments so you can be in the space with the wishing well.
In the next breaths,
Give yourself attention to your breath.
Notice your breath into your nose and into your body.
As it does,
Scan your body.
Is there a difference from the first scan and how your breath moves now and how your body has changed?
Notice the earth which supports you and any textures against your body.
With eyes closed or a soft gaze,
Arrive back into the room in which you are lying down or seated.
Maybe you'd like to place your hands on your heart space.
Breathe here now.
When you have returned from your journey,
You may like to keep your eyes closed and gently arrive back into your being.
Maybe wiggling your toes or fingers,
Perhaps invite in a stretch and a yawn or some laughter.
If you're lying down and if comfortable to you,
You may like to extend this meditative journey into your conscious world by rising ever so gently on your side.
There is no rush.
You may rise on your right,
The solar side of your being,
Or your left,
The lunar side of your being.
Lunar being introspective,
Creative,
Yin,
Intuitive,
The language of dreams and the astral realm and solar being expressive,
Yang,
Logical,
Physical,
Linear and energized.
When you're ready,
You may open your eyes if they were closed.
Thank you for exploring the astral realms with us.
You are magical,
You are complete,
You are whole,
You are loved,
Vibrant,
Worthy and eternal.
