In a few tips to help us to meditate properly,
Is first to meditate at a time when we're not tired.
See,
We are tired and we close our eyes,
It's easy for us to fall asleep.
So,
If you work hard all day and you try to sit at the end of the day and you're very tired,
Chances are you'll fall asleep.
So we should pick up a time when we are not tired,
When we are fresh,
And this is why the early morning hours have been recommended over the years.
In the old days,
You know,
When we didn't even have electricity,
People would sleep when the sun would go down.
Because you know,
You need candles and you're late,
Too late up everything.
And so they would get up early in the morning and the body would be well rested.
So it's the same thing now too.
If we are well rested and then we get up in the morning and we meditate,
Then chances of sleep overtaking us are less.
The second thing that might help us is,
Generally,
We notice that if we take a shower,
It really wakes us up.
You know,
Coming from the East,
Taking a shower in the morning is the norm.
That's what most people do.
You get up in the morning and you take a shower.
I realize that over the years here in the West,
Many people take a shower at night before they go to bed.
So it's a habit that you get into.
But I would say if you were to take a shower before you would meditate,
It would definitely help you be more wide awake.
Because the process of shower is one that wakes us up.
It like regenerates us a little bit.
And so that might be a technique that you might want to use if you're having trouble with sleep as you meditate.
Also,
You want to be sure that when you are meditating,
That the environment is such that it helps you.
So I think when you meditate,
Let's say at the same place in an environment which you've created to meditate,
It also helps because you know,
Okay,
This is my place in the apartment or in the house or my place of living,
And I'm going to meditate here.
So as you gravitate to that area,
Then you're going to be in the mode of meditation,
In the spiritual mode,
Thinking about yourself,
Thinking about the Master,
Thinking about God,
Be focused in the spiritual arena.
And so keeping a place in the house,
You can call it sacred or whatever you want to call it,
Where you meditate regularly.
Not that the place has an effect on you,
But it creates an atmosphere for you when you go to that area,
And say,
Hey,
This is the time to meditate or this is the place to meditate.
I think these factors will all help us as we focus on our meditations.
