So often we forget how to switch off at night - taking the business of the day to bed. This meditation was written to help our mind, to find stillness so you can rest and restore. Tonight, I will guide you along a path to a cosy cabin, a place of calm. Your mind will at times want to wander, drift off the path, When you notice, simply return to my voice and return to the journey to sleep.

Hi,

I'm Anne Lewis.

Some nights we find sleep eludes us.

As our mind is busy,

We're living the day or perhaps thinking about tomorrow.

We can help our mind to find stillness,

To find something calm to do so you can get some rest.

Tonight I will guide you along a path to a cozy cabin,

A place of calm.

Your mind will at times want to wander and drift off the path and when you notice this happen simply return to my voice,

Return to the journey.

Your mind will soon sense how more calming it is to be on the path and be less inclined to wander.

So before we start,

Just do whatever you need to do to make yourself as comfortable as possible so there is nothing that you need to do after the meditation ends than sleep.

Settle in your bed,

Adjust your covers,

Find a position,

Place of comfort knowing that throughout this meditation you can move,

Adjust and wiggle whatever you need to do to be comfortable.

Begin by taking a deep breath in and having a longer breath out.

A deep breath in and longer breath out.

Noticing how your body rises and lifts as you breathe in.

Notice how you soften and settle as you breathe out.

Allowing you to feel more connected with the surface that you rest upon.

Allowing your breathing now to just fall into its own natural rhythm.

You may notice as you meditate that your breathing will slow and that is absolutely normal.

Gently close your eyes if they're not already and use my voice as a guide.

Allowing for images,

Feelings and sensations to rise within you as you take this inner journey.

Gently bring your awareness to your body,

To the very crown of your head.

Begin to feel a wave of relaxation wash over you.

Allow tension to be washed from your forehead,

Your cheeks.

Noticing your chest rise and fall.

The wave of calm continues down your back,

Your hips.

Blowing down the legs until awareness is resting upon your feet.

You are standing on the top of a mountain on a wooden pathway.

See the path stretching out ahead of you.

You notice while it's a cold day you feel warm and cozy.

Wearing a warm coat,

A hood over your head and a scarf snug around your neck protecting you from the wind.

You begin to walk along the path,

Confident that this path will take you where you need to be.

The path meanders gently down the mountain and you begin to effortlessly make your way down.

You wear a backpack and it's light and easy to carry.

You notice the light is fading,

The Sun is beginning to be hidden behind some grey clouds.

And as it gets darker you begin to hear the sounds of a storm.

The clouds are rolling across the sky.

Ahead of you,

You notice a little cabin sitting by the side of a blue mountain lake.

There's a light flickering in the window.

It beckons you.

You reach the front door and make your way inside this cozy cabin.

There is a comfy chair next to a warm fire.

The fire flickers,

A comforting orange glow.

You remove your pack and your coat and you settle into the comfortable chair,

Sinking into the seat,

Noticing the chair almost hugs you.

You notice that you can hear the sound of the lake water lapping the side of the cabin.

And as you sit there,

You begin to feel a sense of peace,

A sense of calm.

The water is lapping so gently.

Your breathing is calmed by the sound of the water.

Any thoughts that arise,

You gently place in your backpack that's next to your chair,

Knowing that you would deal with them after you've had this time in your cozy cabin.

You feel a wave of calm as you breathe in.

You feel tension leave as you breathe out.

Breathing in calm.

Breathing out tension.

Hearing the water gently lapping,

Soothing you,

Calming you as you breathe in.

Allowing any thoughts,

Tension to leave you with the breath.

Any stray thoughts pop in your backpack as you continue to breathe in the calm and breathe out the tension.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

Allowing the movement of the water.

Allowing the movement of your breath to gently guide you into slumber.

Giving you the rest that you deserve.

Rest to support and nurture you.

Body and breath in perfect harmony.

Breathing in calm.

Breathing out tension.

Time to restore.

Time to rest.

Rest.

Time to sleep.

Sleep well.
