Hello,
My name is Ashley Anne-Marie and I would like to share some thoughts that came to me while I was meditating and praying,
Specifically on trusting God,
Trusting a higher power in the universe.
This is an area that I used to struggle with greatly.
In fact,
I used to fight against it.
I wanted all the control and that did not work well,
But through practice it became slowly easier and easier to give over my trust and the control of my life to God.
Things got better for me and it did get easier with practice,
But still to this day I have to practice it regularly because it's not the easiest thing to do.
It's hard.
And as I was meditating on it,
I ended up finding a scripture verse that related to this perfectly,
Trusting God.
Specifically,
Jesus' trust in God,
Right?
The absolute best role model that we could have,
The perfect example,
Is looking towards how did Jesus trust God.
And this scripture verse really hit me and opened my eyes.
Now,
I've taken a lot of religious courses.
I always loved to learn about God and spirituality and in college I took a lot of extra courses on religion.
But the more I learn,
There's always new things to learn.
You never know everything.
You think you know something and then you learn more and and there's always a lesson to be had,
Okay?
And the scripture verse I found I'm going to share with you now.
So please get into a comfortable position if you're not already.
You can lie down.
You can sit in a comfortable seat.
Gently close your eyes and hear these words.
This scripture verse is about Jesus.
Then he said to them,
My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.
Stay here and keep watch with me.
Going a little further,
He fell with his face to the ground and prayed,
My father,
If it is possible,
May this cup be taken from me,
Yet not as I will,
But as you will.
So once I really learned the meaning of that verse,
That's when I had my moment.
I learned that Jesus did not want to die.
If you're Christian or you're familiar with the faith,
You're constantly hearing Jesus died for your sins.
He died to save you.
He died because he loved you.
That's all true.
A hundred percent that's true.
And I think that sometimes we fall into this mentality of maybe just assuming that he was happy to do it.
He was he was thrilled to go through this process,
But the reality is the crucifixion is a insufferable way to go.
It's excruciating pain.
And of course it makes perfect sense that Jesus did not necessarily want to die and that before his crucifixion in the garden when he was praying,
He felt sorrow.
He felt pain,
Emotional pain,
Just as we do.
And he asked God if if this could,
You know,
Not happen.
If he could be spared and things could be done another way.
But he didn't just end it there with a plea.
He ends it with,
But it is your will,
Not mine.
I give the control to you.
I let you decide the final decision.
I'm letting you know my intentions.
I'm letting you know my feelings.
I'm sharing that,
But I fully acknowledge that God,
You have the final say and the outcome is in your hands,
Not mine.
To me,
That is the holy grail of trust.
If we have a decision to make in our life,
And let's say it's an easy decision in this example,
And we genuinely don't care what the outcome is,
We'd be happy with any solution that comes out of it.
We're not,
We're not picky on this one.
It's easy to trust God.
It's easy to say,
Yeah,
I'll give that to you.
I'll flip the coin,
You know,
Whatever.
Trust and the meaning of trust and faith comes from those difficult decisions.
Those those things in our life that really matter,
That really reside deeply in our heart and weigh on us.
That is where the trust means everything.
Where there is a decision that maybe you want something so bad,
And your heart hurts for it.
But you're still willing to say,
Not my will,
Not my plan,
Yours,
God.
And that's what Jesus did,
With massive stakes on the line,
His life,
His life,
And the death that is excruciating.
He felt sorrow,
And he still turned it over to God.
What does that mean for us?
It means a lot.
There's a lot of layers to this.
If Jesus,
In a moment of pain and sorrow,
Can give his life to God,
And give that decision and be willing to go through that,
The crucifixion,
And all that unimaginable physical pain,
Mental pain that he went through,
If he can give that,
We can challenge ourselves slowly to start giving stuff to God as well.
We can start with baby steps and build up.
But if Jesus did that,
I'm pretty sure we can be challenged to do better too,
With trusting.
I also loved the meaning of this,
Because it also shows us it's okay to ask God for things.
It's okay to give him our intentions,
To give him our feelings,
Our prayers.
It's okay to ask.
It's okay to ask for him to help unburden us.
And it's okay to give him our wishes,
Right?
Going to manifesting,
It's totally okay to set an intention of what you want,
A goal,
A desire.
Absolutely bring that to God in the universe.
He wants to hear it.
But the most important step is doing what Jesus did.
It's not my final call.
I give this to you,
I present it to you,
And that's where I hand it over.
That's where I leave it.
It's now relinquished from my hands into yours.
My trust is fully with you.
The control is fully with you.
So perhaps that is something that we can learn greatly from when we are in pain.
Even in those deep,
Dark moments,
We remember Jesus handed it over.
When the stakes were massive,
We can hand it over as well.
And a gentle reminder that Jesus did suffer greatly with this decision.
The sorrow and the anxiety that he must have felt,
That he admitted to feeling.
He's not cold and unfeeling when we are in pain.
He went through it first.
Sometimes people become angry and cold in this life.
They say,
I'm in so much pain.
How could God do this to me?
How could he make me feel this way?
He went through it too,
For us.
God did not have to subject himself to pain.
But through Jesus,
He allowed himself to feel unimaginable suffering and unimaginable sorrow first.
He did it himself.
He is not cold.
He is not empathetic to us.
He feels it too with us.
And he carries it too with us.
So just to check in,
Make sure we're still in a comfortable position,
Either lying down or sitting.
And if we're not,
That's okay.
But we begin to get comfortable now.
And we slowly close our eyes.
As we close our eyes,
We count backwards from ten.
Either out loud or in your head.
Ten,
Nine,
Eight,
Seven,
Six,
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
Take a deep inhale.
Inhale.
Fill up the lungs.
Hold it at the top.
And then release.
God,
We ask that you show us the areas of our life where we need to be more trusting.
We ask that you show us the things in our life that we need to turn over to you.
Take three deep breaths.
As you inhale,
Try to push your stomach out as far as it will go and hold it out.
This will allow us to get a really deep breath in.
And exhale.
God,
Please show us the areas we need to release.
Now would be a great time to offer one thing that we can think of.
Something that comes to mind that we would like to release right now.
It could be a person,
A dream,
A goal,
Any decision that we may be struggling with and we don't know what to do.
So we offer it up.
Take a deep,
Deep breath now.
And whatever came to you,
Set that image in your mind.
See what it is in your mind's eye.
Take three deep breaths.
And on the exhale,
You can say,
God,
I give you this decision.
I give you this and I ask that it is in your hands,
Your capable hands,
Not mine.
I trust you fully.
I give the control to you fully,
Trusting that you will bring about the outcome of the highest good.
Take one more inhale out.
And when you are ready,
You can slowly begin to open your eyes,
Wiggle your toes,
Feel your fingers,
And slowly come back to being.
You are welcome to repeat that exercise of breathing and releasing as many times with as many things as you would like.
And if it ever becomes difficult,
Just breathe into that as well.
Breathe into that and release that difficulty,
That hesitation as well.
Thank you for listening today.
Send you all love and light.
