Welcome to meditation number three of the 30-day challenge.
Before we get going let's just do a recap on what we've done so far.
The first week we led you into single-minded focus so you can begin to find some space within and dumb down the thoughts a little bit.
We continued on in the same vein in the second week,
A little bit shorter in terms of focus on the body,
We're a bit quicker,
And then I asked you to find some space within and you began to immerse yourself in some space and you found it by using your breath and you recall that at the end of the meditation last week we focused on gratitude,
Love and appreciation and that emotion which is associated with a neurochemical or series of chemicals throughout the body which are most beneficial for health,
Would you believe it?
Our cells respond best,
Even better than they respond to food in terms of a growth response to the emotion of love,
Appreciation,
Gratitude and so what we did at the end of our meditation last week was just treat ourselves a little by flooding the body with those fantastic feelings of love and gratitude.
So during this next meditation we're going to spend more time working into a sense of love and appreciation,
We're also going to spend some more time in that space that you discovered and you're going to get more comfortable just sitting in the space,
Just sitting with the silence and allowing it to wash over you,
All the while having no thoughts or if you do have thoughts as we often do,
Allowing them to slide by just like clouds in the sky.
You'll also notice during this meditation that there's some more noise in the background,
There's a beat and it's known as a binaural beat,
We are using the binaural beat as a means of brainwave entrainment.
So this beat which is coming at a frequency of 7.
5 Hertz,
It's going to help your brainwaves drop down to a theta level.
Now your brainwaves normally when you are thinking and walking around engaging in rational activity are at a beta level,
As you get relaxed and about to drop off to sleep they drop down to an alpha level and then the next level down is theta and 7.
5 Hertz is in the theta range.
Now there's been a lot of research done on binaural beats,
It's been used a lot in hypnosis,
I will invite you to do your own research rather than me doing an expose on the benefits or otherwise of binaural beats.
The proof however will be in the pudding,
Some people will like it,
Some people won't.
I happen to love them and helps me get in a meditative state very quickly.
So what I've done this week is I've done two meditations,
It's the same meditation just one has the binaural beats in it and one doesn't.
So I would recommend that you try the binaural beat meditation to begin with,
See if that helps you drop into a deeper meditative state very quickly.
You may or may not like it,
If you do like it keep on with it,
If you don't use the other meditation.
One last thing about binaural beats is they only work with earphones,
You have to wear earphones because the beat is actually created by giving slightly different sounds through either channel on the stereo and it won't work if you're just listening from the speakers of your computer or just from the iPod playing,
Generally it needs to be earphones.
One final thing to do before we get started is to set you up for a visualization that we're going to do during the meditation and the visualization is one around gratitude,
Appreciation,
Love and we're going to direct that to two places,
One we're going to direct it to the earth,
This is a grounding process,
The earth is one large organism and we are part of it and by feeling gratitude in our hearts and sending it down to the center of the earth you will feel a connection,
You'll feel a grounding,
A sort of a steadiness as it were.
I have led a lot of people through this process and it's amazing how many people say they get these great overwhelming feeling of heat and warmth and love coming back from the center of the earth,
Now you may or may not get any of those things but I'll ask you to do it anyway and as we go on a bit in the process I'm going to get you to again feel some love and appreciation,
Gratitude in your heart and to then send it outwards to whoever you have in your mind as the source of life,
Some people will say God,
Some people will say a creator,
Some people say the source,
Universe,
Buddha,
Krishna,
Muhammad whatever it doesn't really matter,
You pick your symbol for the source of life whatever that might be and some people will send it to the Sun.
So when I talk about your God or creator you just word processing whatever word works for you.
In order to trigger that gratitude I'll get you to do two things,
Firstly I'm going to get you to imagine a place in nature that you have a connection with.
So what's important now is just to get into your mind where is that place everyone normally has one,
It might be a beach,
A favorite park you walk in,
Maybe it's a mountaintop you once visited,
You went overseas and you know stood in a fantastic place but somewhere where you feel a real connection,
Presence with and really lifted your heart.
The second thing I'll ask you to do is just to reflect on your life and to be grateful for it.
No matter how bad things might seem or what challenges we've got there's much to celebrate about life.
Let me affect that you can get up every day and have a drink of water,
Fill the Sun on your face,
Fill the soil in your toes,
Go to the beach,
Eat your favorite food,
See your friends,
Get a cuddle,
Whatever it is for you,
Play a game of golf,
Go to a movie,
But these are all things that can only happen because of life.
Often we don't focus on those things but for the purpose of this meditation I'm going to ask you to bring all of those things to mind,
All of those things that you're grateful for and they're the things that are going to serve as a trigger for you to feel gratitude that you're going to send outward to that greater force outside of yourself.
So if you need a little time to think of either of those things do that now.
It should only take you a few seconds,
Maybe a minute to get those things in your mind and once you're ready go to the meditation and enjoy it.
I'll talk to you next week.
Bye now.
