Like adults, children need to learn to relax to maximise their health and wellbeing. This series of 12 minute tracks is designed to teach children different types of relaxation. Each track has a familiar beginning and ending to create quicker relaxation habits. This Muscle Relaxation practice comprises a gentle body scan designed to help you to feel completely comfortable, supported, relaxed and calm. Allow your eyes to gently close as you release any uncomfortable or unwanted feelings. The more your child listens and allows the relaxation to happen, the more he/she will be able to recreate the relaxation when needed.

Hello,

This is Andrew.

It's time to do a little relaxing.

And all you need to do is sit down or lie down and make sure that you're comfortable.

Do that now.

Make yourself as comfortable as you can.

Good.

Before we start relaxing,

I want you to gently close your eyes.

Just allow your eyes to close as if you're sleeping at night.

Now,

Let's do some relaxation.

All you need to do is listen and imagine and pretend and enjoy.

How do your feet feel?

Are they warm?

Are they comfortable?

Can you pretend that your feet are becoming more comfortable?

Can you imagine your feet becoming soft?

Just let your feet become more comfortable.

Let your feet become softer and softer.

How do your legs feel?

Are they warm?

Are they comfortable?

Can you pretend that your legs are becoming more comfortable?

Can you imagine your legs becoming soft?

Just let your legs become more comfortable.

Let your legs become softer and softer.

You're doing wonderfully.

How do your hands and fingers feel?

Are they warm?

Are they comfortable?

Can you pretend that your hands and fingers are becoming more comfortable?

Can you imagine your hands and fingers becoming soft?

Just let your hands and fingers become more comfortable.

Let your hands and fingers become softer and softer.

That's right.

How do your arms feel?

Are they warm?

Are they comfortable?

Can you pretend that your arms are becoming more comfortable?

Can you imagine your arms becoming soft?

Just let your arms become more comfortable.

Let your arms become softer and softer.

How do your feet and legs feel now?

How do your hands and arms feel now?

How does your body feel?

Is it warm?

Is it comfortable?

Can you pretend that your whole body is becoming more comfortable?

Can you imagine your whole body becoming soft?

Just let every part of you become more comfortable.

Let every part of you become softer and softer.

How does your whole body feel now?

Isn't relaxation easy when you just imagine and pretend that it is happening?

I want to tell you something wonderful.

Every time you practice this relaxation by listening to me,

As I ask you to pretend and imagine and enjoy,

The relaxation gets easier and easier.

In fact,

There may soon be a time when you don't even have to listen to me at all.

Isn't it nice to know that you can be this relaxed any time you wish?

Isn't it nice to know that relaxing is as easy as this?

And because you have allowed yourself to relax,

Afterwards you are feeling happier.

You are feeling healthier.

You are feeling calmer.

You are feeling better.

You have more energy during the day.

You have more concentration during the day.

You are sleeping deeper at night.

And so,

In a few moments,

It's time to wake.

It's time to stretch and open your eyes.

And in a few moments,

When you do finish this relaxation time,

You'll find that you are a little more relaxed for the rest of the day.

So give your fingers a little wiggle.

Give your toes a little wiggle.

Gently stretch your legs.

Gently stretch your arms.

Take a gentle deep breath and open your eyes.

Open your eyes.

You're wide awake.

Wide awake and relaxed.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Two of my 4th grade special needs students came in fired up after lunch/recess. This is nothing new, but what was new was that both asked if they could do another one of the โ€œre-focus thingsโ€ ๐Ÿ˜† like they did yesterday. I told them that Andrew informed me yesterday that there were some others in the series. This is the one they choose today. They LOVED it! I especially loved how Andrew told them that they could do this their selves when they needed to. We had a great discussion on what that looked like after they finished. What a great effect this has had on the end of our crazy Super Snow Moon week!
