As you sit comfortably and quietly in your precious space,

Let us reflect.

At this very moment in history,

We are being coerced into stopping and learning how to slow down.

It is as though the universe has pulled back the throttle,

Taking our lives out of our hands,

To teach us to live now and not then or later,

But simply now.

Time,

The great narrator of our existence,

Is now running the show,

Guiding us to be more reflective,

More patient,

More trusting,

More aware.

We have more time to observe,

Create,

Rest and nourish,

Not only those around us,

But ourselves.

Time to stop rushing about,

Eating out,

Buying,

Planning,

Running.

Nowhere to go in that new dress.

Nowhere to drive in that flesh car.

Diamonds and pearls not required.

It is a gift.

Are we aware of this?

To live in the present enables us to live peacefully,

Contentedly,

Happily.

Why?

Negative emotions such as fear,

Anger,

Distrust,

Greed,

Hatred,

Cannot gain credence in this moment,

Nor can sadness,

Angst and jealousy.

When we are just here we cannot be anywhere else.

We cannot compete with our neighbour,

For he too is as we are,

Here in the now,

Without the trimmings.

No one can give us this gift,

So there is no commitment,

Price tag or recompense.

This gift is not to beget on a birthday or as yuletide.

It is a gift granted daily and bestowed upon us by no one other than that which is outside of us,

Beyond us,

The bestower of life.

But only we can find it,

Harness it and give it to ourselves.

Only we have the power to make ourselves happy,

Look nowhere but within oneself.

Each toy we purchase offers only limited instances of playfulness,

So fleeting that one minute we are elated and the next deflated,

Ready to purchase again,

Ready to party again,

To satisfy our appetite in some way and to stave off the joyless thirst and hunger we so often feel.

Have you ever considered what could make you happy forever?

Wishing will not cut it,

Planning will not do it,

Wanting will not satisfy.

Needing will only hamper the ability to see clearly.

Stripped down of orally worldly goods and possessions,

What is it that makes us happy?

Love,

That is what makes us happy.

Love works with people,

Our pets,

Our environment,

Nature and ourself.

Love in itself fosters health physically and emotionally.

It is when time makes us stand still that we can be aware of those we honour,

Live with,

Look after,

Draw from,

Our relationships.

Love can only be experienced in the now.

So how can we be so completely present?

Fix your thoughts on an object in front of you,

An object that makes you happy,

That you love.

It may be a photograph of a partner,

A parent,

A niece or nephew,

Or a painting,

A piece of sculpture,

A flower,

Your dog nestling beside you,

Or you may be sitting by the sea watching the waves rolling into shore.

Is there something in the space that you are in now that gives you immense joy?

If so,

Do not take your eyes off it,

Other than to blink when you need to.

Be aware of the shape,

Size,

Colour,

Density,

Beauty of the object of your focus.

Observe.

Take a minute or so to focus,

To enjoy,

Breathing slowly and gently to absorb the sight you envisage.

And if there is not something in the space you are in upon which you can focus,

Close your eyes and bring to mind an image of someone or something that grants you great peace and joy.

At the moment when you feel you are fully present,

Observing,

Watching,

What sensations arise in your heart?

What elation comes?

Be aware of these sensations.

Be aware of how these sensations flow through you.

In here steadfastly,

Feeling and observing,

As you enter silence and stillness,

And moment at a very important time.

But,

At that moment,

Not much is left of you are not able to experience inside.

Be responsible for equations.

To access and consider these zones.

And still focusing upon this image,

Know that the mind is being trained to be still,

So that you may gain control of it.

And with that new horizons,

New beginnings,

New perceptions will open up before you.

Be aware of the sensations flowing through you.

Observe,

Watch,

Breathe gently and peacefully.

And again,

Keep your focus.

Bring the mind back over and over again.

It tends to wander away and this is normal.

Just bring it back.

Bring it back.

We all need to pause to find silence in which to feel ourselves again and to regain our emotional and physical equilibrium.

And again,

Keep your focus.

Bring the mind back over and over again.

It tends to wander away and this is normal.

Just bring it back.

If your eyes are open at this moment,

Close them down now and envisage the object of your focus still before you.

See it in your mind's eye.

Feel the sensations it stimulates in your body once again.
