As we prepare for a three-minute meditation on generosity,
Let's first get comfortable.
Settle in,
Sitting or lying down,
Feeling your body supported by the surface under you.
Let's take in a long deep breath and hold it for a second or two,
If you are able to.
Then let it go,
Feeling any tensions of the day leaving your body.
Close your eyes,
Or if you prefer,
Have them slightly open,
Softly looking a step or two ahead of you.
Nothing else to think about,
Nothing else to do.
Just listen to my voice and relax as we consider generosity.
Does being generous need to involve money?
While a money donation to help someone in need is being generous,
There are so many other ways you may also practice generosity without money.
Doing something nice for another,
An act of kindness,
Is being generous.
Offering your time to help another person is practicing generosity too.
Or imagine your brother or sister accidentally dropping a glass of milk from the table or counter and you decide no fuss involved to help with the cleanup.
That's being generous with your time and without judgment.
Sometimes just being next to a person,
If only to keep them company,
Or to listen patiently while they are explaining their feelings,
Is also being generous.
There are so many ways to practice generosity.
Can you remember a way you have been generous already?
Or how you would like to be generous soon?
Can you remember a time someone else was generous to you?
With receiving generosity in mind,
Let's get ready for a three-minute meditation.
A pause to focus on how receiving someone's generosity makes you feel.
I will watch the time as the background music plays and a soft bell will ring at the end of three minutes,
Starting now.
Three minutes.
Isn't receiving generosity wonderful?
Congratulations on completing this meditation.
You have been meditating with hundreds and maybe thousands around the world who also meditate,
And many of them daily.
How about a challenge that makes everyone feel wonderful?
Sometime today or tomorrow,
Find a way to be generous to another person without money being involved.
As you are being generous with your time for another person,
Consider how it makes both of you feel.
I invite you to repeat and share this meditation or some of the others in this series.
By sharing,
We can work together to make the world a better place in our mindful thoughts and in our interactions with the world.
Thank you for being here today.
Be well,
My friend.
