Declutter Your Life
Many of us allow possessions to grow and gather and we often have difficulty getting rid of unused, unneeded items that could be better used elsewhere. When we declutter, we not only create space in our homes, offices, and lives, but we change the way we look at the important, relevant, useful items we are left with. This recording will guide you down into a deep state of relaxation and offer positive suggestions for starting decluttering in a mindful, positive manner.
Transcript
Take some time to settle down.
You can sit or lie down as long as you're comfortable.
Do that now.
Make sure you're comfortable.
Take a gentle deep breath in,
And as you breathe out,
Close your eyes.
Allow your eyes to close,
And you can allow your eyes to remain comfortably closed throughout this entire recording,
Knowing that you can open them at any time if you wish.
In a moment,
I'm going to guide you down into relaxation.
The secret to relaxation is simply not to try.
Just allow whatever is happening to happen,
And enjoy the experience.
And as you settle down into relaxation,
You can slowly begin to turn your attention to your breathing.
Notice the flow of your breath in and out.
In and out.
You may notice a difference in temperature between the in-breath and the out-breath.
In and down.
Up and out.
In and down.
Up and out.
Place one hand gently on your chest,
And one hand gently on your stomach,
Over the belly button.
Begin to breathe a little deeper now.
Just a little deeper.
And as you inhale,
Expand your stomach out a little.
Just a little.
And as you breathe out,
Let your stomach move back in.
Don't try.
Just allow.
As you inhale,
Expand your stomach out a little.
Just a little.
As you breathe out,
Let your stomach move back in.
And notice how as you breathe out,
You relax a little.
You deepen a little.
You sink down a little more.
Spend a few moments allowing each out-breath to relax you further.
Every out-breath relaxing you.
Every out-breath taking you deeper.
Imagine every out-breath is guiding you down into relaxation.
The music.
Your breathing.
And the sound of my voice helping you to drift deeper.
If it feels comfortable and natural,
Place the tip of your tongue onto the roof of your mouth,
Just behind the teeth,
And allow the flow of your breathing to continue.
Be gentle with yourself.
Don't try.
Just allow.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your legs and feet are relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your legs and feet are getting heavier.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your arms and hands are relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your arms and hands are becoming heavier.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your upper body is relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your upper body is getting heavier.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your neck and shoulders are relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your neck and shoulders are becoming heavier.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your entire body is relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your entire body is becoming heavier.
Imagine that with every out-breath,
Your face is relaxing.
With every out-breath,
Your face is softening.
And a few moments are loving your breathing to take you a little deeper down relaxed.
As your breathing continues to slow,
You are now aware of how easy this process is and how relaxed you are becoming.
The deeper you go,
The deeper you choose to go.
And the deeper you choose to go,
The deeper you go.
Any unnecessary,
Unneeded discomfort is simply melting away.
Leaving your body.
And as your body continues to relax at its own pace,
So your mind is becoming more and more aware of the sound of my voice.
The sound of my voice that stays with you now.
No matter where you drift.
No matter where you go.
If you haven't already,
You can move your hands into a more comfortable position and allow your breathing to find its own depth and rhythm.
Allow your hands to move into a comfortable position and allow your breathing to find its own depth and rhythm.
In a moment,
I'm going to count down from 10 to 1.
I would like you to time your exhalation to coincide with the countdown.
But don't be concerned if the timing is slightly off.
It's the procedure that counts.
So ready.
Take a gentle deep breath in.
And turn.
Exhale.
Sinking deeper and deeper.
Take a gentle deep breath in.
And nine.
Exhale.
Heavier and heavier.
Take a gentle deep breath in.
And eight.
Exhale.
Slower and slower.
Take a gentle deep breath in.
And seven.
Exhale.
Deep breath in.
And deep.
Down relax.
Take a gentle deep breath in.
And six.
Exhale.
Sinking down now.
Another gentle deep breath in.
And five.
Exhale.
Deeper and deeper.
A gentle deep breath in.
And four.
Exhale.
Allowing it to happen.
A gentle deep breath in.
And three.
Exhale.
Deep breath in.
Down relaxed.
A gentle deep breath in.
And two.
Exhale.
Heavier and heavier.
And one more gentle deep breath in.
And one.
Exhale.
All the way down.
Deep,
Down relaxed.
As you allow your breathing to find its own depth and rhythm.
And each exhalation takes you deeper and deeper.
As I talk now to your unconscious mind about a matter of importance.
Importance is not what you think it is.
It is what you believe it is.
It is what you believe it is.
It is what you believe it is.
It is what you believe it is.
It is what you believe it is.
I'd like you to drift back in time.
Drift back in time.
Back in time to remember when you had a clean,
Clutter-free,
Organized home.
Can you remember how that felt?
Can you remember how it looked?
Can you remember how much space you seemed to have?
If you can't remember a time,
Can you imagine it?
Can you imagine how that would feel?
Can you imagine how it would look?
Can you imagine what it would be like to have more space?
For many of us,
The clutter slowly builds up over a period of time.
Little bits here and there.
Items we think we're going to need again.
Things that we should throw out,
But never do.
Things that we should give to charity,
But never do.
Things that we should pass on to others,
But never do.
And as the days go by and turn to weeks,
And the weeks go by and turn to months,
And the months go by and turn to years,
We don't notice the buildup of this clutter.
We become used to having so many things in our house,
And we think this is the norm.
Occasionally,
However,
We get a glimpse of how things really are.
How difficult it is to find things at times.
How the energy in the house feels stagnant and stale.
How,
When everything is kept and kept,
Nothing is special.
The important things,
The really sentimental things are lost.
Lost amongst everything else.
In the past,
You have felt uncomfortable with the clutter.
But the task of decluttering,
Of tidying up,
Has seemed too huge.
Too overwhelming.
You didn't know where to begin.
So I'm speaking directly to your unconscious mind now.
Talking directly to the logical part of you that knows just what to do,
And just how to do it.
You will split your decluttering into small areas,
And you will concentrate on one small area and only in this small area,
You will create six sections.
Things to throw out,
Things to recycle,
Things to give to charity,
Things to sell,
Things to give to friends and family,
Things to keep,
The truly important,
Special,
Useful things.
Your unconscious mind is helping with this.
It's easy now to see the true nature of what you want to keep.
It's easy and quick now deciding on what section each thing goes into.
The things to throw out,
The things to recycle,
The things that you choose to give to charity,
The things that you can sell and make a bit of money,
The things that you can give to friends and family,
And of course the things to keep,
The truly important,
Special,
Useful things.
Your unconscious mind is helping with this.
It's so easy now to see the true nature of what you want to keep.
It's easy and quick now deciding what section each thing goes into.
And curiously,
Strangely,
You begin to find that this process is fun,
Enjoyable.
You take a deep breath and you just get on with it.
And when you finish that small area,
And only in that small area,
You throw out the things needing thrown out.
You recycle the things needing recycled,
Doing your bits for the environment.
You take the things for charity to the charity shop.
It's nice to think that other people will benefit from your clutter.
You sell the things that you choose to,
Creating money for you.
Money that you can spend in any positive way you choose.
You give the remaining things to friends and family,
If they want them.
And you keep the special things,
The truly important,
Special,
Useful things.
And when you return to that original small area,
Isn't it nice to notice the space you have,
The way it looks,
The freshness,
The improved flow of energy.
And isn't it nice to be able to truly look at and appreciate the special things that you've kept.
It's easy now to keep that area well organized,
Uncluttered,
Clean.
When you choose to,
You now move on to the next area,
Noticing that it's easier this time.
So much easier,
Because you know what to do and just how to do it.
And you have a little more space to sort things into their sections.
And so you're able to declutter a slightly larger area this time.
And as you do so,
It feels as if a weight is being lifted,
As if a burden is being removed.
Less things to notice,
Less clutter to worry about,
Less things to misplace and lose,
Special things to notice,
Useful things that you're able to put your hand on quickly,
Special things to treasure.
You're beginning to realize that you now know where everything is.
You can find things easily and effortlessly.
You have patience now,
Calm and relaxed determination.
Nothing can shake it.
You go on patiently day to day,
Area to area,
Noticing how good you feel as you declutter,
As you regain control.
How confident you're feeling.
How wonderful it is to get your home back.
How lovely it is to get a feeling of space and cleanliness.
How wonderful the energy feels and flows.
So this is easy now.
Almost ridiculously easy in fact.
For you are back in control.
You are always in control.
As we near the end of this recording,
You can make a choice whether to wake up or drift further down into sleep.
If you wish to wake up in a moment or two,
I'll count from one to ten and you can slowly bring yourself back to full awakened sensations.
At five,
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
At eight,
Gently open your eyes and at ten,
You'll be fully back,
Rested,
Refreshed and wide awake,
Re-energized,
Refocused.
If however you wish to fall asleep and continue sleeping,
Simply ignore me counting from one to ten and you can drift deeper down into relaxation.
So if you wish to end this session now,
Start bringing yourself back up.
One,
Two,
Three,
Waking up.
Four,
Five,
Wiggle your fingers and toes,
Waking up.
Six,
Seven,
Eight,
Open your eyes,
Open your eyes.
Nine,
Ten,
Wide awake,
Wide awake.
And if you wish to continue drifting down into sleep,
You can do so now.
Continue drifting deeper,
Drifting deeper down,
Deeper and deeper asleep,
Deeper and deeper asleep,
Drifting deeper,
Deeper asleep.

Thank you so much. I am currently sorting through my deceased parents’ and grandparents’ mementos, besides my own clutter. This was a very deep meditation I know will be of tremendous help.

I found this very relaxing and then activating, when the attention changed to dealing with clutter. When it comes to the guilt, Andrew dows not even go there. Instead he gives a method that makes eating Moby Dick easier. One hite at a time, thoroughly chewed. I will know later today if I am successful in making these principles to work for me. Very well done; thank you.
