Hello,

My name is Ashley Ann Marie,

And today we will be doing a guided exercise for releasing our emotions over to God.

Sometimes in life,

Our emotions become so overwhelming or so unbearable,

We're not sure what to do with them anymore,

And it becomes too hard to carry ourselves.

This guided meditation reminds us that no matter what our emotions are,

We always have the choice to hand them over to God.

Begin by finding a comfortable seating position or lying down,

Whatever feels right for you.

Gently close your eyes to count backwards from 10.

This can either be out loud or in your head.

Begin to visualize the image of a beautiful forest,

A forest surrounded by trees and a small path in the forest.

You approach the path and you begin walking through this path.

As you travel further into the forest,

You notice all the sights and sounds around you.

You can hear birds chirping,

You hear the sound of water in the distance,

And you can feel how smooth the soil is beneath your feet from the rich earth.

As you walk further down the path,

You begin to notice that you feel peace beckoning towards you,

Like a spot is calling to you,

So you follow this urge.

You go up a hill and your body begins to feel tired.

As you travel up this incline,

Your muscles begin to relax and your limbs feel looser.

Your muscles are lengthening and relaxing as you climb up the hill.

When you reach the top of the hill,

You notice that you're at a vantage point.

You can see a beautiful bright blue lake right in front of you with mountains in the distance covering every angle from the lake.

As you look closer,

You notice at the bottom of the hill,

There is a beautiful rock that looks comfortable and is perfect for sitting on.

The feeling of peace beckons towards you again and your body knows to follow it.

Your body knows to trust its instincts and you move closer towards the rock.

There you sit and you look out at the strong mountain.

Take a deep breath in as you see the mountain.

The mountain is large,

Strong,

And rooted into the earth.

And as you look at it,

You feel God's presence.

You have a feeling that he is all around you,

Everywhere you look.

Everywhere you look at this lake is proof of God's existence.

The beautiful trees,

The birds and the branches,

And the brilliant lake before you.

At this point,

You decide to give your emotions that you've been carrying to God who is as strong as that mountain.

You sit down on the rock and you take out a book bag.

In the book bag you are holding are rocks.

Rocks that are heavy and have been weighing you down for far too long.

As you open the book bag and reach in,

You see that each rock is labeled with an emotion that you have been carrying.

The weight is heavy and you feel that weight on your body.

Take a deep breath and take a moment to locate where in your body you have been carrying those emotions.

Maybe you've been carrying them on your shoulders and your back is aching.

Maybe you've been carrying them on your chest and it's been hard to breathe.

Wherever they have been for you,

That's okay.

You're going to give them over to a higher power now.

As you look through your bag,

You start to begin to see the labels.

Maybe one rock is labeled anger.

This rock may be very heavy and sharp with jagged edges.

Another rock may say sadness.

This rock may be smooth with round edges,

But equally heavy.

Perhaps another rock says anxiety.

Whatever the emotions are for you,

That's okay.

Please take a minute now to breathe and tune into your body.

What emotions have you been feeling that you are ready to give over and where do these emotions live in your body?

Once you begin to locate these emotions,

I want you to label them and really visualize that that word,

That emotion label is on the rock.

Your rock says disgust or heartache,

Maybe even grief.

Take this moment to breathe and realize there is no rock too large for God.

There is no emotion too heavy for him to carry for you.

God is big and strong like the mountain in front of you.

He can carry your rocks.

He can take your emotions and he wants nothing more than to take them for you.

God wants you to come to him and surrender these emotions.

He does not want you to carry this pain.

It is no longer yours to carry.

As you reach into the book bag,

Take out all of your rocks.

You may start to get nervous and think there's a lot of rocks here.

Can I give them all up?

You may cling to one rock or cling to an experience that caused that emotion.

That's okay.

Take a deep breath and breathe into that experience.

If you are having a harder time with one rock over another,

Tell God,

Tell him,

I'm struggling with this rock.

I'm having a harder time giving you this rock.

He'll know what to do.

Nothing is impossible for God.

God is big,

Bigger than we can imagine,

Bigger than the boxes we often put him in and whatever emotions are in your backpack,

He can handle them.

I want you to imagine a beautiful,

Small wooden boat approaches you at the lake like it's been waiting for you.

Take a deep breath as you look at the wooden boat.

You feel now an urge to put the rocks back in your backpack because you know where to put them now.

Take a deep breath,

Inhaling at the top,

Holding and let go.

You are now going to put your backpack in this wooden boat.

As you put them into the wooden boat,

I want you to take a deep breath and exhale.

It's okay to say,

I exhale my pain,

I exhale my anger,

My confusion,

My hatred,

Resentment.

Exhale that.

It's okay to be scared.

Put your rocks in the book bag,

Put the book bag in the wooden boat.

As you breathe deeper into this,

I want you to give a gentle push to that wooden boat into the water.

As you exhale,

This wooden boat is being instructed by God.

It is going to take your emotions and float them away.

Do not worry about where it is going.

Do not worry what is going to happen to them.

They are no longer yours to carry.

Watch them slowly fade into the distance.

They slowly roll through the gentle waves of the lake.

As the boat continues to float away further and further from you,

You continue breathing.

The further the boat gets,

Try to deepen your breaths.

Breathing into your stomach a little bit deeper than the last.

Holding the breath at the top a little bit longer than before.

Take a moment now to breathe and watch the boat float away.

As you watch the boat float away,

You notice that it begins to float so far you can hardly see it anymore.

The boat is gone from your field of view.

You look back at the mountain in front of you and you know,

You know in your body that your emotions are safe with God.

He has them.

He is as strong as that mountain and He can handle them.

He is so glad you came to Him and gave them up.

As you get ready to stand up and follow the path from which you came,

You know that you can always do this again.

Whenever your emotions become too hard to hold or life becomes too difficult on your own,

Remember that we were never meant to do this life alone.

We were always meant to be in connection with our Creator.

We cannot separate ourselves from the Creator.

We were meant to do this life with Him.

Slowly stand up and go along the path.

Notice if your body feels any lighter.

There are no stones in your book bag now.

Does your chest feel lighter?

Is it easier to breathe?

Is your back hurting less?

Can you stand up taller?

As you look for changes in your body,

Your strides lengthen and you go back over the hill,

You can turn around once more to look at the lake and know that whenever you need to,

You're welcome back here.

This peaceful place and this visit with God is something you can always return to as many times as you need.

There's no limit.

Notice if you feel any peace around you.

Any of God's peace that lives in that forest.

See if you can feel it.

Begin to go back down the hill.

You're treading downward now and your limbs are tired.

You had a long,

Successful journey.

Tread down the mountain now and you find that you are safely out of the forest.

Your path is smooth and you can always find it again if you need to.

Take a deep breath in now and begin to slowly open your eyes,

Wiggle your toes,

And when you are ready,

Come back to being.

Thank you for sitting with me today,

Wishing you love and light.
