Welcome to this space meditation.
This meditation will help you appreciate some extra space.
Space in your breath,
In your muscles,
And in your mind.
Let's start by finding a comfortable seat or lying down on your back.
As you get settled in,
Start to do a body scan.
Noticing your body,
Your breath,
Any tightness,
Any heaviness.
Try to bring some awareness there.
Try to create some space.
Let's start with creating some physical space.
Unclench your jaw,
Relax your tongue from the roof of your mouth.
Create space behind your eyes and in between your eyebrows.
Feel the freedom,
Feel the space.
Take a deep inhale and exhale through your mouth.
Do that one more time.
Deep inhale and exhale through your mouth.
Now begin to breathe normally,
But pay attention to the space between your breaths.
Notice when your inhale turns to an exhale.
Can you find that precise point,
That specific moment?
Can you find that space between your inhales and exhales?
Begin to meditate on that space.
If you find your mind wandering,
Just gently notice,
Acknowledge that your mind is wandering and come back to the breath.
Space can be a beautiful thing.
That feeling of expanding into a limitless environment without borders or confines can be quite freeing.
Feel that freedom in the body,
The breath,
And the mind.
Too often,
Especially in the winter,
We can contract.
Imagine yourself visually taking up space,
Expanding your chest with every in-breath,
Relaxing into the space you've created with every out-breath.
Make a promise to yourself to find ways to create space physically and mentally.
Start to move your fingers and toes and start to take up more space physically.
And when you're ready,
Slowly,
Gently open your eyes.
Namaste.
