Being With How You Truly Feel
In this guided practice, Burgs takes us on a journey deep within the subtle body with the aim to bring us to a state of equanimity, so that we can release and let go the conditioning tendencies in our mind that limit us from expressing our geniune state of being.
Transcript
Let's do our meditation.
Relax back into your body.
And as you do so,
Relax into how you feel.
How does it feel to just sit quietly within yourself right now?
Where are you relaxed and where are you unsettled or disturbed or agitated or tense?
Can you relax completely into and be totally with how you feel?
Bring your attention into your solar plexus.
Feel the area of your solar plexus.
Most of our egoic responses and reactions are triggered by the charge we hold in our solar plexus.
When we take things personally,
See it as me,
As mine.
Compare our experience to how we think it should be and react to it on account of that comparison.
Our pride,
The charge around this egoic personal perspective tends to arise through the solar plexus.
When we feel personally affronted or challenged by something,
Not because it is necessarily challenging,
But because we feel personally challenged.
This is our egoic body,
Our egoic reactive habit patterns,
Tendencies and the karma we accumulate around the idea of myself.
How attached to your idea of yourself are you?
How strongly have you formulated an idea of the person you are trying to show the world?
How contrived is your state of being on account of that idea of yourself you are seeking to uphold?
Or is there an idea of yourself you are also trying to hide from?
The one you are pleased with that you want to show the world and the one you are displeased with that you are trying to hide,
Not just from the world but from yourself.
We might be upholding two ideas of ourselves,
The one we show and the one we experience internally.
What kind of conflict do I live in on account of this split sense of self?
How does it make me react to the world around me,
To others,
To myself and the way that I habitually behave?
To what degree is my ego,
My idea of myself unwilling to accept myself as I am?
To what degree do I hide from seeing myself as I am?
What would I see if I saw myself as I am?
And what would I feel?
Spend some time sitting with the solar plexus,
Contemplating this idea of ourselves to which we are so attached.
And the impact that has upon the way we are,
The way we speak,
The way we display ourselves,
The way we think internally.
This contrived state of being that is driven by this idea of myself that is not the essence of who or what I am.
And behind that,
That deeper layer,
The naked suchness of what you feel.
How do I feel?
Not just how do I think I feel.
That is probably just part of your story.
How do I really feel?
Be with not just the physical feelings within your body,
But the charge and how it makes you feel.
Explore the area of your solar plexus and your belly,
Moving down to the sex chakra and the lower belly and up to the chest and the heart chakra.
Explore the charge around the organs,
In the nerves and in the subtle body itself,
The feeling tones and textures deep within you.
How they relate to how you feel within yourself in general,
To your attitude and state of mind.
If you were to put your idea of yourself into a mirror and look at it in its nakedness,
What would you see?
If you were to put how you feel about yourself into a mirror and look at it in its nakedness,
What would you see?
If you were to put how you display yourself into a mirror and look at it in its nakedness,
What would you see?
And behind that,
How do you feel?
What deep within your body?
Reveal and expose the charge you are holding in your tissues,
In your organs,
In your nerves,
In your chakras,
In the base of your body and in your heart.
Turn away from your focus on your ideas and thoughts and working it all out in your head.
Be with how it feels.
Be with how it feels.
Be with how it feels.
Be with how it feels.
Work from the body to the feeling,
Not from your mind to the feeling.
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
Feel your throat chakra.
How does it feel in your throat?
How does it make you feel to bring full awareness and attention to your throat chakra?
Explore the area of your throat and the area of your upper chest,
Behind your collarbones,
In the upper part of your chest and lung.
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How do you feel deeply within yourself?
How does it feel in your throat,
Your upper chest?
How do you express yourself?
Is the way you express yourself a genuine reflection of your inner being?
Or do you express yourself in one way to mask how you're feeling at another level?
The way we express ourselves is part of our ego,
It is part of our pantomime,
It is part of our display.
What level are you in conflict between the way that you display and express yourself and what you feel within yourself?
Within this idea of ourself,
Part of it is the idea of how I will meet with approval.
Within this idea of ourself is the fear of what won't meet with approval,
Our need to be seen,
Our pride.
To what level is that expressed?
Not just in your solar plexus and heart chakra,
But in your throat chakra.
When you feel your head,
It is full of the charge of your identity.
It is full of the charge of your ideas that are generated and driven by this idea of myself and how it relates to the world.
What I will do,
What I will say,
What it means.
What other people think,
How I'm seen,
This constant storyline micromanaging your inner world,
How you will display it,
How you will be seen,
How you think you are seen.
So much of our inner world of ideas and thoughts are wrapped up with ego and the idea of myself that I am endlessly obsessed with.
What if I could just let it go and just be?
Forget about how the world sees me.
Let go of this idea of how I want to be seen and just be.
Would I be okay to go unnoticed?
Or am I driven by a need to be seen?
What kind of charge do you carry in your head?
All these ideas that you fixate upon and the charge around them.
With this fixation with ourselves,
We become lost in our abstract inner world and we rob ourselves of presence.
We rob energy from the base and draw it into our head and work up our ideas of ourself and the world around us.
To the point where they may be totally dissociated from the suchness of what is actually happening.
And that is our separation,
Our isolation,
Our sense of solitude,
Our feeling alone within our inner world.
And feel your base chakra.
How does it feel in the base?
How do you actually feel when you sit,
Just sit within yourself and add nothing?
The raw physical experience of just being.
Can you sit with that?
Can you leave your thoughts and ideas alone long enough to enter into presence?
To find your mountain like presence,
To embody yourself fully?
Or is your inner world far too important to you to do that?
We shut down at the base,
We shut down at the crown and fold inwards upon our inner world.
And lose our connection to our own physical presence and our connection to what we are immersed in.
Absorbed in our inner world,
Immersed in ourselves.
We forget that we dreamed it all up.
It was an illusion.
We became intoxicated with.
Of all the things that are clung to,
The most clung to is this idea of me.
That much I am attached to my idea of myself.
That much I find myself in conflict.
That much I let go my idea of self.
That much I free myself from conflict.
When you say let go and don't.
When you recognize the cause of your suffering and don't let go,
You know it is only on account.
That your attachment to your idea of yourself is stronger than your longing to be free from suffering.
It's that simple.
Because at a deeper level,
Your true nature,
There is no part of you that would continue to cling or attach to something that is seen to be suffering.
How strong is this pride,
This ego,
This idea of myself that I cling to?
Sabhi sankhara anicchati.
Which is all impermanent.
That which is of the nature to arise is of the nature to pass away.
This idea of myself that I spend my entire life constructing.
Which is fragile and transient.
It is an entirely conditioned process.
It is not me,
I'm not that.
Just let go.
Sabhi sankhara anicchati.
Yara panyaaya pahasati.
Atani binda ti ruke samako visudhiya.
Sabhi sankhara dukhati.
Yara panyaaya pahasati.
Atani binda ti ruke samako visudhiya.
Sabhi dhamma hanatati.
Yara panyaaya pahasati.
Atani binda ti ruke samako visudhiya.
Sabhi dhamma hanatati.
It is all a conditioned process.
It is not me.
This idea of myself I created entirely in my mind.
It is an illusion,
A figment of my imagination.
And it separates me from my true state of being.
Feel from your heart to your whole body.
Sit with how it feels,
Just that.
Quietly and gently let go of your resistance.
Your unwillingness to be there.
Just let go.
Let yourself breathe naturally.
Don't restrain yourself or hold your breath.
Feel your whole body as one.
Just let go.
Let go.
Sabhe sata bhavantu sukhita tata.
May all beings be happy.
Breathe in.

How attached are you to the idea of yourself (ego)? The self you show to the world and the one you want to hide? Hide from not only yourself and also hide from the world? Burgs ask us to sit with ourselves and contemplate the deeper questions of what does it feel like to live in this split sense of self? Why are we so attached to this idea of ourselves which is not the essence of who we are? He asks us to be with how we feel on a deeper layer and not how we think we feel. Our ego sense of self is separate from our true sense of self and is an illusion only created by the mind. In summary, sit with how everything feels, breathe, and let go of resistance. May all beings be happy. Thank you, Burgs, for your beautiful ways of helping us exploring the inner realm ๐๐ผ๐

Today was my fourth time doing the meditation. It felt like I was hearing a lot of it for the first time. I always pick up stress in my nervous system and by the end of the meditation everything feels relaxed and balanced. Today I went deeper and felt fear as well. Thanks for this meditation. Itโs so good to step into presence.

Unmasking the pantomime. Essential and wonderfully targeted.
