Hello and welcome to this Insight Timer podcast.
I am Andy Brine and within this recording,
I'm going to be speaking with you about the shamanic principles for living and what it means to walk the Red Road.
Now shamans always used to speak about the Red Road which is where you walk your path with greater meaning and purpose.
As you connect with great spirit and your ancestors,
As you connect with all the living beings in the knowing that we are all connected,
We are all brothers and sisters who walk this path.
And to walk the Red Road,
You connect with the beauty of life and the sacredness of your path.
As you become at one with yourself and you live with that greater purpose and meaning in each and every day.
Shamans would also speak about the Black Road which is whereby you walk the path that's already been paved before you,
Much like our Western world where we've been taught to live and be a certain way which causes us to feel disconnected from ourself and the world around us often causes us to turn to substances like drugs and alcohol so that we can anesthetize that pain at which we feel within.
So to walk the Red Road is to know the sacredness of your path and connect with your soul as you awaken to the beauty and divinity of who you are.
Now I'm going to share with you the shamanic principles for living which come from the Abidwe tribe in North America.
As they pass their message and teachings on to the next generation,
These principles from my perspective can be used as a guideline for all of our lives as we live in alignment with our soul's calling and provide greater service to others and they are known as the Seven Abidwe Teachings.
So let me share them with you now.
The first principle is respect which is learned from the buffalo and it is said that to know respect is to really know how to give.
Buffalo giving of themselves so that other people can survive.
To know and recognize how important respect is.
From a shamanic perspective the buffalo would give their body the meat to feed the tribe,
The skin to provide them with warmth through winter and the bones used in ceremony and to create numerous shamanic tools.
Buffaloes would provide them with all of their earthly needs which is why they associate them to respect.
Now the second principle is love which is symbolized by the eagle.
It has always been understood that the essence and spirit in each of us carries the energy and spirit of love.
We were created through the unconditional love of great spirit.
The three most powerful words that can be said are I love you and the moment you begin to say that something happens inside of you.
The spirit inside of your heart or love represents life.
Now the third shamanic principle is courage and bear brings courage.
You have got to have courage to do the right thing.
There are many ways to do the wrong thing but only one way to do the right thing that is expressed in the heart.
This takes a lot of courage.
Help me to have courage to do the right thing.
Now the fourth principle is honesty which is expressed through Bigfoot.
Honesty meant that you learned to speak from your heart.
Learn to speak from your heart and get out of your head.
Your mind has many ways of going to lead you into the opposite direction of what your heart is trying to express.
To be honest is to be true to your word.
Sabe was always there to offer inspiration and being honest.
Now the fifth principle is wisdom which is represented by the beaver.
It is said that to know wisdom is to know that you have a gift.
Beaver teaches us too if we want to build a better life then we have to use the gifts we have.
To know wisdom is to once know your gift and to use that to serve other people,
To serve your family and your community.
Now the sixth principle is humility which is taught by the wolf.
The wolf was there to remind us to live a humble life.
To live a humble life is to acknowledge that there is a higher power of spirit.
When you walk down a trail and the wolf is walking the same path the first thing the wolf is going to do is stop and bow its head.
Not because he is scared of you but because he is humbled by the presence of the human being.
To know humbleness is to think of your fellow human being before you think of yourself.
Finally the seventh principle is truth.
Turtle brings truth.
We cannot live until we are able to live the teachings as they have been passed on to us.
The turtle is leaving us a trail to follow.
The turtle is carrying the teachings of respect,
Love,
Courage,
Honesty,
Wisdom and humility and connecting us with the richness in the knowledge and wisdom that we all have.
So I hope you found these shamanic principles for living valuable and insightful.
Now what I wanted to do was share with you a red road poem that I came across online as you think about walking your red road.
So let me share that with you now.
Long road winding began in the stars spilled onto mountain tops was carried in the snow to the streams to the rivers to the oceans.
It covers Canada,
Alaska,
America,
Mexico to Guatemala and keeps winding around the indigenous.
The red road is a circle of people standing hand in hand.
People in this world.
People between people in the spirit world.
Star people,
Animal people,
Stone people,
River people,
Tree people.
The sacred hoop.
To walk the red road is to know sacrifice and suffering.
It is to understand humility.
It is the ability to stand naked before God in all things for your wrongdoings or your lack of strength or your uncompassionate way or your arrogance.
Because to walk the red road you always know you can do better and you know when you do good things it is through the creator and you are grateful.
To walk the red road is to know that you stand on equal ground with all things.
It is to know that because you were born human it gives you superiority over nothing.
It is to know that every creation carries a spirit and the rivers know more than you do.
The mountains know more than you do.
The stone people know more than you do.
The trees know more than you do.
The wind is wiser than you are and animal people carry great wisdom and you can learn from every one of them because they have something you don't.
They are void of evil thoughts.
They wish vengeance on no one.
They seek justice.
To walk the red road you have God-given rights.
You have the right to prayer.
You have the right to dance.
You have the right to think.
You have the right to protect.
You Have the right to know mother and you have the right to dream.
You have the right to vision and you have the right to teach.
You have the right to learn and you have the right to grieve.
You have the right to happiness and you have the right to fix the wrongs.
You have the right to truth and you have the right to the spirit world.
To walk the red road is to know your ancestors,
To call on them for assistance.
It is to know there is good medicine and there is bad medicine.
It is to know that evil exists but is cowardly as it often is in disguise.
It is to know that there are evil spirits who are in contrast watch for ways to gain strength for themselves at expense of you.
To walk the red road you have less fear of being wrong because you know that life is a journey,
A continuous circle,
A sacred hoop.
Mistakes will be made and mistakes can be corrected.
If you will be humble or you cannot be humble you will never know when you have made a mistake.
If you walk the red road you know that every sorrow leads to a better understanding and every horror cannot be explained but can always offer growth.
To walk the red road is to look for beauty in all things.
To walk the red road is to know that you will one day cross to the spirit world and you will not be afraid.
And this is from Native American wisdom.
So I hope you found this podcast to be valuable and insightful as you connect with the shamanic principles for living and you embrace your own red road.
